@jeannebrock1900 I'm from Philadelphia, and here's why. Every New Year's Day officially since 1901, we have what's called the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia. It starts on 9am and goes to about 5 pm. Then everyone goes to 2 Street for the party afterwards. There's four (4) divisions in the parade and these guys are the musicians and part of the String Band division. The entire band dresses in elaborate costumes and perform for the judges at City Hall. There are about 15 different string bands who compete for money and bragging rights for the entire year. My cousins are members of the Woodland String Band and my brother is a member of the Comic division. Everyone involved are amateurs and just everyday people. Come to Philly and see it live on New Year's Day for yourself. Or look at videos of past parades. Ferko String Band 1989 is a total classic Philadelphia routine. The 1999 Quaker City performance is one of my favorites. Hope this helps and greetings from Philadelphia. GO BIRDS 💚🦅🏈 and GO PHILS ❤️⚾️🤍
@@bobmcdermott9535 He's the drill master. He's responsible for telling the entire band when to start and stop marching, when to start and stop playing, and generally controls the flow of things during any parade. He may have other roles in the organization, but he's basically the one in charge during a parade so that the captain can interact with the crowd and entertain people.
If you're having a blue day, check in with these guys! The spirit is outdone only by the great costumes.
Not to mention the Captain's .Mummer's Strutt.😊
