Across universities in the United States a battle is raging over freedom of speech. At Columbia University two pro-Palestinian groups have been banned for holding unauthorised protests about Gaza, a move members say is about shutting down any criticism of Israel.
Amidst allegations of intimidation, antisemitism and Islamophobia, reporter Kiran Moodley follows a Palestinian student and Jewish-American student to see if he can find common ground.

One poll/survey from November 2023: "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also faced disapproval, with 73% of respondents expressing dissatisfaction with his performance."
However, there's also the saying "nothing unites like a common enemy" and that was shown to be the case with Arab Israelis and Jewish Israelis after October 7 (not for all but unity increased).
This is true for any and every country during war and its roots are in evolutionary psychology because of fight or flight, life or death, and community and societal preservation and uniting over shared values and national identity. 😮
One protest against the government last year had 200,000 attendees. There have been protests against Netanyahu all throughout this war. He won the 2022 election by less than 1% of the vote. Yes, people are hypocrites when they won't condemn Muslims & Islamic countries for beheading journalists, flogging bloggers, issuing fatwas against critics, throwing gay men off rooftops, female genital mutilation, throwing acid in women's faces, prohibiting women from driving, moving freely about, or getting an education, & countless others ways they oppress non-Muslims, & women & gay people. Theocracies are not good places to live if you are not a member of that religion. It's interesting that people who claim to be pro-Democracy & progressive want to see Israel, the only Democratic, progressive country in the Middle East, wiped off the map, while they support brutal Islamic theocracies or kingdoms where minorities & women have no human rights. Why aren't all these women protesting wearing burkas? They support a religion that, once gaining control of a state, forces women to wear black from head to toe in the scorching sun. Tell you what... Go protest or march for gay rights in Iran & see how long you last. Yes, if you chant, "From the river to the sea," you are supporting the genocide of Jews throughout the Middle East. Israel is the only place where Jews, Christians, & Muslims live side by side w/ equal rights & in peace. Arabs in Israel can vote & they hold offices in the legislative branch & the Judiciary. And you want to destroy them. That's what "From the river to the sea" means. No Israel. So, yes, you are anti-Semitic. And don't ever call yourself progressive, pro-woman, pro-human rights, or pro-Democracy. [ETA: One thing you CAN say you are is pro-terrorism because October 7 was a terrorist attack on Israeli women & children, which was like Timothy McVeigh bombing the building in Oklahoma City or like the ISLAMIC terrorists who murdered innocent people on 9/11/2001. Hamas is a terrorist organization who have stated that their goal is to destroy Israel. They are not interested in peace, a 2-state solution (they've refused repeated offers), negotiations, or ceasefires (they've broken those again & again). Their goal is to terrorize & kill all the Jews in the Middle East. Do you think suicide bombers & fanatics who fly planes into buildings would hesitate to use Palestinian people as their human shields so they can launch rockets on Israel under the protection of being located in a hospital or a school? Do you think that religious fanatics who believe they will be rewarded in the afterlife for killing Jews, and who killed Muslims & people from Arab countries who were in the World Trade Center on 9/11 care about the Palestinians either? You are pro-terrorism when you support Hamas. Israel wants to stop Hamas, not commit genocide on all Palestinians. Hamas is killing Palestinians by using them as human shields in their single-minded quest to rid the Middle East of Jews.]

The reporter seems biased and asks leading questions that seem to have obvious answers.
For the students, you need to face your studies and not meddle into what you do not really understand. If you need purpose in life, relocate to Sudan or Somalia or Yemen and you'll find millions who need your 'voice and passion for humanity'. In this case though 1,000+ citizens of one single country were brutally killed and it was televised. What you think doesn't matter to be honest. After September 11, the US didn't really care about what anyone thought. They crossed borders and went into Iraq and Afghanistan. Number of civilian deaths in the thousands? Number of aid workers and reporters killed? Well do the maths and consider if you're being hypocritical in this current case.
Imagine if all voices condemned Hamas since October 8? Would thousands of civilians not be spared today? But by wasting time criticizing a Government for being responsible for its citizens' lives, you are emboldening Hamas and not going to (ever) achieve anything with Israel because they are more than justified in their response.

This situation is terrible but the reality is that when you mix two different cultures/religions with different worldviews then you're going to bring conflict one way or the other without a permanent peaceful resolution. The only realistic way to resolve this is for the complete capitulation of one side, that's how wars and conflicts usually resolve themselves whether you like it or not. So either Israel loses (which in terms of military strength is very unlikely to happen if you're going with loss on the battlefield) or Gaza falls completely under Israeli control, that's it

However, the Muslim people have their fair claim as well for having inhabited the region for a longer period of time after the fact. The fact is, that the Israeli Arabs living in Israel (ie not those living in Gaza, not those living in West Bank) live happy lives, generally, and does not want a Palestine to live in. The terrorists target EVERYBODY - women, children, all kinds of reiligions, ethnicities, races - they don't care, because intifada is about terror and chaos, at least that what it was in Israel in these times. When you get out of the nice theories, terminology and books, and come into the reality - it is not so nice anymore. The ones shouting to globalize the intifada are either stupid, don't know what it means in reality, or simply do not care about humanity at all. I'd like to see British News companies covering news in Britain for once.

Protests blocked an ambulance with a sick child that ended up dying but that’s okay

I wonder if these protests are only on prestigious campuses. Other colleges might have better control when protests get out of hand and students end up threatened.

As someone who goes to a community college in NYC. I can say this is mainly on the Ivy League level. We had a small protest at Borough Manhattan Community College with couple of students showing up, but nothing this huge as Columbia University . Keep in mind my college is the biggest community college in the city, but I'll will whats happening in Gaza had made politics kinda uneasy on campus.

The larger the college the more heated it gets, draws in news cameras becomes a public issue makes it to national news networks, protests grow bigger due to having a larger platform.

The Gulf Petrol monarchies donate heavily to elite US universities, esp Middle East Studies departments. They are determined to spread their 7th century barbarism and Islamo-fascists cult across the globe.
