power creep: The weapon
My ikelos has smallbore accurized, and my stats look to be significantly better than yours. You have a single range more, at the cost of 10 stability and 5 handling. Is seraph rounds worth all that? (PvP)
Continuing with my campaign to get Coolguy to retest Killing Wind with 100 mobility and acknowledge that it has no strafe scalar at all. Please read your comments and at least test it, this misinformation is getting ridiculous.
My man it's been busted since day one
Shit in season of the worthy you could fragout even when you had 150 hc and felwinter was at full power
This isn’t power creep. It’s just the symptom of it being the best thing after other nerfs. Pre nerf wrath, pre nerf multimach, half of the year one d2 weapons, all of them would dominate ikelos. The only thing ikelos power creeps is maybe weapons from early beyond light.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s 100% the BEST legendary smg we have at the moment, with tarrabah being the best overall, but to say it is power creep the weapon is absurd. That title is reserved for OG recluse / not-forgotten, and more recently the base stats of hand cannons like exalted truth and rose.
It's a MONSTER
I feel like the ikelos smg has always pretty much been one of the best guns period, honestly. It just has always felt great to use.
My old one had threat detector and surrounded, what a monster!
For real, it never left anyones inventory ever since coming back in season of arrivals. Dummy strong and useful in general
Even when it came out in warmind it just felt sooooo good compared to many of the dogs hit year 1 weapons
We’ve had 3 iterations and all 3 have been meta contenders or outright meta, Only weapon to be viable from Y1 to Y5 lol
I love it but I still preferred the seraph carbine. It looked cooler.
Man, The one announcement I want to hear from Lightfall is crafting updates to let us have multiple perks on a gun. I’m tired of having to make 2 of everything.
they said they were working on that and that it could be a thing this year, hope it is soon
@@fitupan9474 really? That would be awesome. Do you recall where/when? Not doubting you, I want to go read it.
Can’t believe we’ve had weapon crafting for a whole year and they haven’t addressed this issue at all. It’s easily one of of not the most annoying part of crafting considering how expensive these perks are. Hopefully we can unlock perks in Lightfall but nothing is guaranteed
@@kilikopela83 they said it last year, iirc it was when they tuned the crafting economy. they also said that the option to have multiple perks on a crafted weapon was something they thought when making the system but that it was very complicated to integrate in the game
@@seffers4788 they have addressed this issue. Its not as easy as u would think. They said having multiple perks on craftable weapons is hard to code and what not. They talked about it they mentioned master raids giving enhanced perks
Just FYI for PVE something a lot of people miss, but Voltshot kills won’t proc Feeding Frenzy on surrounding enemies if the jolted target you are firing at doesn’t die first. I think people over look this because they likely become amped up making it feel like it is working when it’s not. IMO threat detector is better for the pve roll.
Threat Detector is also better because it doesn't require a kill to work, making it more valuable in harder content where many enemies don't die in a single mag from a primary weapon.
I prefer Threat Detector on because it aiso scales better due to not requiring kills - I'm not necessarily using it in a GM for example but in Heists it makes a difference with red bars taking that little bit more effort.
I'm also thinking ahead with Voltshot having anti champ usage.
There will be a lot of uptime on TD x1 bonuses and they're similar to PM x2.
Only issue I have is reloading at out of range from targets, jolt can hit p far and does a lot of damage even in dmg falloff ranges. Ff will hit on first target kill not aoe I think
Just got my threat detector/ voltshot and small bore. It’s legit AF
8:09 the PvE roll
Wish bungie would just make it so that craftable weapons can have multiple perks in each column. Would save so much vault space
Forget vault space, it would save time and headaches
Should also have perks perma unlocked to save so much resources
They have mentioned that they are working on making it possible but noted how it was more difficult than expected. I can't remember when they said it but I think it was around plunder and haunted
This gun defines what I've wanted from creating. A workhorse weapon. Pve it's pretty much the best legendary smg thanks to voltshot. But in pvp, it's a Stat stick, it's competitive but not over bearing. It's definitely the best 750 legendary. But it's not like it's straight up the best primary. But it is a very strong option.
It’s definitely overbearing. It reaches ridiculous ranges unreachable to the vast majority of SMGs, whilst remaining at a fast TTK. At least Shayura has range but is balanced out by having the lowest TTK.
