Thanks for the video my friend, this is going to be extremely helpful for a lot of people. Cheers mate
As per usual, you have made yet another great video! Unfortunately, no pick set or practice lock was gifted to me for Christmas, but as my birthday is today, the mail has yet to come, so I'm not sure if I'll be getting some or not, but considering not many know that I'm into locksport, I doubt it.
I would be thrilled if you happen to have a practice lock and a decent pick set(hopefully with some type of Ratyolk pick and tok wrenches) that you would consider selling to me, that would be an awesome birthday gift! I'd pay for shipping as well if you'd consider it.
Thanks for your great work and I hope you have an awesome 2020!

As I get more into prepping, I have found myself wanting to learn lock picking. I am thankful to have found your channel. I do have a question for you: Are you familiar with the grimworkshop tool line? They have some rather innovative solutions for carrying various types of tools in small, easy to conceal packages. I am curious to know what your opinion is of their lock picking tools as I am considering adding them to my SHTF gear.

Ok
Master locks. So bad they're good for starter lock picks... I think they should start rebranding themselves as lockpicking beginner locks.
Absolutely!
Nice roast
To be fair I only bother locking my house locks now because they prevent the disoriented methheads up the street from getting in and to make sure for that extra ten years if someone does break in. I've seen the so-called best of the best locks picked in less than ten seconds. I have no faith in any lock anymore. It's the sight of a lock that keeps most people out and to that end I don't see the point in shelling out for anything other than the cheap locks. They all seem to provide the same protection.
Also bolt cutters also work quite well to get through them
I remember opening a master lock with a shim i made in less than ten minutes (opened hundreds of locks with the same one) with the metal end of a pencil, took less than 3 seconds to open.
Should also be noted that when single-pin picking, one pin will bind at a time because when these cores were manufactured, the holes that house the pin stacks aren’t in a perfectly-straight line. They’re slightly misaligned, making one pin to be the first to bind. Then the next pin will bind and so forth. More tension is helpful because it provides better feedback to a skilled picker. A very stiff tension tool is also helpful to provide the picker with maximum feedback. Think of a shock absorber on a car. The springiness dampens feedback. You want the opposite of feedback dampening when picking single pins. Slow down. Pay attention to what you feel and hear. Happy picking🤗
I was thinking there must be some play in the mechanism so that the first pin stays lined up after you have picked it and you move onto your next pin. Am I right in thinking that pins need to feel the pressure from the tension tool before they will stay in position after being lined up (picked).
Thank you
@@SC-rb2jrKinda late but if I understood correctly, you’re right. This is what makes the order in which pins click when you pick them (so you won’t necessarily be able to make the first pin click first every time).
Guess who bought herself a lockpick set for Christmas and just happened to find this video!!! I bought a much smaller pick sets, but I already picked open a couple basic master locks!! This is super helpful though!! This is basically my new fidget toy!!!

I was indeed gifted a set very close to this. At the 9:59 mark I was able to manipulate my clear lock with every single tool, even the broken key extractor. Within 30 minutes I was able to open a padlock, and my own front door. Showing the skill put to real world tests....and passing! Thank you so much for taking your time to produce this content. I feel this is an invaluable skill to have. Even if I mainly use it just to impress friends. Knowledge is something that cannot be taken away.

Have you change your lock yet? I'm guessing you had.

Was learning to pick locks to open my locker at work cos i lost my key, told my manager and he just shrugged. Asked if i can pick the lock, he said sure in a doubtful voice and that made the look on his face all the more satisfying when i stood there with my locker open. This is by far the best visual explanation of how the inside of the lock works. The large mock-up cutaway lock and key did it. At last, the " pins" barrel mechanism now makes sense. Thank you for that.
Early on I got that exact set shown at the start of the video. It's from Banggood, is currently listed at US$10.59. They are well made (for the price of course) and have held up well. One tip: The metal handles were hard on my fingers so I got some heatshrink tubing, slipped it over the handles and heated it to fit snugly.
Heat shrink tubing is a great hack!

