Moving to San Antonio in about 3 weeks from Germany. Been to SA a few times and just love what the city has to offer. Downtown is beautiful, thank God not too many high rise buildings yet . Not just downtown there's so much to see around SA from huge lakes , hill country, Corpus Christi just 2 hrs away. Austin is great too .
Why would you even consider going to CC, known as a backwater town? It's a holy roller town, lots of hard core Xtians. If you're thinking about enjoying the beach, you've got to go straight down further south, about a 2 hour drive to South Padre Island.
I've seen a surprisingly high amount of Germans downtown, is there something specific that draws you to San Antonio, like maybe a German movie or travel show, or is it just a coincidence?
@@benbowland it was coincidence. My wife is from SA . Years back I didn't know nothing about SA but after my first visit in 2019 I've realized how much German culture there is. I love this city. Moved here in November 2021.
Welcome to SA, we have a lot of German influence in the SA metro area due to 1800 German settlers.

Depends what you want. I lived in Austin but dig San Antonio too. If you’re from NYC you’d be more at home in Austin. It’s much more vibrant than San Antonio. Both have their ups and downs of course.
Left Austin in 2001 and moved to SA. BEST decision ever!

Awful weather, construction is never ending, and no great environmental scenery.
If you’re looking to save money and don’t care for a boring life, I’d say San Antonio is the place. 😭

I get out the Navy in 2024, and don’t know which one of these cities I want to move to afterwards. I’m leaning on San Antonio due to houses being cheaper. I’d love contact info though! As well as projections on how these two markets are gonna look in 2 years(I want to buy a house BEFORE I get out)

I would choose San Antonio. I too served in the Navy and did my apprentice training at Lackland Air Force Base. I was a mess management specialist aka cook and our class had Airmen from the Air National Guard. I was in San Antonio for like four months. I was there from like December to March. After leaving bootcamp in Chicago in early December I was ready to come south. I think San Antonio is a good city for veterans for sure.
This one is simple: San Antonio. You are still in striking distance of Austin…I go there all the time. You get the best of both worlds. Plus you are only one hour from the wineries in the Hill Country.
Austin is to white for me. It lacks culture. San Antonio just seems much more diverse,

I like and appreciate all of your videos. I have been planning to move to San Antonio from San Diego quite some time. I like the people, the city, and the overall area. I was planning to move there the first of October, but I'm not sure. It's a toss up between there and Tucson, AZ. I'm originally from the Southwest (Albuquerque, NM), and Tucson is more within my comfort zone. However, San Antonio and Texas overall has a stronger economy (even though prices are rising). Even though it doesn't have mountains, I love the greenery, culture, history, and down-to-Earth vibe of San Antonio. I'm torn and don't know what to do. 😬

San antonio is only 2 hrs from Corpus - that's a day trip for me. Also close to Mexico. Only 2 1/2 hrs from Houston.
We are moving to San Antonio as soon as my husband has a job. We have never been to Texas before! We will be moving from rural northern utah, we would like to stay more rural but close enough to commute for work. Any recommendations?