Feel the same, sits right next to my calus mini tool at all times
@@ironladyerimuth I have a max range rf/tap borrowed time that I’d say is almost equally as good if it wasn’t for the fact ikelos recoil is a laser shots insane feels like every bullet lands
Pretty overbearing my G. I don’t think we’re playing the same destiny 2.
I would truly have never went full range instead of max stability on Xbox without this video. You got me seeing things differently, and also got me seeing the value in higher range over stability. Might not work on other smg but on this one hot dayum it’s amazing now!
As someone who loves 750's I messed with the crafting on this gun for a long time. Personally I wound up liking dynamic sway rangefinder the most, and appreciate that you talked about all the benefits rangefinder is truly giving beyond just range. I will say though that while full bore is definitely still fairly easy to manage even on controller, going with smallbore and accurized instead gives me one less range (71) and 32 stability which to me is more advantageous than the extra 1 range with full bore and the novelty of seraph rounds. Love the deep dive Coolguy!
I'm probably going to do the same since I'm a sucker for not wasting stability (getting it as close but not below the 0 numbers for flinch resist, 5 if I have perletual motion.)
This video was exactly what I was looking for, rangefinder was so confusing but felt really good to me. Thanks for the in depth look!!
Awesome work as always CG! Best in-depth videos around.
I have watched a few videos on this weapon recently, and I can unequivocally say - I trust CoolGuys take more than anyone else's. The attention to detail and your knowledge of how perks actually work is second to none. Thanks CoolGuy!
love your in depth breakdown and reasoning and insight for you picks. Even after years of playing, I feel like I learn something from these vids.
Was just going to go classic DSR/Tap for PvP but I think I'll try Rangefinder out when it gets leveled.
My old Ikelos v2 had feeding frenzy and demo or vorpal with seraph, which is no longer possible and I'm still keeping it, but yeah this seems like total power creep. Amazing weapon though!
Really love the videos. Going in depth on why you choose the rolls you choose is always a really great tool when choosing a weapon roll for myself. I do however, wish there was a TL;DR or summary segment at the end of videos on the "this is the roll I chose for myself for you to try." Sometimes I watch a video once and forget what roll a favorite content creator chose, and I'd like to grab a quick screenshot as a starting point to craft my own. I usually either watch or scrub through the video again (not the worst thing in the world) to try to find it and sometimes even miss it then by getting caught up in the details. May just be me though. Keep up the awesome work!
Love this thing. Thanks for the quality content Mr Cool Guy.
Just wanted to take time to say thanks for the vids man
I took a break this season but it's good to know I can still come to this channel for weapon roll info
I was a bit conflicted on how to craft this thing. I was waiting for this video. You can always trust a CG recommendation. Only difference, I went with dynamic swag. Im addicted to this perk and have been for years.. i need an intervention.
Just finished my red borders for this one today :D looking forward to playing around with it. I love that Killing Wind is good on it. I've always liked that perk.
Changing my crafted roll based on the video. Consistently good content as usual 👏👏👏
Coolguy doesn’t have time to waste.
He can’t waste time.
I have a v2 with DSR and TTT and it was my go-to back-up weapon incredible for ages. It found the head easily and it could melt people before they got into shotgun range. This version looks even better.
Thanks for the tips on this smg, tap the trigger/dynamic sway for pvp feel great for me
I never really thought to do another one. I really should just start crafting one of each. Thanks for the tip
I crafted dynamic sway rangefinder but was really torn between that and killing wind rangefinder. I think you might've swayed me, good sir. Great video, as always.
U should try dynamic sway and tap the trigger, fuckin lazer beam
@@thelowquat27 I thought It’d be a good perk combo too, but like CoolGuy is saying, enhanced Tap the Trigger gives you enough time to net a kill, so then what’s the point of Dynamic. I guess in the occasional moment when there’s 2 enemies in front of you and you need more trigger hold time.
I went from 47 range all the way up to 72, and I swear it’s still a laser beam. Thanks for walking me through it, I was missing out on free range!
Just got my final red border for crafting last night. Perfect timing on the video.
I've been using Full Bore + Accurized + S2L enh + Rangefinder enh. Lately, I have been debating on swapping the S2L enh (+7 range) for Killing Wind. With S2L you get 24.6m before fall off, but with Killing Wind, you go from 24m to 26.7m after a kill. I have a hard time with wanting to take Seraph Rounds because you're losing almost a full meter of fall off (I think the math is -.94 compared to Accurized) and sometimes, at least in my anecdotal experience, that extra meter can make the difference in a fight.
