How to Install A Wheel Stud Conversion Kit

- In this video, I picked up a wheel stud kit, and decided to install them on the Mini. I’ve found them so far to be a lot more convenient than the standard lug bolts. What I did was find out what thread pitch and size my Lug Bolts were, and found a wheel stud conversion kit that was of the same specifications.
So I picked up an M14x1.25 wheel stud kit, and show you how easy it is to install them. You will most likely see these kids of conversion for German cars, where they use lug bolts as opposed to wheel studs and lug nuts. By purchasing any of the items below, it helps my channel operate and brings more awesome content your ways, at NO ADDITIONAL COST TO YOU. Thank you all for your generous support!! 🖤

Thank you! Can't wait to install my wheel studs, spacers and new wheels onto my W204 this afternoon!
Great video mate!! Well explained and easy to follow, keep them coming!!!!
I like how thorough you are and how clear your explanations are. Great job 👍🏾👍🏾
Just did this for my 1964 vw bug. German cars can be a pain but it's all worth it! Awesome video. 👌
Nice buddy!! Yeah I'm liking the conversion so far too :)
Awesome video man. Enjoy watching these. Should do more shenanigans with friends. They are funny.
I have the same gen mini that you do and I am able to figure out the upgrades that I want to do and how to do them by watching your videos! I really appreciate the videos you put up! I like you car polishing tips as well! Keep up the awesome videos man!
Glad to hear it buddy!! :) Thanks for watching!!
Excellent, as always - You're a gifted teacher.
Thanks brother!! :) I always appreciate the kind words!!
Great video, thanks for sharing!
This is without a doubt in my mind the best video on wheel stud conversion kits on CZcams 💯 amazing job
Thanks Dylan! I appreciate the feedback 😊
Thanks man, so helpful
good luck on your test man!
great video as always 👍
Thanks buddy!! :)
Great video, This is a MUST buy for me, these bolts have been a pain in my ass.
Get on it buddy ;) I just did the switch and love it so far
Thanks Milan we now the diffrence between nuts an bolts :)
Cool. Good luck on your test.
Thank you!! :) One more to go!!
Yo, you did a really good job on the camerawork.
I went the whole video staring at the hub assembly, the brake caliper, the studs, and at some point I was wondering if that assembly was on a stand or workbench somewhere. I was confused for a few seconds, because in other "wheel well videos" like suspension or brake stuff, you're used to seeing the entire wheel well.
Here, the brake is sharp, while the suspension components and inner arch are so out of focus and seem so far away, that you barely notice them. Makes this video a joy to watch.
13th person watching,nice videos man,keep up the good work!💪💪🖒
Thanks Dino :) Cheers!!
Great video one question, what is the difference between permatex red high strength and permanent? Can either be used for stud conversion?
If you got a long stud and then a long spacer wouldn't the tire be outside a little more? What do you think I need for a BMW Z4 E85 05. 12mm x 1.5?
You should make a video on how to remove the studs if you ever need to replace them.
It would be the same process... and you would just loosen it by putting the wrench in the inner nut.
Bit of heat on it and it will come back out, even with threadlock
@@10feetup agreed eventually figured out heat is required. I had to use MAPP gas for 30-40 seconds on the stud before it would come out.
how would you oprotect your rims as we now use lock bolts with a special key to unscrew. Are these also available as a lock nut.
well done mate
I did the same and it's good to go
Milan, answer me if you can, whta about security on the wheels? and when ou need to replace rotors?
Good information
Is this needed for after market wheels on any german car? I'm having a hard time finding bolts for my motegi wheels that fit my car. I know they're not conical lugs. Im thinking of doing the conversion just to be able to use regular nuts with the wheels sense my factory bolts aren't long enough to go in the threads from behind the new wheels
Good luck with your exam wicked video as always
Quick question, is that torture spec universal for anybody doing this swap or is there a specific torque spec for each car?
Nice video 💪🏽
Thanks Rudy!! :)
hey bro , I have a 95 VW cabrio (mk3) 4x100 but is just difficult to find the right kit for it .... I was wondering if u have any type of info on it ?
Hi can any one help how to recognize vw golf 5 sportline and comfortline? because i want to buy a car and seller telling me it is sportline but am not convinced.
Nice video thanx milan
Thanks man
Do you know who sells 14mm(1.5) VW stud/nuts? Has to be the ball seat nuts to fit the wheels. - thanks
Video time!!! 🔥🔥🔥
will this work with wheel adapters also? how do u remove this if later u dont want it anymore? is it a POS to remove?
say i want to put a different lug nut pattern on my car. can i buy a different bolt pattern to install on my car to fit a different pattern? thanks
What happen to the accord I remember you saying something about it ?
Very good tutorial. Oh, did you spill your coffee in the wheel arch? 😉 🤣
I Need help Haha...The M12x1.5 also fit into a mini r56 S
where do i get a conversion kit for a 93 festiva?
