A song with so much emotion this generation now need to know what kind of result ww1 made at history. So much respect for the British and anzac forces in ww1.
What a great sound!! Played in string bands many years ago and this group is absolutely the best. Brings back such wonderful memories. Thank you and I'm so glad I found you on youtube. Its a daily ritual to listen to you now. Your orchestration is superb!! Love the combination of banjos, saxes, bases, accordions and percussion. Thanks for providing such wonderful entertainment. Hope to be able to see you perform in person one day!! God bless and keep on strutting. You deserve to be #1!!!
I think that’s a typo, the author was Jack JUDGE. He definitely was from Oldbury, not far from me. But maybe had a connection up North also. The song itself was made famous when British soldiers were disembarking from boats in France, and heading to the front lines of WW1. The regiment the Connaught Rangers, was reported singing this song in the Daily Mail newspaper and as they say. The rest is history!
Folks... Here is REAL Music. Just think, How often do you hear Great American music like this any more. These guys are so outstanding I have no words. Many thanks from a American who loves you all. May God Bless, Jim
Written in England, by an English man, and popularised as a marching song in the British Army. You might as well claim the Marseillaise as “Great American music”.
I'm 77 years old. And I've got a tear in my eye! What a beautiful sound.
If you ever need cheering up, this amazing guys are just the ticket 😢

There is a statue of Jack Iudge, who wrote this song, in Stalybridgw, Greater Manchester.
I thought the writer came from Oldbury West Midlands?