Came here after watching a hundred or so LPL videos, now can't help but hear "we'll use this wiper insert as a turning tool", "number XX is binding", and "and we have it open. Okay folks..." during appropriate times in this video. 😆
Yes, LPL has an iconic voice!
Amazing video. One note: The tension tool should almost always be placed inside of the top of the keyway, not the bottom. It'll give you more room to work. Also the city rake tool works better when rocked up and down, instead of back and forth.
OH good tip, thank you. I watch a lot of LPL and always wondered why the "top of the keyway tension" was so prevalent as it seems to me like that'd get in the way more than the bottom.
This is the tip I’ve been missing! I finally got my cut away lock open, thank you!
I instantly was able to pick my lock with this tip with no sucess without it. Thank you so so much
When I was in my 20s, I used to carry a pick set all the time. Used them for my car, any locks around the house or at work (for things I was suppose to have access to), and the house itself (I didn’t carry my house keys). However, they were made from hacksaw blades and my father eventually told me to cut out using them on the door locks as they were hard enough they were starting to wear the pins.
Got my beginner kit yesterday and got my first Master lock open today. Thanks for all the advice!
Not to forget: if a lock is bad enough, master locks for example:
everything is a raking tool!
Because there is no point in doing anything also rake 2-15 seconds and it's open. Amazon reviews for those are a joke.
People with no clue praise the companies marketing. Pickers do everything from rating 1 star for security to rating 5 stars sarcastically.
What an amazing tutorial!? It just covered all the basics in 20 mins and tought me everything i need to know about locks and he even gave me inspiration to make lockpicking my hobby. Ive also subscribed to you and to lockpickinglawyer. I hooe in the future more people will find this video usefull. Cya
Thanks for watching 🙏😃👍
Mastermuaz7 This is a very enjoyable hobby. I’m away from home this weekend with one of my lock pick sets but forgot to take any of my practice locks and this video helped me feel some of the satisfaction of picking a lock open! Lock Noob gives great advice. Don’t pick a lock you depend on - I picked my front door lock and opened it but it didn’t work afterward and I thought I had ruined.it. I called my local locksmith and he said before he comes to my house to put the key in it and turn it back and that fixed it. I was too new to know that a padlock core goes back without the key but not my front door lock! My son even used his skill to open a friend’s storage shed when they lost the key.
Awesome video!! Here’s to the start of a new hobby!! I get such a rush just watching you and thinking about opening a lock myself… the satisfaction is unreal! Thank you lots ❤
When I opened my first one I was so excited 😂

I've been wanting to try lockpicking ever since I saw some random video on youtube. Seems like a useful skill.
Well, it’s certainly a fun one!
"It's really rewarding" 🤣
thank you so much. You didn't just tell us what the tools do but you even showed us how to work with them and stuff. This was actually really helpful. Thanks.
I just wanted to say thank you. I just bought a starter set with the practice locks. I found the instructions a little draconian and was watching youtube videos. You inspired me to give it a go with the city (I believe you called it) rake and I had the padlock open in less then five minutes. It was such a cool feeling when it popped and your instructions were perfect. Can't wait to learn the other tools and try different types of lock.
Glad I could help, keep on practicing!
@@LockNoob Will do. And it was the perfect start to get it so quick thanks again.
I've had a history of being locked out of my own home and recently it happened again. This is how i stumbled on to this video. I didn't want my wife and I locked out of our home with our pets inside. It was crazy how much lock smith was charging to come out to help us get into our home.
Figured i would look more into lockpicking and after this, maybe get good at it and make a side business out of it (and not charge people 400+dollars either). Thank you for this, maybe I'll get as good at lockpicking as the fictional master of unlock (Jill Valentine for Resident Evil fans out there). Seems kind of fun hobby to pick up.
I got a question though; how do you know when a lockpick will break? Is there any kind of damage to the lock and is it possible to get it out? I ask this because one day i will need to unlock my house if i forget the keys again.
I'd like to know if you ever followed up lol & have you recouped your losses if so?
Lock Noob has an entire video on why you shouldn’t pick some locks, including the ones in use on your own home.
Picks eventually fail due to metal fatigue, and it tends to be sudden. You can try getting the tip out with an extractor, but if it doesn’t cooperate, you may end up having to call a locksmith or drill out the core. See above.
I love to see the situation where you leave your house without your keys, but remeber to take your lockpicks with you "in case you get locked out".
Just a thought, put a spare key in your lockpick set and save yourself hours of misery 😂😂😂
This video was so helpful! Thank you for taking the time and effort to go into detail! 😄

@@JP-iz9cz i may have worded that awkwardly, you can own a knife but cannot posses it in public without reason, same with lock picks, you can own them but without proper reasoning you will be prosecuted for possession of a lock pick, yes you cant kill people with a lock pick but it prevents certain crimes, same as why you cannot carry a knife over 6 inch in public without reason
This is a really excellent video. I just bought a kit on a whim and the instructions make so little sense as they're obviously translated 'You need practice for many times' and '...you need to eject the lock tool up slowly till a little voice is heard', but this video helped get the principals across really well.
Also it's amazed me how easy it actually is to do this, I opened the practice padlock before I read any instructions, within about a minute, and assumed they'd just made it very easy. Immediately tried on a proper padlock and opened that within a minute too. Now I'm hooked.
