Painted all my demo derby cars this way. I used good medium rate auto paint enamel reducer in the summer instead of what rustoleum says to use and it would be dry to touch in a couple of hours. If you use mineral spirits like the can says you will be waiting a week or more for the paint to dry. The paint always outlasted the cars.

The dangerous product in the hardener is methyl di isocyanate or any isocyanate sometimes called MDI . It goes through skin eyes and n95 p95 respirator. You have a life time exposure threshold with isocyanate once you reach it you will react to even small exposure like sanding a clear coat . The symptoms can be athsma , permanent lung damage , wheezing , cough which may be permanent even death and it in 2 part bed liners construction glues, canned expanding foams insulating sprays sold every hardware building and dept store . I only say this because spaying enamels like you are using is fairly safe unless you get bad advise to add a hardener which would be containing isocyanate most contain it. Isocyanate can’t be washed of clothes floors or skin . Nice work using the paint your using cheap to 👍👍👍 results a great let it dry good several weeks then wax . I have a 1992 Chevy tracker in mint condition painted in 2002 in white machinery / marine enamel which contains polyurethane but requires no hardener . In the 1980's I had a used appliance business, and I would often paint appliances as part of that business. I found that naphtha works well for reducing paint, and it dries quickly. I found that paint thinner was a bit oily and dried very slowly. Using naphtha, I could paint an appliance in the morning, and by the afternoon it was dry enough to sell. I also see that Rustoleum now has an enamel reducer. I like your "7 rule". I had a viscosity cup that worked great, but now they seem difficult to find. Rustoleum also has clear now.

You should make a follow up video on how the truck looks outside and all put back together. Sometimes when you have multiple colors that you are painting over like black, red and white, what you end up with out in the daylight is grey, pink and white because the other base colors bleed through.

    • @MADCRE8TIVE

Enjoyed your video. My first paint job was with small compressor connected to my buddies trucks dual wheels and small water tank for air capacity and a restored paint gun. it worked. For my second paint job on a van I sprayed the entire van with a cheep stone guard and then sprayed over it. It looked great like a vinyl finish . My third was on a old step van and I was in a hurry so I used a roller - it did come out good. All of these were outside jobs. Chasing the sun to keep the van warm in the cold weather and picking flies and mosquitoes when it was hot. Would like to know where in Canada you (Provence) are . Your group looks like my group but mine are grayer.

I was thinking to sand with grinder cleaning up rust then applying rust preventive material. Use piece of fiberglass on rear a small area let harden then sand that then apply bit of bondo on those surface areas feather in edges as i sand making sure that i have no low n high spots...etc apply primer wet sand that then paint ?

Not bad for a scuff and shoot. Now that's its cured I wouldnt worry about clear youd had to wet sand. Just throw some synthetic wax on it to make it look cleared on a budget. Cheaper then proper cut and buff and still looks ama,ing I'll try to find the video of the guy who used Walmart dollar cans then used wax and keeps it polished. You want to wait 3 to 4 weeks to wax it let it finish off gassing. The only other thing I cant recommend as a painter is 12 Inchrs back with hvlp that's way to far you have to get close with hvlp to avoid orange peel. Like 4-8 inches is the usual specs. Some guns will max 10 but pinky to thumb is about perfect if your not a fast painter that can get 4 or 5 Inches without running. 12 inches back the paint is drying before it lands and atomization of the paint isnt even anymore that far back. The old conventional siphon feed guns at 60 psi ya you stayed little further back but it dumps paint and needs high pressure and high flow. What I do to paint cars at home is I use 3 compressors in parallel on separate breakers. 3 to 1 in reverse to first separator with store bag of ice over the lines circled to lower intake air into the first filter and heavy droplets then 12 inch 3/4 brass nipple with steel wool in the ends with decissant gel beads and I wrap those blue frozen packs around it. Brass is known as the cold metal I dont use fittings for that parts just lines into the 3/4 to 1/4 reducers then it runs into a 2 inch 48 inch galvanized pipe full of more beads then into my lowes 7 gallon portable tank and I run from that. Usually only two of them run. But all 3 give me 16 cfm at 90. 65 gallons at 150 psi and completely portable can load it all up in 10 mins in my truck dont need 220v
