I can't imagine how horrible it must be to realize there's something fundamentally wrong with your child. You hold them in your arms as a baby, overjoyed and thinking about what kind of a person they'll become, only to realize that there's something wrong with them that no amount of love can fix. You bring something so beautiful into the world, and then they become something that, for everyone's safety, needs to be taken out of it.

Therapy can be really hard to start for some people. You are opening up about your most vulnerable secrets to someone who is a total strange. If there is already anxiety there, it can make it even worse with all the what ifs. It took her this long to tell her son what was going on, so I wouldn't be shocked if that was part of it. There could be cultural stigma around therapy too.

Agreed. This mother chose to have children without dealing with her own trauma and so also chose to pass her trauma along to her son.
I say that as a CSA survivor and as the black sheep in an otherwise abusive FOO. So, I know how difficult it is to even start therapy - the inner hurdles to overcome and the practical difficulties such as finding a good therapist, paying for it, scheduling appointments around work, etc., etc. I also understand the massive stigma around mental illness and getting therapy the pressures on us both from inside and outside to not go.
But, at the end of the day while none of what was done to us was our faults, and while none of the factors deterring therapy are our faults, how we move forward is entirely our responsibilities. It is massively unfair but that is how it is.
This mother chose to not deal with her inner demons. She opted have children without dealing with her inner demons. And so, purposefully or no, she chose to inflict her inner demons on her kid(s).

I'm a parent who I can see I treat my daughter differently than my son. It's easier for me to show signs of affection to my daughter than to my son.
I still give my son love and affection But I have to force it. I've been in therapy for well over a decade.
I do tell my son it's not his fault it's me and I can't tell him the reason why.
When I was his age 12. My dad became a convicted sex offender. To a 14 year old girl.
My mom then took that information, Put me in therapy. And she and the therapist basically brainwash me to believe that my dad and his friends sexually abused me.
My dad never sexually abused me. They went listen to me they had no proof they had nothing they just kept telling me I was wrong.
So Every Sign of physical affection became wrong to me. I had to force myself to hug or show affection or be near people I cared and loved about my own parents siblings friends family.
Exceptions being babies and small children. My dad was the parent who cared about me and cared for me. My mom wanted to abort me my dad wanted to keep me.
My mom told me my dad only wanted me because he thought I was going to be a boy And a namesake. I was a girl. He raised me like a boy. Till I lost him at age 12.
The only person I have ever met that I can physically feel comfortable with is my husband. And my daughter most of the time but even with her, As my kids get older it's harder and harder for me.
And I can't explain that to my son because his Grandpa was his best friend. It was a wonderful grandfather.
A few years ago my dad passed away. Someone came forward and there's a possibility that the Girl who accused him gave a false report. The person who told me said that the girl went up to him and admitted to lying about my dad.
I don't know how truthful that is. My dad was blackout drunken doesn't remember anything.
All that affects me. It affects my parenting. Simple innocent hugs became wrong to me. Now as my son is getting older he's at the age that I lost my dad. He's becoming less like a child, The more inappropriate physical signs of affection feels to me.
But I still forced my way through it. Because my children need to feel that love from me. I love them so much. Therapy and understanding yourself can only take you so far. I can't change how my body reacts and feels, But I can manage it.
That's not what the mom there did. She chose one child over the other and that's not right.

I remember a story where the kid was just a constant danger, the family ended up moving to the lower part of the house(it was on a hill iirc). They basically lived in hiding from this completely insane person until the guy just left.
If he truly is a psychopath/sociopath, then I suspect he has a superiority complex, and he needs that belief that "I'm better then everybody else because I'm not held back by emotions/empathy" to be removed from him. Through intensive treatment, and not the therapy kind. Therapy usually doesn't work on people without a sense of empathy, because they simply don't care enough for it to work.

Sometimes of course the crim has had a shabby upbringing, but sometimes they have been good and loving parents who have neither abused nor spoilt their children, yet their child is bad to the bone. They tend to be highly intelligent, always manipulative and have little to no empathy.
As the story was told to me, the only reason my father is still alive is because my sociopath uncle happened to miss a shot and only grazed my dad's arm with a BB gun instead of getting him in the head as a child. When my grandmotger caught my uncle shooting at my dad she scolded my uncle, my grandfather tanned my uncle's hide and took the rifle away, my uncle threw a tantrum because he had missed and now he couldn't shoot at my dad anymore. Uncle was 8 and my dad was 3

It's extraordinarily unlikely to be killed by a bb gun. I'm not saying it's impossible or excusing the kids behavior or anything like that, just saying it's almost impossible. Not totally impossible but damn near. I've been shot by bb guns a dozen times. They hurt but they are not generally lethal. And yes internet contrarians, I am aware that there are very high powered pellet guns out there that definitely can kill someone, especially a child but I doubt that's what we are talking about here.

