    This really needs an updated video for Version 5 Pro, as it does not address the relationship with Playback Techniques and PlayING Techniques. It is not an easy topic, for sure. I believe that an updated and current tutorial would greatly help users achieve what they are searching for from VSTIs other than Steinberg and other top-selling products. Such instruction could allow more experimental composers to achieve their goals, using less common sound sources, rather than having to get shoe-horned into using the more mainstream products. As a testament to this, I might point a finger at how few user expression maps seem to be available in the forums, et cetera, for less well-known VSTIs.

      We are planning some new videos on playback, expression maps, playback templates etc. If there are templates or maps to download they are generally linked from this page blog.dorico.com/playback-templates/

      I have written to UVI, suggesting they invest some time in developing working Expression Maps for their IRCAM Solo Instruments 2 package. This would be so encouraging to Chamber and Avant-Grade composers, who would find great use for this wide-ranging instrument selection, that is a quite-well implemented ensemble, only lacking easier access for use in Dorico. IRCAM Solo Instruments 2 belongs with a top-notch scoring application, rather than a DAW. It should augment UVI's sales also.@@dorico

    very helpful and also today as I am working expression maps. But what I see is your always using play rather than opus and I suppose you click the cogwheel each time when adding an instrument but the East West Instrument holds the complete section so you don't need to add another instance each time.

    This is a very clearly put together instructional video. I was wondering if you could make your East West Strings map available for others to use. I have this particular library and it would be great not to have to duplicate this work that you have done.

    Finally, I managed to set up and save my eastwest solo violin by following what the video describes. It's easy once you understand the procedures. The longest is to make the correspondence between the articulations of the ESOL bank and the articulation symbols and the game techniques identified by Dorico. It takes a long time for an entire orchestra!
    The ideal would be to pool this work between individuals, because for the moment Soundline Eastwest does not offer anything ... There remains the solution of articulation maps of Cubase that I have not yet really deepened ...
    In any case, Dorico seems very promising for the management of much more complex bank articulations (cinematic studio, etc.).

    One hour of work to program the articulations of the Eastwest symphonicOrchestra solo violin. I usually lack and I discover the tools to do this!
    I managed to make certain articulations work but not all because I did not find them in the Dorico SE windows. On the other hand, the backup of the articulation map is not very clear because I did not find my programming when Dorico SE reopened!
    A more detailed video would be welcome, especially since the manual has not been translated into French to date.

    C'est bien d'avoir fait l'effort de mettre des sous-titres en français même s'il y a quelques fautes, cela aide beaucoup les Frenchies comme moi. Si vous pouviez le faire pour toutes les vidéos ce serait très utile. Merci.
    It's good to have made the effort to put subtitles in French even if there are some mistakes, it helps Frenchies like me a lot. If you could do this for all the videos that would be very helpful. Thank you

    Question here, I see you can add a KeySwitch or a control/program change to expression maps to match different technique markings, but is there any way to add a MIDI Channel change to it? I use Kontakt libraries and I have set up my different playing techniques in different MIDI Channels, that's why.

    very good and clear. Thanks a lot. (But) I could not succeed in mapping "portamento" even I have this sample in VSL and installed the correct keyswitches. A text ("portamento up" or an own creation) does not trigger it and also not the technique symbol (2 notes with a straight line between) shows and plays always glissando.

    so I just saw this today and it's Nov 2023. I have pro 5 on a PC and it doesn't look like your presentation although there were tons of info. A learning curve for sure. Are there any new ones in the hopper? I have been using Notion which was bundled with Studio One Pro. It's alright but this blows it away. plus they haven't made any changes in 3 years .

    I have downloaded all East West register Expression maps library and successfully imported them so I can use full "register Master Key Switch" orchestra now. The problem is, it is not responding as I would like them to. *pizz* is switching into pizzicato while *arco* is doing nothing. How on Earth do I assign those command into actions? Please, someone help. I use Dorico 5 on Win.

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před 10 měsíci

      Arco normally cancels pizz and reverts to the 'natural' technique. Is 'natural' defined in the expression map? It would be easier to help you on the Dorico.com/forum than here, or raise a ticket with support

  • @Zamzambam

    Hello! I wanted to set a trill to a note (solo flute). The expr-map of the HSO solo flute has half and whole note trills in it, but which notation signs correspond to them? If I write the normal trill sign no trill is played at all. There exists a trill for the woodwinds but this doesn´t play a trill sound, too. Where can I find the corresponding signs to the map? And can I edit them?

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před 6 lety +1

      Unfortunately trills don't yet playback, but we aim to add this as soon as we can. The issue is that there are many different ways for midi devices and sample libraries to play back a trill. Sorry for any inconvenience.

    agh, I know this is well documented and explained but I just don't understand... How do I get my instruments to play the EW Hollywood strings that I have. I cannot for the life of me figure this stuff out at all :(

    • @dorico
      @dorico  Před 2 lety +1

      You need to add an instance of the EW player in Play mode and assign/map the relevant Dorico instrument to that player (and the MIDI channel). Also click on the cog wheel and add the correct expression map. If you don't have an expression map already then you'll need to make one or ask on Dorico.com/forum to see if somebody already has one.

  • @adammcdougall7831

    I'm really struggling with this. I created an expression map for Spitfire's Albion ONE strings patch for all the articulations. Dorico recognises the articulations (i.e. spicatto, legato, etc) for Violin 1 but not Violin 2, Viola, Cello or Double Bass. I have checked and it seems all the tracks are set up exactly the same so I don't understand what I can do. It's infuriating.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
