PREBALL BEGINS! Collecting My Shelby GT500 in New York

- I'm back in the USA, and back with my Shelby GT500! It is time for Preball, leading up to the 2022 Gumball 3000 and where crazier to begin than New York City. Before getting on the roads of Manhattan, let's explore the showroom at TopGear Imports and get the plates on my car.
I bought my Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 in February last year; took it immediately on a coast to coast adventure for the 2021 Where's Shmee USA tour, and then have been back with it on 2 occasions since in Florida. However, given I literally bought the car in North America, and this year's Gumball 3000 takes place between Canada and the USA, it's a bit of a no brainer to take it up to Toronto for the adventure.
Before we get to the start though, there's a "Preball" road trip to get things underway, kicking off from TopGear Imports in New Jersey, after shipping up the GT500 from Miami for the occasion. The advance tour before the Gumball 3000 will take me from New York up towards Canada with stops in Montreal and Ottawa, and plenty of epic adventures.
Firstly though, just like with my Ford GT tour in 2019, we're at TopGear Imports and have the opportunity to take a look around the awesome events space and private collection including multiple Carrera GTs, Ruf CTR chassis 001, some rather special Porsches, and a "2021" G63 convertible. Unfortunately, the British weather seems to have come with me as we set off for Manhattan in thunderstorms, but that doesn't stop the fun. With a flying visit past Central Park, to then the lights of Times Square, what an amazing experience with my Shelby GT500, especially knowing that eventually the car will be over in London one day.

Did you record the mileage when handed over? Or was it emptied by freight co. They should have refilled if drained, irrespectively (a company to consider striking from your [referred partners!). Your fuel would have ended up in someones car I bet.
Shame that the company you are collaborating with for the miniature car product is not shipping to Slovenija . If you have any ideas for where can people that are not on the country’s that aren’t on the list of countries that shipped to can buy the miniature car I and other people would appreciate it greatly. Thanks in advance. Great video though 😉
I received mine about a week ago! Super nice package!
Depending on the shipping companies in the US they generally ask that your car be near empty for transport. I’m sure they emptied it at some point during the shipping process.

Agree...they totally purge your car of everything (including fuel) on shipping to the US.
it's a US car guys, only been transported within the US.
That's what I thought.. but shmee has transported cars on planes and ships before so he knows that's what happens. So if that was the case, he'd have thought about that

As a native Floridian, I get a sense of pride seeing his car having a Floridian licence plate :)
I'm always amazed of Tim's knowledge of cars & the way he can identify them all with a point of his finger.

@freepieanchipsgarage legit and not JDM... but this is normal when you like cars, I like to do that, just to spot cars as you’re driving, in the Highway, in the city or when you’re abroad. It’s always a different scene ... I mean when you’re around cars and you are a car enthusiast... it’s just automatic.

If the car was stored inside some locations are not allowed to have more than a 1/4 tank because of fire code. Also some transporters will request for the tank to be emptied to be under the max payload of the trailer if they know that they are going to have a max load.

I've never seen that wimbledon green color on the 964, beautiful shade of green. Always nice to see Shmee in New York, be very careful with any sports car, the road surface and construction zones are a danger.

I've only driven a mustang GT but in my time with that car. It won me over. Handled really good even in bad weather they stay planted because the tcs is really good. So I could only imagine what a GT500 would feel like on gumball

Hey Tim, been following you for many years. Thought you find it interesting that Hertz, the car rental company, is going to rent at various US airports a Ford Shelby American GT-500H with 900 horsepower. $399 a day plus mileage. They are also renting a Hertz-Shelby GT-H with I believe 450 horsepower for $99 p/day, no mileage charge. Don't think it's started yet, but soon.

New York/New Jersey has some great roads and scenery, all away from the city. New York city is a thing unto itself, and a great experience as well. Not one I care to repeat though.
He was nearly in tears having to put more petrol in it! 😂🤣. Even went back to check an old picture of it! Will no doubt send a bill to the storage / transport people.

Yeah, was expecting the zenvo before but its alright i guess just need to be aware of the fuel
it was a damn shame that gt500 is such a nice open road car and they stuffed it up with a little fuel tank .... someone should build an aftermarket tank that makes it bigger
TBH I don’t think the GT500 was the plan. I think it became a very suitable fallback when it became clear the GT Black was going to make it. I still think there is an outside shot the extra time he has before Gumball begins and makes it back stateside that at least one other surprise Shmeemobile will join the fray. Could possibly even be the Zenvo.

Just based off of Shmee’s livery selection for his cars, the guy has good taste.
You went into Manhattan, but if you go up north from the George Washington Bridge, you can get some really nice driving roads in the Upstate Mountains not too far from the city.
I haven't been to my hometown, New York, in a decade. This is making me smile!

Very cool car Tim, and awesome to see the streets of NYC again. Lots have happened since I was there in 1997 & 2004. The suspension seems a bit stiff as you appear to be bouncing in your seat while driving?

Rain has to be expected on the East coast in the spring. We just got snow in Colorado. It went from 87° to 28° and snowed all Friday.

I work up the street from the Alfa dealer at the Mercedes Benz Dealer as a Tech, the Alfa dealer is privately owned and that's why they have all does other cars in the show room, I asked the same question and that's what I got lol hope that helps