Where did you get those jacks stands?
Perfectly done brotha. Hex bit size ?? Usually
Really good video. Very informative, described and explained really well. What length Stud did you use?
I believe the kit I got was the 90mm extended studs. I went with the largest studs available so I wouldn't ever have to run into spacers issues
I wanted to know where did you get the conversion kit?
can i use this set on my f80 m3?
Great Video! I have the same BBS RK on my mini. I didn't see you use a hub ring unless your wheels have the correct hub ring for the mini?
With that setup, was there vibration on the steering wheel above a certain speed?
Hey Josh, I did not install hub centric rings here at the time since the wheels were new to me, however yes, without the hub rings you will get a vibration. I would 100% recommend getting them for any aftermarket wheel setup 👍
Might do the switch for my mini as well...
Leinad Death I approve this mod 👍
Good stuff. I hate those lug bolts. Thank god my car uses normal studs + lug nuts.
How do you know the torque spec for the studs? Also if I want to remove them later, do I use medium length threadlocker?
Nope just heat them with a torch. the loctice will disintegrate.
it would be a big thank you
Wow another Milen Castrati video!
Thank you for showing how to do this without using the 6mm hex bit. The manufacturer always says to use 90ft lbs with a hex bit but they always break or strip out. So your method of using 110 ftlbs of torque is a better install.
Yo bro sending love all the way from London can you make a few more golf videos
mk3 Ftw!
Great video. Quick question. I’m guessing my Mini (2010 R56 JCW) is the same spec as yours and you have linked to both “M12x1.5” and “M14x1.25”. You mentioned that it comes as a set of 20 (4x5 lug bolt/nut) and wanted to make sure what R56 uses. I’m currently using 5mm spacers but I’m swapping to a new wheels that allows me to get rid of the spacers. Is M14x1.25 the appropriate one? Thank you. Appreciate your help.
That is correct, these MINIs run larger M14 x 1.25 bolts. You will need that size stud kit to work 👍
Did you get the 75mm or 90mm studs?
Hey man you'll to be going to the track soon you might be forgetting a very important step , your vehicles might have oil cooling systems but why not upgrade it just a suggestion 😁
#1000! Great video!
Thanks so much!
Can you give specs on your camera gear ?
Your videos look great
How do I know which size I need?
How long are those studs?
Awesome dude! Tnks! Got me some enkies 17" rims. Minor scratches. Painted them bronze metallic .Almost complete and ready to install some cooper tires zeon rs3-G1. Have couples of questions? Are spacer safe? Which one do u recommend to give it the flush look? I got a 2008 s clubman.
They are safe, as long as you torque them properly!! What are the wheel specs of your current 17" Enkei's? Also, what size tires do you have?
Sorry took long busy with work. Does the m14×1.25 stubs also fit the 2008 s clubman?
I got the rims installed. I needed a O ring so the tired don't vibrate. They fit great! I'm gonna do the studs now. What is the torque specs for the studs on mini coopers 2nd gen?
Can I Somehow do this to change the Stud Size? I want to go from 14x1.50mm to 12x1.50mm
Not easily. It would be simpler to go from m12x1.5, but not the other way around since the hole you want is smaller.
Hi u prob won't see this but I just wanted to say ur my favorite CZcams and I have been subscribed for almost three quarters of a year
So uea
Yea*
Thanks for the loyalty :) Of course I see them!! Basically every comment I at least see
milanmastracci yay
THX
Would this basically be the same procedure for my 05 Jetta GLI?
Yes :)
how will you know which Stud will fit your car?
For a wheel to be securely locked into place. How many turns should the lug nut turn?
BAD HILUX as much times until it cant turn no more
Christian Perez I asked since I only get 8 turns and I'm wondering if that's even safe
I would think so. Are you using a torque wrench? Or just tightening it?
On mounting wheels i think torque wrenches are not necessary whats so ever. I've always just tightened the lugs and that it. Never had an issue and my dad has too on his cars for over 40 years and hes never had an issue
The more threads the better. With just 3 full threads on your lug nuts, it will do PRETTY MUCH the same amount of bitting force as more than that. With that being said, I would still like to have more than 3 threads, especially if you are beating on the car, if the bolt gets heated and then cooled, and if you want to play it safe. Most OEM lug nuts run at least 10 threads on the lug nut.
shared and liked ur video
I want to buy it, but how can I make it so that it is not stolen? Can be used with anti-theft insurance
Don't you have to take the studs off to replace the rotors? How would you do so because of the red locktite? Would the blue come off easily while you are taking the wheels off?
I dont see why you would need to remove the studs itd be just like a regular car but then again i haven't done the brakes on my golf yet so i cant really say the process
The studs thread into the hub not the actual rotor. The rotors would just come off as east as if you had a factory 4 stud hub
Cheers
If I want to do this on my JCW with 5mm spacers, would the 75mm length work?
