He went for $10,000,000 over 9 years, plain and simple. They're paying him $2.5 over 21 and 22. He made the right choice financialy, and I'm certain Sydney was good for his mental health. Sydney on the other hand have got to be questioning their choice.
He missed out on 2 flags, does the money replace the 2 premierships? With 2 under his belt he'll probably cope.

I love how non Hawks fans say this was a bad GF to watch. For a Hawks supporter there was no better 4 quarter effort from a defensive and offensive perspective. As perfect a game as you will ever see in a GF. BACK to BACK as well after all the injuries to players and Clarko, OUTSTANDING ! We are the benchmark of the competatition and that far ahead of the pack it's rediculous ! P.S. Thanks Melbourne for giving us your best defender to replace Lake !

Credit to Hawks they were outstanding but as a neutral this was a horrid grand final, but can only blame Sydney and credit Hawthorn
Well , as a Hawthorn supporter this one takes the cake. They were first to the ball all day , and , with the exception of Franklin , they beat their direct opponents most of the time . The Hawthorn midfield lead by Hodge , Lewis , Mitchell and Langford were on top all day as well . The margin was a surprise for me . I didn't see it coming .

Gratees Collingwood had a 4 peat in like 1927-1930 when there were like 8 teams in the competition, nothing compared to what we did

Gratees Brisbane were an AFL made club in the early 2000's. The Hawks did it the hard way, no big draft picks no help from the AFL nothing just pure Greatness in the 18 team era.

As a hawk fan this was the best thing i have ever seen we were written off by every single person no one gave us a chance to win and what did we do? not only did we become the first team to smash the minor premiers in a grand final by 63 points not only did we become the first team to have 4 players on 30 disposals and more in a grand final but we proved everyone wrong and ripped up the $ydney $wans thats what its all about hawk fans drink it in Back to Back baby what a club the only team to go back to back on to separate occasions how ironic that we went back to back 25 years later aha GO HAWKERS WELL DESERVED

As a fan of neither side I was really disappointed with this GF. Swans didn't even turn up to play, and got thrashed by their biggest losing margin all year. Was hoping for a more even contest.
Hannebury got crunched in the first quarter and Jack was missing for a lot of this match. Parker was also shut down reasonably well. Three of Sydney's mids/small forwards (important ones might I add) missing right there, makes it very difficult for the Swans to do any sort of attacking

Ultimately I'd say it was a fantastic match and there's no better feeling then seeing the excitement on the players faces after a premiership!
Thanks Bruce (McAvaney) but best club of the last 50 years is an understatement. Hawthorn is the most successful club since Essendon won their fifth flag in 1923 ... before they even joined the league (1925). The best team of the last 91 years.

Very disappointed GF didn't live up to the hype.
That's because nobody believed Hawthorn was this good. Not the first time there has been a GF rout. And it won't be the last.
I really wish this game was closer, i'm a Hawthorn supporter though and still thoroughly enjoyed the thrashing, but if it was closer i know would of enjoyed it much more. I think it's brilliant that this game showed that money doesn't always win.

A free kick should have been given when Goodes pushed Lake in the back, 2nd quarter when McGlynn kicked the goal. I guess these things even themselves out.

Hawthorn showed Sydney who was the boss this year. They overcame a tough draw, a few injuries, and they did it was team effort this season. One of the best games I have seen Luke Hodge play.

Fyfe 4 shots on goal for 3 out of bounds on the full and one behind. Some players just cannot handle the pressure of a Grand Final. He cost Fremantle the Flag.

Ok, to all you Hawthorn supporters - great team, great win, great tactics, great skill, brilliant execution. To all my fellow bloods supporters - great team, terrible loss, inflexible tactics, smothered skill due to inflexible tactics and lackluster performances, generally bad execution.
Hawthorn played and were coached brilliantly and always have been and always will be. But it was as much your brilliant performance as it was our terrible performance that resulted in your win and our lose. By saying Hawthorn 'prevented' the bloods from playing properly shows us no respect for the team we are. We give you ALL the respect for the win. At least let us accept we CAN be better and we CAN AT LEAST put up a contest on your best day. I personally think Hawthorn and Sydney are polars in terms of style which ought to call for a fantastic contest, and which also makes the both teams pretty even in a contest.

Football reminds me of the long ball style of play in soccer (just kick the ball upfield and hope a player on your team gets it.) Wouldn't a passing game where you are more likely to keep possesion be better? Also, the game seems kind of messy, but, I'm not an australian so I guess you love what you grow up with. :) Afl is cool regardless
Played on a much longer and wider field than soccer so metres gained is important and the open spaces means trhat players can find themselves with a lot of space upfield. Watching the game live makes a big difference to your understanding as you miss a lot on TV.
That said Hawthorn are masters of the possession game you suggested and it has proven to be effective.
yeah you're right but the better teams, like in soccer, are able to pinpoint short passes through the length of the field and set up a shot on goal

It is hard but a great game too with a long tradition. I did some research today and was surprised at how far back this game goes :) Been watching some other videos too and startedd to really enjoy what I was seeing. Some of the marks are incredible feats :) Would be awesome to see and AFL world cup like in soccer. :)

For me as a supporter since 1971 this was revenge and justice after being beaten by the Swans and Buddy leaving to play against us and having #23 TARNISHED by him. The middle of a Three Peat and we did not know it then. What a team and watching Hodge lead like The General he is.

How can 7 persist in believing Bruce Macavaney isn't just a fawning, gushing never-played-the-game - one who checks with his heroes after half of his comments by adding "isn't he?" and says at least once each quarter "the next goal is going to be important!" ? Well, yes, Bruce, it is: it's called SCORING. No port will be one of the strongest teams in 2014. They are a young side. A lot of talent and new people/coaches are being added to their list. They will definitely make it. But next year will be a very tough season I predict.
