I would keep some Valkyrie's stuff into it. 😉
Nice box. Love the wood grain!!!!
Cigars? Or maybe an urn for a loved one? A beautiful box built by a master craftsman no matter what’s stored inside.
The heart of the one that broke mine...
Just kidding, but somebody had to say it! Awesome box Brother! Once again, I loved the video!
Beautiful box! I enjoy your work so much, I look forward to every post! Thank you, keep’em coming.
Looks like a cigar box.
Not 9 seconds in and John made my day.
Intro of the year.
Wow AWESOME 🙏. Du bist der Beste . . .
Your cold open gave me a chuckle. I shared with some friends, showed my wife, and then showed my son. Humor FTW.
John - Having watched your channel for a while, I remember when you rough milled the wood from the tree. Really satisfying to see it come together in such a beautiful piece. For a box, I was amazed at how many different techniques were used. The key being, they were used by a pro craftsman. Thanks for taking the time to make a video of it.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching it :)
My father build a hardwood box over 30 years ago in his father's carpenter shop to hold oil paints. Both my Father and Grandfather have passed away, but I still have the box. It's pretty beat up and still has its original finish, but I think of them every time I look at it. I've been thinking of building one for my step son. It's important for men to make and gift these things. Instant sub for the opening joke LOL
Absolutely stunning figure... never thought I'd say that to another man, but there you go.
The Other Marshal box and crotch, a classic combination.
Beautiful work John! You have so much home built equipment now that I have to look twice at where the jig ends and the piece starts 😉
He really should paint his homemade equipment.
I heard green is a good colour for that :)
Jehty naah, he picked nice wood :) and it seems John is more of a natural colors-tones-shades guy
BEAUTIFUL, you've come a long way from the day you and your brother reworked that door and frame at the school. Well done.
That method for coving the panel on the table saw is absolutely genius. All this time I thought I needed a big 3xp3nsive router bit to do that. Thank you
john you probably don't hear it enough but your a got dam genius! While watching you operate that box joint jig that you created i was observing the mechanics involved and even though i've seen it before this time it hit me the amount of ingenuity that went into something most folks would buy from rockler and be done. same applies to many of your tools but the impressive part is these are not novelty replicas or display items rather you actually use the hell out of the tools you create and that's freaking awesome brother!!!!
Bonsoir de 🇫🇷👍 je viens de découvrir votre chaîne vraiment impressionné par la conception et le résultat de se projet de ´´ boîte ´ ´ très belle réalisation ! 👍👌👏 Merci et j’adhère !! Pascal.
That ultimate jig is amazing! I want one! Still only a novice at wood working though
Classic. Nice watching.
I enjoyed the slightly longer video. Gives more of a chance to tell the whole story. And although it's not an original story, I still enjoy all of it.
The grain is stunning and was a perfect choice for the box. Great work!
Beautiful piece John, thanks so much for sharing with us!!
The color really came out with the Oil. Great job.
John, What an absolute Joy to Watch, Thank You ! Love that Box/Finger Joint Jig You used too
I love watching you work ...with all your beautiful hand crafted tools! Inspiring!!
John, I love your channel. You are a fantastic woodworker and teacher!
Beautiful.
Beautiful work
How beautiful! Thanks
I'm a big fan of that cove cut on the raised panel! Well done!
" A man needs a box, and I'm not talking gender reassignment here" That's something my grandfather would say...you got my subscription.
That line made my day, scrolled through comments just so I could "like" someone else who made a comment about it.
I just about laughed my disfigured genitals off!
Gold!!
A man needs a box!
This thing looks ridiculously good. How you solved the inevitable problems every project comes with is also great to watch and good to learn from.
Once again a perfect video. Craftsmanship, narration, production, aesthetics...
Thank you again
You have such humble narrating, you are obviously a master of your craft , cool gadgets, thanx for the video keep making that saw dust
I've watched a lot of your videos John, and I gotta say, I really like this one, especially.
A totally stunning build from start to finish, and an absolutely gorgeous box in the end!
Your craftsmanship is amazing, and definitely something I look up to. Thanks so much for sharing this.
John, it is incredible to see the breadth of work you have put in over the years - this video was a beautiful creation made on your multitude of amazing creations. It really struck me and made me appreciate how much you have shared with us over the years. Thank you
Stunning piece of wood. Beautiful box John.