Yes they will :)
@@milanmastracci thanks my dude!
That wide body kit better be good with that much of a wait (; just kidding haha
Man you channel is better than MightyCarMods! All about DIY.
Who is the kit from?
or you can put car in first gear and while tightening the stud it doesnt move. love the videos keep em coning !!
The opposite wheel would spin in that situation. The only way that would work, is if your car is an automatic, and you leave it in park.
milanmastracci good point keep it up man i watch every single video you upload!! youre the reason my cars look awesome :)
You should of put it in reverse gear to tighten the studs and in first gear to take them off I hope it helps you down the road 🙂
Just a heads up, torquing like that can give you an inaccurate torque. Thats why they have the allen in the end. It should be torqued to 36ft/lbs with the allen.
It wont be too far off though. Otherwise, great video.
Could they fit a Peugeot??
I would be more concerned about the heat rating on the threadlocker since your brakes will transmit a lot of heat through the studs, especially if you're going to track the car. Even the "permanent" red stuff breaks down with enough heat. The package says it's good up to 232 C, which isn't unheard of for a track car with aggressive pads.
Thanks for the effort even during exam times, :-)
what if i want to run other style lug nuts? is that possible?
subie_cuhh like open ended? You can use any kind of lug that you want that is the name thread, and the same style (cone, acorn, etc.)
what about those closed end ones. kind of like those you see with stanced cars (with spikes haha)
One of your videos was on the news
Really?!? Which video? and what news?
Are you able to remove the routers
Yes, the rotors can be removed normally with removing the brake caliper first.
Good spesar
I have a Vw Polo 6n2 what bolts i need for this car ?
www.wheel-size.com/size/volkswagen/polo/
Thank you verry much , I'm from Romania excuse my english :D
Cheers buddy :)
I'm also doing my exams now... I have three to go. :)
Good luck :)
Or you could tighten them with an allen wrench?
You still need to be able to get an appropriate torque wrench on there to get the achieved torque spec.
You can get hex key sockets??
woooo
Nice video.
BTW, I would try putting the car in gear when doing the front wheel bolts.
That won't work if the car has an open differential.
*****
Unless the opposite wheel is on the ground, which is how I'll do it if there was no help.
'The problem is if it's a Manual transmission with an open diff and you have the opposite wheel on the ground the wheel that''s in the air will spin.
When 2 of the 3 shafts attached to he differential gear system are practically locked in place, it become impossible to rotate the remaining wheel that's off the ground to any significant degree without breaking something. No need to take my word for it, try it yourself if you have the opportunity to do so. It's how I've been able to work on my open diff FWD car all this time alone.
Does your FWD car have an automatic transmission or a manual?
Hey man still waiting to hear back from you on tuning with ktuner
Send me an email at milanmastracci@gmail.com :)
corlissbr@gmail.com
I sent you an email
Yup agreed. Pain in the ass
Its a good thing there's a way around it though :)
Yeah definitively, I daily a volvo 940! I'm really excited for drifting this season! Thanks for this video, will be installing that mod lol, no more pain in the ass swapping drift wheels (steelies in my case cuz i'm poor LMFAO)
Joe Gosselin Your 940 has wheel bolts? Both my 1989 740 and 1992 940 had studs+nuts, maybe yours is younger, weird they would change something like that!
after you install those studs can you later change your brake rotor or you need to unscrew those studs?
Nope, you can leave them on there. The brake rotor will just slide over the studs
That lug is long how does a wheel spaner fit 🤔
Not a problem
WIDE BODY KIT!!
WIDE BODY KIT!!
WIDE BODY KIT!!
WHERE IS IT MILAN?😂😂
I have it!!! I have 2 more videos to do before I can do the wide body video :)
Does your accord now means 'other car' as you pointed out and said? your love for that is not at that extent now, i guess!
8:00 this is not how physics works. If you are putting 80 ft-lbs of torque, something must be counter acting it (conversation of angular momentum). The stud MUST be experiencing the same torque at the hub - in the opposite direction, otherwise it would spin. Try holding the stud at the hub end (act like you're the hub) then bottom out the nut and turn it - in order to keep the stud in place - your hand must apply an equal and opposite torque. It doesn't matter if the bolt is compressing the wheel or not and "stretching" the threads. The initial torque you apply is just to seat the stud - then the 80 ft-lb is also tightening the stud to the hub. With the locktite, it means that when you remove the nut - the stud won't come off with it. The stud will also experience 80 ft-lbs of torque when you remove the nut.
I don't mind the lug bolts I've had zero issues with them.
If you're okay with them, then by all means, don't change it :)
Give a shop tour like so he can see
May sound stupid but if you use red loctite wouldn’t changing your rotors be a pain in the ass or is there an easy way to remove it? Cause removing the torx screw is a pain in the ass enough
