- vSpy vSpy's classic Australian rock song 'Don't Tear it Down', still as relevant today as ever. One of the all time great Aussie rock tracks. Whilst the band was more an album band than a singles band, this was their highest charting single in Australia, peaking at #31.

The 80's wasn't only a decade, it is a Lifestyle.
I am so 80's heart and Soul.
Best time. Bands everywhere, cheap to watch, not many police, breathalysers. A band member told me it was a unique time in Australia, live bands everywhere, RSL, Leagues clubs, pubs, entertainment centres, wine bars, etc. Now we have poker machine, expensive drink, early closing times,, heaps of cops. This is what happens when the politicians control us.
Just one of the awesome Aussie bands of the 80's that shits all over todays crap!
Indeed
this comment gets truer EVERY FUCKING YEAR ....
correct by far
So true
It was a great time to be young and alive.
Dude every brazilian surfer back in the 80's was a huge fan of Aussie bands!
Even the Brazilians who was not a surfer but liked ska music loved Aussie bands !!!
@@brunalop2000 You're right lol. I don't even surf, this band is awesome.
Im going surf now 6:30 am listen this music, lets Dale 🤪💥

I am Australian and I married a girl from Niteroi. Unbelievable how similar Brazil is to how Australia used to be before it lost some of its charm and fire. Love Brazil so much!
It’s absolutely criminal that Spy V Spy never got the recognition they truly deserved, I saw them live several times, and each performance was perfection.
R.I.P Mike Weiley, you were a gifted, talented guitarist.
😢
Truth. This band had the chops.
Agreed!
!00% Looks like the Brazilian surfers appreciated the hell out of them!
It wasn't just surfers, many liked it and weren't surfers, we still love it today....
At least those who listened between 1980 and 2000.
And it wasn't just Spy vs Spy, we loved Australian bands from that period, the golden period of Australian music.
INXS, Hunters & Collectors, Noiseworks, Hoodoo Gurus, Spy vs Spy, James Rayne, Midnight Oil, Gang Gajang, Crowded House, Diesel, Australian Crawl, Cold Chisel, AC / DC, The Angels, The Choirboys etc ... etc ...
Thanks Austrália 🇦🇺!!!! Still listening from 🇧🇷
Cheers from Brasil. 80's Aussie bands have a lot of fans here.
Wow didn't know that !

Miss the band 2024 rock on boys👍
These guys were unbelievable! Brilliant. Australia had the best bands in the world in the 80s. These guys would have been world beaters in any other country. Maybe we had too many great bands?
We had a mother load of bands , a veritable gold streak . . that no doubt will be rediscovered by future prospectors , it,s not for us to ask for , or expect any kind of reward in this life . . that reward if any , will come afterwards , from the fruits of our actions
Lode
Wise words my friend!
' Maybe we had too many great bands?'
No maybe about it sadly... :( They all came and went in a decade and we were left with nothing
My dad bump them about 10 times and supported them and they supported my dads band at the time (Derringer), & The Renegades
The sound these guys put out as a 3 piece was phenominal
A lot of it's got to do with Blox's bass tone, and the mixing, which was always spot on.
Feliz 2023!! Spy the best!
No tricks, no electronics, just guitars, drums and vocals... thats why spy v spy sound good in any era... 80s, 90s, thousands and now. Some of their music was ahead of its time; lyrics are still relevant today... i love their music
Are you Cliff’s brother?
“No electronics”....
You mean.... like the electric guitar?

80s Aussie pub rock... filthy goin' out short-sleeved shirts, power trio as tight as a gnat's chuff and songs about important stuff. I miss it.
Powerful lyrics, powerful playing. Classic oz band.
RIP Mike Weiley. You brought light to many people
Watching this in 2024 with my Harry's Reasons T on. :) Still f-in brilliant.
The pub band era produced so many memories - Aussie crawl, chisel, icehouse, radiators, the mentals, these guys- gone but not forgotten.
Radiators are still doin gigs, but the sound is long gone.
The first time I saw the 'Spies' was at the Vulcan Hotel Sydney around 1986-87 on a Friday night. I was suppose to be in class at the Sydney Institute of Technology which is just across the road in Kelly Street. I saw them live a couple of times in the 'gong later. Great band live and one of the loudest.
oi, what about 'The Screaming Jets'! ;)
The Angels
Spies defintiely not gone!! They have an awesome new track "Overland" and new album on the way