Well made video, for sure! This might help with making that decision. 😅
Crazy to think how good the stats on this thing are given that most stats took a hit some time ago
I missed out on most of this season and have been grinding like a mad man to make absolutely sure I have this before Feb 28
Thanks for gettin nerdy with it buddy
Nobody really has an excuse for not getting all the red borders with the daily deepsight
If you don't have all the necessary helm upgrades you can't get daily deep sights.
I’ve had Dynamic/TT since Season of Arrivals. I’ve loved it and finally dismantled for my crafted one 😁
The DARCI jump shot.
He's *the* guy.
I crafted 3. 2 for pvp and 1 pve. Dynamic sway tap trigger on one. Perp motion rangefinder on the other. Dynamic away tap the trigger is my favorite because the accuracy when u fight is insane and it's not even fair
I have crafted my PVE version, and love it. Haven’t gotten resources for the second one yet…😂. I hade one drop with small bore, seraph, perpetual, rangefinder… and it’s awesome in PVP, just feels great.
Great video, cool guy.
I am usually doing some form of swapping shenanigans so i crafter mine with threat detector, rangefinder, smallbore, accurized. Especially paired with witherhoard during iron banner, it was putting in work.
Happy birthday! 😊🎉
I crafted 2 BXRs, both for PvE because I had two great PvP rolls of the old version already. Great weapon. Working on my second Ikelos. I've crafted 2 of a number of guns but never did get to that second Brigand's Law.
First Ikelos SMG I focused this season was a Feeding Frenzy and Pugilist/Voltshot... this thing got me thru all the content I could do solo, it was amazing! Crafted one with enhanced perks when I could... I'm gonna try the Killing Wind and Range Finder combo for PvP, my only problem is that I really don't like kinetic weapons in PvP... so my energy slot is almost always taken by my Pulse Rifle and I use a Pizzicato-22 SMG in the kinetic...
Coolguy really enjoying that airborne heavy snipers buff
That jump snipe at 2:19 was slickkkkkkkkk
I still run the classic combo of Tap The Trigger and Dynamic Sway Reduction, both enhanced, leads to incredibly silly dueling potential in its range. I've literally lost headshots cuz my hand was trying to compensate for recoil that was just not there.
Keep up the good work
Exactly what I thought about this weapon. I crafted two of them, PvP and PvE. But I think I am going to change my Treat for Feeding Frenzy.
Having tried both enhanced rangefinder and enhanced TTT, I have to cast my vote to TTT. That with dynamic sway completely makes up for that range loss from not running rangefinder. I've found head shots hit more consistently at fall off with that extra accuracy. If you have 100% accuracy and never miss a shot then you should definitely just run rangefinder and call it a day.
To help those in a similar headspace make the decision, if you feel like you're capable of managing engagements without that extra distance then it doesn't matter. Go with TTT. If you feel like you tend to challenge those longer distances, go with TTT anyway. Take a mental note of the headshots vs bodyshots you hit, then switch to rangefinder and give it an honest comparison. I promise you it's worth it to farm out ascendant alloys to test it out. It's seriously something you have to feel out for yourself.
Enhanced TTT goes the distance here because hitting a headshot will always do more damage than a body shot even at falloff. Then when the rest of the game happens within 21ish meters you'll out duel everything under the sun.
I also prefer TTT because I'm typically not engaging at this 23-24m mark with an SMG, but I do like Killing Wind on it, primarily for the strafe scaler.
I find that if Dynamic Sway kicks in I'm probably losing that engagement anyway.
I may be approaching it wrong but I think of SMGs as slightly longer range Sidearms - I'm not trying to make an SMG into a Rapid Fire AR, I'm happy as long as I can comfortably engage at around 21m
I may replicate my V2 with full bore, flared, dynamic and demo because it was a beast in its day. One of these days I may have to delete it....
@@chipsawdust5816 they removed Demo
thanks dood guy
I was so excited when this gun was craftable. I have 30k kills on an old dynamic sway demo roll. I have the classic FF voltshot roll for PVE and I went with dynamic and rangefinder for PvP
that jumpsnipe with Darci at 2:20 was diabolical. Someone needs to do something about Coolguy lol
As someone who has maimed the Ikelos SMG since it’s introduction I have been rocking a roll that most people scoff at but it’s highly slept on. Range MW, Extended Barrel for Range/Maxes out RR, Seraph Rounds, Enhanced KW with Frenzy. Yes I know we have Range Finder or TTT but you honestly don’t lose too much range and once Frenzy procs this weapon absolutely shreds. Highly recommend this roll to anyone that wants to try something a little off meta but catch a lot of players off guard. I still have a second crafted roll with the God Roll but I keep gravitating back to my KW & Frenzy roll.
