Although it would be wrong in itself to take more than one was authorized to do, which i believe “corporate Christianity” is guilty of, the concept of “dishonest gain” etc had to do with profiting from false prophecies, visions and lies, or as it says, doing injustice to those who deserved justice, for bribes. Basically they were telling people what they wanted to hear, making unjust judgments for money, using their power to inexcusably commit crimes against the sheep, for compensation from whoever their “client” was… just in general using their office to be a sort of hired gun for others and themselves or to tell people all was well when the truth was that God had decreed desolation because of their sin.
I think you’re conflating the idea of profiteering-which could be true whether one was doing the right thing or the wrong thing-with the idea of being a wicked person who is maybe deceived or not, but definitely deceiving others for their own profit and pleasure.
“Corporate Christianity” may be filled with false teachers as well but I think there needs to be a distinction drawn between selfish and self indulgent false teachers and possibly a good teacher who is taking a salary under the “corporate Christianity” model. Both would need to repent, but one is definitely different than the other.

I think that the idea that in 2 Peter 2-3, Jude, Revelation 2 the thing they are condemning is pretending to be godly, while using ungodliness as a means of gain.
But it is also true, though different, that thinking that godliness is a means of gain.
This is why I think you should be making a distinction between people who may be good teachers but caught up in the “corporate Christianity” model…or tempted to go that route as opposed to people who are teaching bad things to fund their pursuit of pleasure in the name of Christ.
The filthy lucre and doctrine of balaam was not “leveraging his relationship/knowledge of God for gain” per se, because he was actually willing to curse Israel, but Deuteronomy says God turned his curse into a blessing…plus he taught balak how to tempt Israel into breaking God’s law and bringing destruction upon themselves via the plague. Balaam was destroyed in the conquest of Canaan for his wickedness. The point of Balaam is the point of the rest of 2 Peter 2 and Jude, ungodly people were going to be judged for their ungodly deeds. Sensuality, sexual immorality, adultery, deception, lust, self indulgence, blaspheming authority, denying the Lord, all kinds of disobedience-these are the things that those who were like Cain, Korah, Balaam, sinful angels, Sodom/Gomorrah, disobedient Israelites and those in the days of Noah were all guilty of.
That’s not the same as telling a faithful preacher to make sure he only takes what he has been authorized to take.
So while I agree with you on the opposition to “corporate Christianity” practices, in and of itself, it does not constitute the doctrine of balaam, who is merely a single example of false teachers, lying prophets etc, who are typified in and condemned by God through the prophets who themselves had forsaken knowledge and were not teaching the people what was right or to repent of their sins and follow in God’s way, but we’re doing evil themselves and supporting the crimes of others with the power invested in them, for their own advantage.

Umm. No one in the assembly is authorized to take anything. The idea that if they’re teaching good things they are authorized as opposed to if they’re teaching bad things they’re unauthorized is simply a fallacy.
Novices shouldn’t be teaching, and men experienced in the word have no excuse for not knowing that there’s no provision for extorting tithe or salary from the assembly in the New Covenant.
