    It's funny watching this. Always brings me back. Growing up with mates who barracked for Essendon and watching them celebrate grand finals. All those years of barracking for a team around the bottom of the ladder and the gut wrench of the team moving to Sydney. Then the sheer fear that was this game. Scared of losing but afraid of the unknown if we won. By the time Leo Barry became a star, i could no longer watch it but was listening to the radio playing in another room. Afterwards went to the lake oval, sat down with my back pressed against the old stand and cried. My father died a few weeks after. Glad he got to see us win one.

    As a Swans Fan from the United States, this was A Marvelous Game of footy and a fantastic game to end the 72 Year Premiership Drought. Hopefully, in a few years, Sydney will once again be a Premiership side with their young talent in Papley, Heeney, Heyward, McCartin, Mills, McInerney, Blakey, and Numerous Others. Anyways, Carn the Swans 🦢 🦢❤️🤍❤️🤍

      @@footynerd358 No, I knew all of the Major cities in Australia including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra, Gold Coast and Adelaide. I chose the Swans because of their young talent and their recent success over the past 25 Years. Also, I have watched clips of The Chaser’s War on Everything and boy are the scenes when random American citizens who are clueless about Australia and the world in general being interviewed are pretty funny.

And there’ll never be one like it. A diamond in the rough. One of the greatest AFL grand final wins of all time. And they’re my team. THE BLOODS!

      Absolutely the greatest grand final of all time! THIS IS FOR THE BLOODS!! That call of “LEO BARRY YOU STAR!” Gives me goose bumps no matter how many times I watch it, I was 19 years old watching that game and the tension was insane and when Leo flew through the pack to take that mark I leapt up off the couch screaming it was so amazing ❤ you’re right there will never be another game like it

  • @mabiorcholappreciationpage

    This as one of the best finals? Bit of a stretch considering that neither team scored more than 60 points and the Leo Barry mark was its only highlight. Plus the fact that most of the game was boring Paul Roos footy

    • @truefunksoul8638
      @truefunksoul8638 Před 3 lety +3

      Great matches don't have to be high scoring shoot-outs. This was a classic, as was the rematch in 2006, and both qualifying finals between the teams, and the home & away match in 2006, and the grand final replay in 2007 round 1.

    • @mabiorcholappreciationpage
      @mabiorcholappreciationpage Před 3 lety

      @@truefunksoul8638 1994 State of Origin is the only game that's both good and low scoring. Just beautiful end-to-end footy with a very high skill level on display. One of the all-time great matches. However, the 2005 Grand Final is the complete opposite of all those things that I listed before. If the '05 Grand Final didn't have the Leo Barry mark at the end, nobody would've remembered this abomination of a football game. Also, the 2006 Grand Final and that 2007 Round 1 game were both very average footy games that happened to finish with a 1 point margin. Eagles vs Swans is easily the most overrated rivalry in VFL/AFL history

    • @mabiorcholappreciationpage
      @mabiorcholappreciationpage Před 3 lety

      @Soussy the entertainment value of a game doesn't revolve around what the scores look like. The football that was on display in the 06 GF and the 07 Round 1 game wasn't really anything special. The only thing any of those Eagles/Swans games from the mid 2000s have going for them is the close finish