I swear ikelos smg has been one of the best weapons that survives every single season ever since it came back in season of arrivals 😂
What's funny is it's not even really power creep, it's always been a stat monster even as far back as the initial v1 Warmind iteration, in fact I think it even got a stat nerf from where it was before if I remember right and it's still one of the best 750 SMGs we have.
Only takes a little over an hour to fully level using In The Deep mission from Cryptoglyth checkpoint, so definitely worth crafting a couple even for PvE only.
I use dynamic sway and opening shot. It covers the beginning stability and sway carries it the rest of the way provided you land your shots
I've been using the ikelos smg since arrivals. it's been my favorite SMG in the entire game
GGs nice seeing you on console lobbies. I couldn’t react to it unless I saw you first. Fine I’ll make two lol
Thank you Mr Cook guy
Would like to point out Killing Wind has been tested and does not have a strafe speed modifier like Moving Target or Elemental Capacitor. The strafe speed is coming entirely from the mobility bonus, meaning that it will have little to no effect on Hunters who tend to run high mobility.
I have an Ikelos SMG from Season of Arrivals, and it is so easy to land shots. It has 64 range, with its damage falloff starting around 20 meters. The perks are Dynamic Sway Reduction, and Vorpal Weapon. I'm actually a huge Vorpal Weapon fan for PvP, and have actually taken some supers down with this gun. Will definitely craft a Voltshot roll for PvE, but not sure I would take Rangefinder over Vorpal Weapon (which can't be crafted on the new version).
Overall a very solid gun, and has been a favorite since it dropped in Season of Arrivals.
:20 'Ho Chi Minh stands with the Iron Wolves'
Lol
First thing craft I did this season. This thing SHREDS!
They somehow made this version better than the v2 god roll with the old seraph rounds…. Crazy stuff!!Considering the changes they made to fall off vs range on smgs there’s literally no reason to go for full bore over hammer forged/extended barrel.
2:21 AE buff coming in huge
I hoped into rumble after a year and holy shit its just hold forward titan smg city
A great weapon but it's so easy to level from level 1 with FF and Frenzy available
Honestly that felt so nice for a change, i hate being stuck with bad perk combos while i level a gun to get the enhanced craft
didn’t want to craft multiple so i just went with full bore, seraph rounds, killing wind, voltshot, and range mw, it’s insane in both pvp and pve
I’ve been using Antiope D right from collections and it’s been great ! 17 zoom on that baby 😎
thanks!
The thing with different zoom levels on rangefinder vs not rangefinder, is that no, it does not add Stability, not even a hidden value of it. Even if it did do that, that Stability is still countered pretty handily by the increase in zoom. An increase in zoom gives the perception of having more recoil and more flinch. This is why a high FOV setting has the perception of adding Stability and reducing flinch, because more FOV means less zoom. So if you want a more stable feeling gun, don't use rangefinder.
Another thing that was missed on the topic of zoom, which I think is pretty important, and I've never heard anyone mention before, is that the zoom level affects Aim-Down-Sights sensitivity. This is easily testable, just use a sniper rifle and a sidearm, spin in a 360 circle while ADS and measure the time it takes to complete the full 360 with each gun. Or 2 Ikelos, one with rf and one without rf. Higher zoom level lowers ADS look sensitivity. So if you want the most consistent experience possible, do not use rangefinder because your ADS sensitivity will be inconsistent with you non-rangefinder PvE Ikelos, and you'll get the perception of having less Stability and more flinch.
Had the threat detector/voltshot crafted as I thought threat might be best but after a lot of gameplay I moved to ff. Massive difference in consistency as I can easily keep it going even when enemies are at a distance. Voltshot is amazing but can nulify threat detector
You know I'm glad that this smg is still good. I've always liked sights that are clean but frame the target nicely while letting you see around the target. This smg, Chaperone. The exotic scouts are like that I think. It honestly helps me track compared to weapons without that. I've come to the conclusion that is why it takes so much effort to get better at HC's for me and why it feels off using full auto or semi with a really open sight. I also think that's why I took to Forerunner so quickly despite it being almost just like a hand cannon. That's the only thing that makes sense 😂
GUY, YOU'RE SO COOOOL
Shoot, I might have to go back and re craft my PvP roll a bit 😅
You can turn in engrams at the helm for ikelos weapons even if you don't have the season btw (even deepsight)
DSR works so well with the origin trait, I grinded the shit outta the red borders, I've had Full Bore, Accurized DSR and RF since the first day I crafted it
Blood feud is so underrated for aggressive frames. May not have the big range, but put swash on it with arc titan and profit
12:15 the only way to get over 79 range is by using enhanced shoot to loot for the +5 range. You have a range masterwork, so the stat bump doesn’t apply to range.