No suicide but during his hospital stay the doctors said they couldn’t keep him and I needed a plan. I told them I have no relatives nearby, there is no place to send him and what should I do, they just kept reiterating I needed a plan even when I asked what they thought I should do. I took him home and slept with my door locked and a dresser against it until I was able to transfer him to his father (who by the way encouraged this behavior). I chose to attend the college that granted me a tuition waiver, which saved me from taking $60-80,000 in loans, because of my own achievements in school. Winning a scholarship off the back of someone else’s independent labor/work on an entire section of the “application” is not only dishonest, but meritless. I don't know, something feels weird to me because the son thought there was something sxual going on between them, not something wrong between them.
The mom behaved all cuddly and cutesy and excited with the brother, and that's not how you behave with someone who R-d you.
I feel like it would've made more sense if the son felt there was something wrong since every time they were alone he could see the mom tensed up, or making excuses to leave, finding her crying when thinking she was alone, or having involuntary flinches whenever the brother "accidentally" touched her or behaving like someone with a trauma, not a happy girlfriend going on dates or that used every moment they got to be touchy-feely with her love.
Don't know, it just feels off. Very off.
It's horrible but I feel like the mom is the one who r-pd the son, got him into some twisted things, and since for years she's been manipulating him that much that made him take the blame for what happened.

Story 3: OP is not making his mother's trauma about him, his mother was letting her trauma affect her relationship with her son. It's horrible that she went through that and I hope her family is burning in hell for what they did to her BUT she needs to address that trauma with a professional because not addressing it created a rift between her and her child. It's not something that will go away and it's not something that will just get better on it's own. Dealing with my own trauma has been difficult and painful at some points but it's allowed me to move on with my life in a more healthy way and be happier. I can't stress enough the importance of therapy in these situations, not just for your sake but for the sake of people in your life that you care about.

Idk if its just me, but it seems the community has also completely shifted to having this "redditor" mindset where they take a mostly logical approach to these situations instead of thinking about the nuance or recognizing that everyone in these stories are human. A lot of people also sound like they're just here putting up with Dabney instead of actually enjoying him. Coming up with anything they can to paint him as some terrible person because he has biases and a different moral compass (like a human).
Idk, found this channel over a year or 2 ago and been enjoying his little stories and different perspective. One of the most human reddit story speakers out there. The community has shifted from "disagree but understand" to "disagreed and i cant see how you can come to that conclusion you filthy insensitive piece of garbage. You arent as good as you think" which is SO weird to me.
This all started happening when people were telling him to go on vacation because "his takes are so off", and i guess when he came back he remained the same which got people angrier.

Story 2: It doesn't matter how small a part OP played in him winning the scholarship, it's still academic dishonesty and is not okay by any means no matter the reason. If Op had simply written what was dictated as some people with disabilities can do, then that's one thing, but OP say that it felt like they were writing the essay themselves which is not okay. If you say that the essay only played a small part then if OP hadn't written the essay, do you think he would have gotten the scholarship anyway? Fact is that they both cheated and essentially stole the scholarship. It sucks but that's the truth.

If OP has anything in writting or recorded where he made these threats she needs to get them in the hands of her lawyer. She needs to get an PO box and have her new address unlisted. She needs to get a protection order, restraining order and no contact order. This isn't about this thing pretending to be a child. This is a monster that OP needs to ensure isn't welcomed back into a home where the endangerment of herself and children are high. Suing actually makes sense...
You sue in civil court, but press charges in criminal court.
Basivslly... Criminal means they go to jail and are prosecuted by whatever state; whereas suing means monetary compensation for wrong actions or death.
So... I don't know particulars of where they are, but if there isn't enough hard proof evidence (or even if there is) then they can sue for emotional damages.
For those curious, this would not put it on his record like a rape conviction but is meant to help the wronged parties if they need medical expenses, therapy, etc.
A famous example is O.J. Simpson. He was Not convicted of murder in criminal court but was tried in civil court for "wrongful death" where he lost and had to pay the victim's family.

