I'm playing my first gig in 17 years tonight! Richard Lara from the
Screaming Jets and myself have put together a reggae band called
SKATTERHEAD playing all '80's Australian music reggae style. We do Spys,
Jets, Oils, Chisel, Divinyls, INXS etc. all REGGAE! It's fun &
funny. Toronto Hotel NSW Christmas Eve our first gig ever. Wish us luck!

This is the most amazing news.....need you back in perth as with others you guys were everything to a few of us the 50 odd times I saw you live (more than 5 times in one week as I remember)...your tales of gardening .....and the power find it hard to believe that 3 of you did all that but then I watched you time and time again....I have all your stuff and you all signed the lot when I managed the junction in midland and you played there on a back in Australia tour after years of madness in Brazil...Go to Work......geeez how many times did that go through my head....

You must be the same age as me, because I have the exact same feeling. Devasted about Mike's passing & the fact Craig's left the scene.
Not only were the Spy's brilliant, their video's are so culturally important. They really are brilliant & ground breaking at where a lot of the Spy's Videos have been filmed. I don't even think they knew the importance of some of the heritage in their Videos, some of it no longer there. Such as the ship wreck of the North Coast of NSW, that many of us played around & even in, seen in "One of a Kind".

Every where from Wentworth Park to the Blue Mountain's.
Craig even had his on channel here, for awhile, where he posted all of their Videos. He also attached a lengthy description about each day's filming. Very important details about what they did that day, & location details.
Sadly, I think its been taken down as i can't find it. Doubt Craig would of taken it down. Also Wiki pages for Craig & Mike don't exist any more. Don't know why I know Wiki takes stuff down, if they think their not famous enough, but really??? Surely that can't be it????
Me and my buddies grew up in Sydney going to their shows and in our own band we even had a crack at half a dozen Spies songs. What an inspiration

I was a huge fan of them when they were still Spy vs Spy and were opening for Midnight Oil gigs.

Seen them opening for Midnight Oil at Enmore theatre. Great night.
Pounding Drums, a thumping bass line and driving lead guitar.
Rock music doens't get any better than the Spys.
Such a great live act to catch, and was so glad that I got to see the boys do their thing
Just an incredible act. There is not another power guitar band in Oz that doesn’t owe their existence to these guys.
Lament that night I was changing CD's and knelt on Spy's greatest hits CD and broke it.

When I went to Sydney in 2016, I searched for any Spy's albuns in Downtown... But... I didn´t find none... . So sad that. This band is one of the most underrated of the world. Love it!
I recall buying several of their albums in the 1990s on Pitt St in Sydney's CBD, where there used to be 4 or so 2nd-hand record stores close to each other; and many more stores within 20 minutes walk. Sadly they nearly all closed down during the 2000s.

That first 1 minute of the intro is still one of my all time fav's..
There wasn't really much to dislike in their music.

Saw these guys at least 4 times in my youth, first when I was 15 at an outdoor gig in Queensland... they really are under rated.. brilliant songs

My youth was listening to this band with the mull on me besdie with the orchy bottle in hand.
SPY VS. SPY deserved much more. The first time I saw them they were backing Midnight Oil at Memorial Drive in Adelaide. To be back in those days. ...take me back now .
I remember the surf crowd lovin these guys... heard em thru buying a tape at a music stire in 1988 and taking a chance 😂 , diffrent times, no way to listen first back in my little town ( even in the cities only some stores early days would have opps to listen to music first). Think it was xenaphobia- but by 94 i had all the albums on offer- good times👍.
Its so easy to hear and even the most obscure of bands these days but in the 80s etc it was only by liking a cover of an album or hearing word of a good band/ song that would allow finds. We only had ABC tv, a top 40 radio station and one music shop. Nostalgic but prefer what opps the kids have now days

Thank you Laneway Music .Amazing sound. They were on Blah Blah Blah on the ABC tv, mid 80s, Andrew Denton tried to take the piss out of Craig by jumping in front of him and miming him. You could see Craig tells Andrew to FO. I have it on VHS. They were just incredible. They played at Penrith Leagues (free entry) in 2007 only 40 people in the audience, their drummer was the lead singer..
Any chance you could transfer or Lon is the vhs Craig would be stoked to see it
.I have a great collection of tapes. I regularly taped stuff, 400 VHS tapes . I would need to find it. Let me see if I can locate first, I know I have it. I may be able to copy it directly off a TV and made send it to you as a file on the mobile phone.
Needs to be highest quality possible as vhs is bad from the start so don’t go to to much trouble
After they finished the song, Andrew comes up to Craig. Craig grabs Andrew in a headlock and tells him he would thump him one. That was just a gem. We love Craig for that. That Andrew was such a goose. Let me try to find it. I will copy it for youse.

They Should Put out a Complete Works CD. All Singles including B Sides, all Albums, E.P.s, 12 inch singles, recorded but unreleased materials. And all Videos Concerts, etc on DVD. Even if they have to do a Kickstarter. I would buy it. Do limited edition Vinyls. A Great Aussie Band, with Great Lyrics and Music.

Was commercially released by a company going by the name of EastWest. I still have my copy that I picked up new from my local record store back in the day. Hope this helps.
