They were so underrated. Midnight Oil got all the accolades of this genre but in my opinion, SVS were just as good.

Fantastic Australian band. So underrated.
I found a friend's old study notes, which were to do with 'Green bans.'
These began life around 1971, when the NSW chapter of the BLF decided that the destruction of our natural heritage must stop.
The notes spoke of a union leader named Jack Mundey.
And after reading the notes, the first thing I wanted to do was listen to this great song. 🏢🏤🏦🏯

Grew up with 80s and the spies, love this song to peices. From the bush and i play this song on repeat wherever i go, whether it be 6 minutes, or 6 hours, and just took the time to learn it on bass guitar, such an epic song. Cant beat the 80s or the spies! LEGENDS!
Certainly one of the greatest bands to ever come out of Oz. This is a song well before its time. Bravo boys!

This was either 1986 or 87. You can see the Grosvenor place building under construction in the background that was opened in 1988. Seen spy's live many times late 80's, great band.
Reckon I saw them every time they came to melbourne, great days.

I found where they filmed this. 2 Henry Lawson avenue, McMahons Point, sydnew nsw. There's a park bench around where the stage used to be, it looks like the entire road got redone sometime after they filmed this

Believe it was when they supported the Oils on Goat Island so 1985.

I’m curious to know what the Countdown Special was on this particular day; Do-Re-Mi performed Guns and Butter later in the evening on the same stage, with a bit more rain!

It wasn't a special, but the episode special guests were from the Get Real Drug Project, so I presume it had something to do with that.
@@Austech Laneway Music needs to do some more digging to find these other performances!
@@castlemania08 I was able to help Laneway Music out with a remastered performance of Guns and Butter which I have just finished and passed on to them, so subscribe if you haven't already and look out for it in the future on this (laneway's) channel ! So all up, there was 3 performances that day 30 November 1986 - This one of the Spys, then Do Re Mi with Guns and Butter (in the rain), then Noiseworks with No Lies ( at night).
As I mentioned, I have remastered the Noiseworks video with the link a few comments back (don't forget to check my channel out as well), I remastered this one of the Spy's and I have just remastered Do Re Mi's Guns and Butter which I have passed on to Laneway Music this week. So that will be all 3 performances remastered to 1920 x 1080 and all with new lossless audio tracks. Gotta love that ! And a thumbs up to Laneway Music for working with me to get high quality music videos up for the enjoyment of everyone. Usually rights holders are trying to have everything on my channel pulled down, so it's great to be working with people with the same goal.......top notch music videos for everyone to watch.

No, that's how it was broadcast at the time, along with the other bands who played on the day. Pretty common for some ABC Countdown performances, which this was, of the era.

@@Lanewaymusic that’s another reason cold chisel destroyed the instruments when they performed on countdown way back when
no as they recorded this for countdown and if it was in the studio only the vocals would have been live but due to it being outside in an uncontrolled atmosphere the vocals were mimed also.
@@Lanewaymusic I remember early Countdown the vocals were livet. I watched Ole 55 Looking for an Echo with live vocals today. I think even that changed later which is sad really. Aussie bands are more than capable of doing it live.

Was at Sydney Uni prob when this was recorded. Remember seeing their gig posters at the Uni. Im sure they played in nearby venues. Give me a time machine and take me back 😭