As someone who was in and out of inpatient programs for years on end, (I think my record is 7 times in 1 year) I can say for sure that they really don't do much of anything and can often make it worse. I have a total of 6 different mental disorders, (ADHD, Mood disorder, Tic disorder, Bipolar disorder, OCD, and Autism) and for years my bipolar disorder was undiagnosed, and therefor untreated, because though my parents both knew I had Bipolar for years, no doctor, psychiatrist, or anyone would diagnose me, because they all said that Bipolar always swung to one extreme, stayed there for a fair while, swung to the other extreme, stayed there for a while, then swung back, whereas I was swinging about every week or so. And lo and behold, when one doctor finally diagnosed me with Bipolar and got me properly medicated, I went from being a not great, but not terrible person, who had huge fits of violence, to a genuinely great person who everyone around me loves within a few weeks. It’s especially not good in a parent/child relationship. If the op feels neglected and less loved, there’s probably a reason for that. Even if it’s a subconscious thing in the mother’s part (which it doesn’t fully seem like it is let’s be real), it’s still a neglect. It’s still emotional abuse. And cut it out with the “good therapy” bs, how about trying to start with any therapy? At the point you feel yourself despising your own child based on their genitalia, SEEK ANY AND ALL HELP. Give it a 4th or 5th try or maybe confront something in yourself or your past or current life and ask yourself why you see this as okay. What ops mom did is not and can not be okay. There's no safe place for him because they're afraid to have him at home and he doesn't want to be there because he's afraid of hurting them. I have to say I disagree about story 2, the tutoring story. What the tutor did was wrong, and the essay they wrote for the student absolutely could’ve made the difference! Most people applying for a scholarship like that probably have good grades and extracurriculars. Really, the essay is how you set yourself apart and win over the deciders. Especially for college-related scholarships, they want to make sure that their money isn’t going to be wasted so the quality of the essay can also be used to get an idea of your likelihood of success in school. High quality writing is a skill that they often look for bc it points to either innate talent or the perseverance to build/improve a difficult skill. Submitting an essay that someone else wrote for you displays neither of those things and points to poor academic integrity, which is something that colleges hate. If this were an assignment for a grade then maybe I’d give more grace, but this is for a scholarship competition! Him winning it takes that opportunity away from another kid who actually did the work to write their own essay.

    Twins Story:
OP I'm unsure if you can read this, but you're not alone. This was very similar to my irl situation. Difference being exchange SA in childhood to SA in the late teens to mid twenties and add a stillbirth.
I am the oldest living sibling from my genetic family. Throughout my mother's post-divorce life, I was her emotional rock. My sister was loved and cherished as if she was the golden child, my brother was treated as the baby (outside of being the youngest) and "reacted" the worst of us three despite having the least amount of harm fall on him directly. My mom used various "feminist" cultural items and songs to help her work through her abuse and divorce.
Here is the problem: I was a child throughout this entire period. I was the "ideal male child" in my mom's eyes who would frequently go on tangents about how all men are rapists, racists (she married an Arab man, would make fun of me for my Arab features until I stopped seeing her in person), and the biggest violent plague on our society blah blah. She would end these tangents with "but you're different." Well, the siblings and I are fractured, do not talk often, haven't had a single holiday together since Yule 00' and NYE of 01'. I haven't seen my sister in person for over 10 years, and my brother in over four years. I'm now a mtf single full time mother whose working my shit workout repeating what my mom did and even recently divorced from a physically abusive ex-spouse Trauma dumping and "no one asked" aside, this is the point:
It doesn't matter if you're 9, 19, or 59. You're her child, her burdens are not your own and never your own to work through. You did not ask to be born from a mother whose entire life up to the point of leaving that home was a waking constant nightmare. This was never your fault. You have nothing to apologize for. She is hurting and needs help, but she has no right to take it out on you. Consciously or unconsciously, she made those decisions and didn't communicate with you sooner and in a much more healthier way. This isn't your fault.

