but what is comedy when the world is on fire

  • Come with me on a little walk past some favorite comedy clubs through a rainy New York morning. I talk a lot on this channel about the reasons why people usually turn to comedy. Usually, it's a matter of being hungry for catharsis or hungry for distraction. Maybe somewhere in the middle. And lately, I'm not hungry for either. I'm not eager to distract myself or to work through things or even to laugh at all. Right now, I just want to sit in what I'm feeling. Play sad songs, take long walks, bundle up, and just sorta live in it.

This video really did feel sort of like watching a poem. It's the same high quality that I expect from this channel... but in a different way. I am really glad I spent 5 minutes with it, and I think its message is going to sick with me a lot longer than that.

I am fortunate enough to live in one of those areas where our numbers are practically zero and we started doing shows again! Weird thing is that nobody seems interested in making jokes on "current times" there's almost a non-verbal agreement of yea it sucks and squeezing comedy out of it isn't worth it.

Discovered your channel yesterday. One of the best discoveries I've made on youtube. Your insight on this artform is so instructive and inspiring. Please continue to make videos for a long long time. I will watch every single one of them.

I've always felt the truest and genuine things in our short lives are an equal measure of really great and really shitty. A proper balance I think does well to keep most of us grounded. Your sentiments expressed in this video makes perfect sense to me. There is always a time and place for everything and that includes letting your pensive moments roam freely.

You’re really well spoken and seem genuine to the core, just happy you put yourself out there to represent a more articulate feminine ideal on social media. I hope you get popular despite your presumably humble goals

This is a great channel. Clowns have a role to play in reality, but I don't think it's something someone should strive to be, a true clown that is, the archetype. A true clown doesn't have loyalties, they poke at whatever the central authority is, this is where their value comes but is also why the king always wants to cut their heads off. Also, to be a clown means to undermine meaning in the world with constant subversion, which makes the clown numb and "sad." I.g. they joke about everything until life becomes the joke. Nihilism. I think allowing yourself to be sad is perfectly natural and healthy.

I’m a comic and fan from Massachusetts, I actually had my first New York spot in Midtown like a week before everything got shut down. Good times, every since I went from going on stage like 4-5 maybe 6 nights a week to nothing. I just haven’t felt the same either really, I’ve done shows here and there but it never felt the same to me personally. I’m sorry for the monologue, this video was awesome and very relatable, your optimism is greatly appreciated!

Chicago comedy shut down again a few weeks ago and has no clear opening in mind. I can't wait for comedy to come back, but at the same time, I really want to do what's best for slowing the spread of COVID-19.