Minha vida e juventude foi ouvindo esses aussies Rock australiano de primeira.
Wow what a song , so true
Michael Wealey & Joe Strummer forever in my heart
Mike we will never forget you, one of the greatest Oz rock guitarist
HE IS IN HEAVEN
Remember over a post show beer at Engadine show, Blox was talking about Mike, his skills on the guitar and with their tunes etc.
The look on his face said a lot - he had nothing but the highest praise for Mike as a bloke and as a musician, even comparing him to some greats.
Well said mate..Australia have the best bands in the world✌
@@truespyfan He had a very unique style, this is the first time I've seen him play.
You won't hear many players like that anywhere
Yes, he was an absolute genius.
Was lucky enough to meet them and watch them play. In my mind one of Australia's most under rated bands! GUTSY, HONEST GUYS.!!!!
Best Aussie song ever.
And i'm an Aussie.
Part of 80's 'conscience rock" movement with Midnight oO
l in the vanguard.. JAW
these are the days and I was there to listen in the pub gig with a smoke and a beer in my hand rocking on !!!!
That's exactly what we're still doing now. We had some of the best bands ever!
This is not a song...Its an anthem!!
LYRICS:
Stonemasons
Are becoming things of the past
And the modern age
Is finally taking us over at last
Don't you wonder why?
They're tearing all the the old houses down
Can't they see?
That they're the best places around
Don't tear it down,
There's life in it yet
Don't tear it down
Don't you know that
History,
Is written there deep in the walls
But the march of progress
Just wants to pour concrete over us all
Craftsmanship,
The stone was cut by hand
Bulldozers
Are taking over the land
Don't tear it down, there's life in it yet
Don't tear it down, there's time for us yet,
Don't tear it down
An expressway,
Is planning to come thru our lounge
Eviction notes, in business coats
Never renovate, they just tear it down
A nation's heritage,
They want to bring down without a sound
Another new town
On top of the real town
Don't tear it down, there's life in it yet
Don't tear it down, there's time for us yet,
Don't tear it down, there's life in it yet
Don't tear it down
Used to play this cassette in the workshop on a cattle station back in the eighties while working. The Slim Dusty crowd hated it but its still the best memory I have of that job.
Que vibe, que som do caralho.Bons tempos...
Still as relevant today as it was when it was originally released. And it's still one of my all time favorite songs.
OMG how good were the 80s!! Love these guys and lost track I've how many times I've seen them live. Blox stop cooking and make a comeback. Guaranteed bum's on seats if you made a few cameos in the new Spies lineup. RIP Mike.
Greatest Australian band in the 80s!..
This band is Based. Love these old Australian Bands,so much stuff I wouldn't see without CZcams.
This one's for you NSW government. Tearing down Sydney. Still relevant now.
Victoria is worse mate. Bulldozers going through 1800's houses because the rich want the land to build some ugly monstrosity.
Take a look at Perth. Same destruction here😢
Brilliant song!..Brilliant Band!👍👍❤
Pra mim, esse eh o melhor som do Spy vs Spy
This song will always remind me of the morning of my sister's wedding day. It was a HOT day in late February 1987 and we were crammed into my brother's car driving around town with this song absolutely blasting. A great memory.

It seems like yesterday. Still so very good to listen to today
Still have & play it very loud on my old school hi-fi…mint condition copies of the entire Spies discography….vinyl rules!
What an excellent band
Another killer Sydney band from back in the good old days ... these boys were under The Oils wing.
Rikitocker yeah man and two of them were from Newcastle
I went to see spy’s support the oils, awesome night.
Spies took a leaf outta MO butvthey had plenty of kick in themselves
my bloke didnt agree that when we listening to the angels at home and i said, oh, that intro sounds like the oils in their surfer days and he was not impressed. well, he was the one to introduce me to their early work!!
Já fui no show deles na play houve, ALOHA!
I lived in st kilda when this came out .and this song came out .but the water front of melbourne was changing b4 our eyes.🤔ps i bought the single.🤔👍

Awesome band to see live. Sallyanne is an Oz classic. RIP MICHAEL.
Happy Australia Day 👍
What a great song. How have I lived so long and have never heard this before??
Yeah, same for me! Great song and I've never heard of it or the band!
Australia's version of The Clash.
One of the best 80s Sydney Pub bands ever. This song still kicks arse. 👍 love it. ❤ up the Spy's...never forgotten.
R.I.P Mike. Remembered it well back in the late 80's watching you guys live at a little club called "The Roxy" in Brisbane Fortitude Valley. Absolutely brilliant.
In Wickham St . There also was the skinniest venue in the world " The Outpost " back in the day
After the Outpost ?
@MrMotorNerd The Roxy, in Brunswick St, held 3,000. I asked the manager when playing to 50 there.
He's probably referring to after The Outpost.
Those that see the current "Spys" - have on idea what they are missing out on compared to the original trio....
Fiz uma trip de surfe para Fernando de Noronha, em 2001... Na época editei o vídeo e numa das melhores partes - mar pesado, altos tubos - é essa a trilha sonora!
best ever 3 piece band in aussie history
Great Aussie track!
Fantastic song
Fantastic band
Sydney once was a fantastic city
Yeah the develooers tore it all down ..in 86 this was hardly a big problem.

Muito bom !!!! tive o prazer de ter ido ao um Show desta banda maravilhosa aqui no Brasil.
Gratos
So proud of our Aussie bands..glad I was privileged to grow up in this era of amazing talent!! Still love this today as much as ever.
Have left a comment about this amazing band before, but what I didn't say was as a pre-teen when I first heard "Injustice" that this is THE song that inspired me to pursue history as an elective in high school & then to qualify as an Anthropologist and Archaeologist (10yrs of study!) as an adult to be informed, emboldened & empowered to be one who, daily, chooses to fight the good fight because our First Nations Peoples DESERVE to be recognised, celebrated, honoured, treasured, RESPECTED and have THEIR histories TOLD!! Bless the lads, STILL one of my top 5 fave bands EVER - changed my life absolutely 💜🙏🏻☮️
All people matter. STOP trying to create disaggregation! That's the problem. Guess 10 years at Uni didn't teach you that. Bet you've never been west of the great divide. Murri.

Great Sydney 3 piece band, saw them many times, most memorable a sweaty night at the awesome Selinas, Coogee Bay Hotel 💕
I used to go see this band live in Melbourne, when I was about 18. I remember seeing this clip on TV and thinking, wow, they're really intense about stone masonry.
Love your way of thinking! 🤣🤣🤣