That last story, there is definitely things you can do as a parent to prevent behavior like this. It won't always solve the issue but parenting is almost always a factor. I feel for the mom and her other kids but I also feel for the son. Especially if it is a mental disorder it's not like he was born thinking about how to ruin peoples lives. And it's so so frustrating that the system continues to fail in situations like this. I couldn't imagine abandoning a child though. I've had a similar situation with my younger brother. He would act very inappropriate towards me and some other kids as well. He also has threatened me with violence and even chased me with a knife. He's living with his dad now (I was living at home with my gma, son, and four other brothers at the time but now live on my own) and he just keeps getting worse. (His dad isn't any better). But I know he wasn't always like this and he suffered major trauma from a young age. I can't help but feel if he got help sooner or didn't go through half the things he did, he wouldn't be in the same spot. Love your stuff Rslash! I have been watching you for years now, so I hope that this little bit of criticism won't come off as mean, but the title and thumbnail is a little messed up with the context of the video, don't you think? The mental expectation for something naughty and pornographic kinda takes away from the seriousness of being a victim a little.

  • @wordsmith6154
    @wordsmith6154 Před 6 měsíci +1

I kinda got that second story. I'm a writing tutor myself (except I work with college students) and we want them to succeed, to do things on their own with only a guiding hand. I, too, have felt I gave too much help to a student, but sometimes more than normal is necessary. I don't know how much more OP gave, but there isn’t much that can be done once the kid turns it in.
I also get the further concern that if he turned it in and OP did most of the work, the school is going to expect the kid to be on the same level as the person who wrote the paper. If all he gave was the idea and didn’t write most of it in his own words, then he most likely wouldn't be able to write a paper like that one again. That concern is very valid but, again, you can't really do anything. I just hope he did more work than OP makes it sound.

  • @user-jk5bj6gu3o

Your reflection in the second story isnt shocking since you made a video a year or so ago about someone who lent their essay to a friend for a reference to help with their enterence essay and then that friend instead just handed in OP's paper like it was their own and got a full scholarship from it but OP found out and exposed the friend and the friend had to drop the scholarship duento academic fraud and you were like "who hasn't cheated before? We all remember cheating once in math classnin year 5 from a friend". Glad you really didnt pursue education with that english degree you have if this is your mentality.

Note:) This was kind of written in a rush, so my opinions might change as I think more about the stories.
Story 1:) Op doesn't need to feel bad about this. He was the one that revealed this mess to the family, and ultimately saved his mom (at least from what I saw).
Story 2:) I would probably keep this to myself either way, but, in a moral sense, I guess it depends on how the paper was written. Op could've just put the student's ideas to paper (student couldn't put his thoughts into words), or flat out written it for him. Either way, he got the scholarship, he decides how he uses it.
Story 3:) Honestly mixed on this one. I feel bad for the mother, but I do not completely agree that she was doing whatever she could to cope. Since nothing negative was said about him, I assume she had a decent relationship with the father. I can understand her being more uncomfortable now, with a teenage, older looking, son, but how did she feel so uncomfortable around him as a child? She's biased (with a good reason tbh).
Story 4:) The ex is an idiot for not checking the picture before posting/sending it. That friend/commenter is great, lol.
Story 5:) Kid needs to be set straight NOW. I know op is trying, but she needs to find a way to send him off (facility so something else), or get herself and her other kids the hell out of there, even with potential charges.

  • @catherinehackler8409
    @catherinehackler8409 Před 5 měsíci

For the second story: as someone who prides themselves on ethics, I believe it will even out if need be. Like Rslash said, this kid got an insane scholarship because of his overall deserving performance. And if he really is that bad at writing, he probably chose a path that won’t require writing, and I personally think it’s okay to get to where you need if it won’t come back in the future. If it does, then it will either bite him and cause him to lose the scholarship and even the scale, or he can take the second chance and better himself at writing skills to pay back his debt.

The OP of the 3rd story shouldn't be apologising for lashing out.
His mom regardless of trauma neglected him and didn't seek out therapy, those were just excuses.
If the OPs mom really had this trauma towards a entire gender, then why did she keep her male child when it would obviously hurt her?
Like put the kid up for adoption so he could have parents who actually loved him for who he is and not a half arsed parent who hwted him because of his gender and neglect him for his entire life.
And in the end the OP makes himself out to be the villain and needs to setp up...
He doesn't, she needed too and hopefully she does because what she did is disgusting regardless.

r/slash, I think you whiffed on the scholarship story. For most competitive scholarships, the essay is a major factor. And it is, indeed, competitive, OP cheated someone else out who deserved it on their own. Majorly unethical. If they’re caught, they can be prosecuted for fraud and the friend will be expelled. This is, indeed, a big deal.

Hard agree. I don’t see how other people can just dismiss plagiarism. My little sister won a full ride scholarship based on her grades, admission essay, and interview. The essay was the biggest factor because it determined who would move on to the interview phase.