Absolutely Stunning - end product, and your process / tools / jigs / work!

Spectacular looking woodgrain there!
You are a fantastic and fun guy, mixing incredible knowledge and technique with wit and accomplishment. LOVED this piece. Excellent.
so beautiful, love the color.
Got halfway through on my coffee break. Looking forward to watching the whole thing when I get home from work. Always a pleasure watching your videos John
Hey John, that's really beautiful work - thanks for sharing!
Wow a real treat it's not Often that you make projects completely out of''real''wood .
I was gonna 'comment/ ask' why you didn't made the groove first and then the box joint but the article cleared that up !
Store it with your plans and Tell '' this is the mastercopy'' since the box is made by the master!
Hope to see more projects like this.👌
Beautiful wood, beautiful finish, beautiful box. Beautiful.
Thanks for showing how and sharing that
Thats a really good looking box .
John, Definitely like the figure and the way you matched it!
really well done John. I enjoyed this one a lot.
Great build. Wonderful to have the old video!
It's quite the educational and enjoyable experience to watch your process and to see your excellent finished piece. Thanks
That wood is beautiful! Nice work. Thanks for sharing
Excellent video, so many 'little tricks' to absorb, and that wood looked outstanding!
Hey John! One of your best! You sound really happy!
John it's a beautiful box mate I love
Very nice, John!! Thanks for the video!
First, love the way you got the grain wrap around the box. Very nice and really does justice to the wood.
Second, That cove detail on the lid works great as it shows off some of the depth of the grain.
Wow! That box is stunning! Your craftsmanship is great, but that beautiful spalted maple, with the tung oil finish, really steals the show. Nicely done, John.
i like the 2 sticks slide together to measure the inside of the groove!! slick little trick.
Note to self, next time I'm doing box joints cut some in a scrap piece while I'm set up to cut them just in case I need a repair piece. Nice looking box John, I got some very good tips from this video. On a side note I was toying with building a jointer out of parts I salvaged from a 12 1/2" planer, I'd all but given up on the idea till i saw you using your homemade jointer.
Beautiful colour
Beautiful craftsmanship!
I like your approach and the outcome that you shared. This box is totally you!
That wood is Devine! Great job John
You are a truly Craftsman. The amount of homemade jigs, clamps, etc. is astounding. Keep it up on your presentations. Thank U.
Marvelous pattern in the wood. I would definitely keep such a work of art. I would keep "treasures" in there; my mother's earrings, some of my kid's drawings, a gift from a dear friend.
Lovely Box - Enjoyed the video - thank you.
Perfect! That's sooo pretty.
Beautiful! I like the curve you gave the top panel. I also like the tool u use to change the table saw blade.
Wow, just Wow!!! You have inspired me to learn more!! Thank You
Great looking work.
John, Nicely done. Another great video! What beautiful wood! Thanks for sharing!
This is so beautiful.
Beautiful box, John.
Looks about the right for a few baitcasting reels.
The grain looks amazing
great looking box john, and workmanship.
stunning piece! thank you for another great video
Gorgeous little box. Thanks for explaining the how-to as well. As a beginner, I loved seeing all the different techniques, especially using the table saw for the coved lid!
Yes, that part really caught my attention, had never seen that technique before.
That is some beautiful timber. Nice job John.
Very beautiful. There are boxes and then there's yours.
Beautiful result, well explained and some really useful techniques in that video - thank you.
Nice to see a woodworking project for a change. I like it a lot. Thanks for sharing your talents.
John, what a beautiful piece!
From a tree in your back yard to that, pretty incredible my friend.
Gary
Crazy, never thought of using a table saw like that.
That cove went really well!
John Thanks for sharing and the great education.. you are a master craftsman.
It's amazing all the things you are doing with a table saw
Beauty of a job!
Beautiful box! It's so great to see all of your hand-made tools in action along the process of building things.
Thanks :)
As always John, great video and an inspiration for me to build a few for Christmas gifts this year.
Wow! Wish I could give this more than one thumbs up! Beautiful piece of wood, and the perfect use for it! Elegant simple design. Love how you used so many of your shop built tools throughout. Think the power sander is the only tool you didn’t make. Very clever how you fixed the broken box joint ends. Really great project and video. Thanks John!
Very Nice work, beautiful wood... Congrats!!!
Wood looks beautiful
7:59 - I've never seen this technique before! Very very nice!