Have have everything the same except I went to enhance perpetual motion. It is the best perk for my playing style.
I appreciate what rangefinder does on paper, I really do, but the bottom line is that with this gun and with most 140 HCs- the added zoom throws off my aim. I tried it while leveling and I just didn't like the feel of the high zoom. This is amplified by the fact that I'm using the voltshot roll in pve and building muscle memory with that. Even if the gun is more generous on paper with rangefinder, if I land less of my shots, I'm going to go with Tap The Trigger instead. Either way, the gun is amazing. It's actually going to replace my Sayura's on hunter and warlock for GL play I think.
I love this weapon. I loved v2 as well. It used to be, in my eyes, second only to Riskrunner. I still love Riskrunner, but the IKELOS SMG is aces.
Onya man
My go to is full bore, seraph, DSR and TTT
gun so nice, we craft it twice!
For my PvE roll, I chose perp motion over feeding frenzy. In higher level PvE like GMs, feeding frenzy doesn't work as well as you won't be getting as many kills. Perp motion gives me a decent bump to reload, handling and stability (I play on controller so that stability is nice for shooting at longer range)
If you're using feeding frenzy on an arc hunter with that one aspect that gives a lot of reload speed while amplified, feeding frenzy is completely wasted as reload caps at 100. I'll probably be running more reload speed mods on my arms come Lightfall as we no longer have to spec into champ mods
I believe the crafted weapon works like adept masterworking, where the chosen stat doesn't get +2, just the ancillary stats.
So if anyone opts for everything the same but with Accurized instead of Seraph Rounds, I don't think it'll get to 81 range
Ugh, I'm relatively new to this Destiny 2 expansion, and I'm worried about running out of time on unlocking this pattern. I still haven't gotten one of these, so I haven't been able to focus any yet. I've been trying to do the Enhanced Resonance Amp, and the submachine gun is the only one I haven't gotten. I'd really like to try this thing out!
The irony of you repeating yourself talking about how you can't waste time made me smile 😂
Thanks for the review
I’ll never give in, I like my The Title
That snipe at 2:22 is filthy
Finally got my fifth pattern yesterday lol
Coolguy makes the best weapon review videos! Love these deepdives....and the windows calculator was 🤌
Used it for my solo dungeon run today. It’s amazing how good it is for ad clear. Need to drop threat detector for feeding frenzy though. Love the gun. Sounds good. Feels good. A favorite.
I have despised this archetype since cold front, avoided it like the Plague. Started buying red borders mainly for a different PvE volt shot option. Figured I could always craft a crucible roll when I wanted a change of pace to play around with. The 5th red border I bought came with full bore, tac mag, dynamic sway, tap the trigger, and a handling masterwork. Surprisingly it felt great in crucible testing. It isn't even a 5/5 abd can get better. I definitely will craft a crucible roll as well after initial testing.
Guess I'm going to try out max range roll just to see, hopefully I can control it.
I run extended barrel, seraph rounds, dynamic, tap the trigger, range masterwork (I'm on controller). It shreds in PvP
I went threat detector voltshot because it doesn't require a kill, and on beefier targets you aren't always getting the kill. This gun is better than most exotics.
That's definitely the way to go over feeding frenzy... In high level content, FF isn't the most consistent perk
for pve i tested all combinations. it lead me back to the demo subsistence one i had
Hey I'm in this video!! I'm Shelby in the shores clips 😂
I just wanna ask, isnt hammer + accurized more range and stability than full-bore and seraph rounds? I know seraph still gives ricco and piercing.
They actually made the 6 percent to be 10%. MIDA Mini-Tool gets a MASSIVE buff thanks to this now at 17.1 meters ADS
I need to get this weapon crafted, I’ve got an Out of Bounds with heating up/golden tri corn which does really well in PvE
You can buy 1 red border each day, if unlocked focusing
@@overbe cool, thank you for the heads up