You don't necessarily need to choose one or the other! I went to school at Texas State University and LOVED it because San Marcos is just a short drive to both Austin and San Antonio. Living in a central suburb means you're near the middle of what basically is a 5-million-population city. Put a tiny TV antenna in your attic and pick up around 100 stations from the two markets free. I enjoy barbecue and football games in Austin and Mexican food and basketball games in San Antonio. Can't beat it!
You make great points on both but you left out a few like San Antonio has the only handicap theme park in the world where every ride is handicapped friendly San Antonio is connecting all the major parks around the city where you can hop on a bike or run literally run around the city if you have that much energy but it reaches all around and reconnects and there is a large German culture history which plays a large role in San Antonio in the North Central and south side of Downtown San Antonio you have the King William's district some homes backyards connect to the Riverwalk as well going north immediately of San Antonio you have the Monticello district then then you have Central North you have the almost Park district that is also German influenced all these areas I mentioned have very unique European style or plantation style mansions having huge front porch fire lantern style lamps with a few modern eclectic architecture coming up in recent years, the same style of large pillar homes that were mentioned from the Dallas area and some from Austin but you fail to mention these areas in San Antonio and I originally migrating from Chicago these homes would easily start around two and a half to 3 million but in San Antonio these same homes start at about 3/4 of a million . I too moved from Austin after Chicago and it was probably the best move I did, the homeless population is so overwhelming ln Austin, you can't even stop at the light without some panhandler begging at every stop it is ridiculous and the tents are everywhere it is a beautiful city but San Antonio I believe it's more complete to have everything that you need without the hellacious traffic as well. So thanks again so much for putting up this video you did a wonderful job and as well I applaud all your efforts for taking the time. Oh and before I forget what I love that no one mentions is having two loops around the city and several arteries connecting them so you can get to where you need to go much faster you have the inner loop 410 and the outer loop 1604 and soon to be a third loop 46 that has begun in the northwest to Northeast it is growing phenomenally fast according to a woman I know that works with the bexar county district she says they cannot stop the growth so they're working on creating the third loop and the several arteries beginning with 151 going towards SeaWorld then you have IH 10 , highway 281, IH-35 going to Austin and IH-37 South going to corpus Christi. All of these arteries connect both loops which makes it much easier during traffic which traffic here thanks to those arteries and loops we don't have the problem that Austin or Chicago has. Oh and to the guy that just moved here from Germany welcome to San Antonio glad to have you I understand one reason why you would move to San Antonio out of the other Texas cities is we are the only European or kind of close to a European downtown without all the skyscrapers but the nice architecture on the old buildings I love them also not to mention we were the first city in the country to have air condition on five buildings downtown before any other city in the country just some little random fun fact. By the way if you love New York style pizza there's a family from New York that has a place off of Broadway and if you're a regular they kind of talk a little rough at least I know when I used to go back 15 to 20 years ago I know they're still there cuz I passed by there occasionally but they are die hard New Yorkers and pizza is simple but different from your local pizza places. Now if you want some deep dish Chicago style you probably already seen it by now off of 410 and Blanco is a place called Wrigley's he too also moved here because of the economy and he said it was the best move he made he's doing great with his Chicago style establishment.
DONT FORGET AUSTIN AND THEIR HOMELESS. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN COMMUNITY . HOMELESS PROBLEM IS CRAZY

Don't forget Austin also has Tesla, Facebook, Apple, Samsung and is a tech hub. San Antonio feels so small town.
Crazy as in it's as bad as San Diego/LA/San Fran? Or bad for Texas? (Looking to move from SD to Austin or San Antonio and homeless issue is one of the reasons)
@@ellierdh5556 it’s really only bad for Texas. It doesn’t nearly compare to LA/San Fran, as Austin just put in some new propositions banning the homeless from public areas.
We have a homeless issues too. We have abandoned buildings where they stay, and lots of green space where they can be hidden. And not getting better. GL

You left out that SA has an amazing zoo and Austin doesn't 10:49. As far as jobs go, how could you forget Toyota in SA?? They employee thousands.
Austin is a much nicer and more diverse city than San Antonio. San Antonio is lovely but there isn't much to do, no outdoorsy types like you see in Austin. I live in SA but wish I had chosen Austin to live in. The downsides to Austin though are home/rent prices and the homeless problem is much worse there. San Antonio is a very beautiful city, it's just lacking in sophistication and bountiful entertainment. We do have our Spurs, which is great. Also, education is good in both cities but best in Austin. Our food is better though!
I very much agree with you with the homeless problem it's beyond a problem as a matter of fact that's one of the main problems I left from there you can't stop at any light or three or four will approach you that's one thing I can say about San Antonio where they build highway clover leaves they build an array of trees and palms like a little Forest and the bums had recently tried to hide in those little Islands and the city of San Antonio is kicking him out and trimming everything to where you can see if they're building any tents like Austin San Antonio was probably the best move I've ever made as others have put it that have moved here from other places it's a hidden gem they wish other people wouldn't move here anymore.but funny thing is I moved from Chicago to Austin and even though Austin is nice it is nicer in San Antonio and much more spread out and besides the theme parks you do have the outskirts of New Braunfels which was base to the first Schlitterbahn water Park not to mention the frio the Guadalupe River and the Medina River supply enough water entertainment and the lakes surrounding the only thing I remember that was water that was centralized was the Red River which is not river Beach orientated. It's funny how San Antonio has been growing and it's a lot more diverse it is growing naked neck with Austin but publications are not telling you that they try to say that a lot of the refugees are moving to San Antonio and the population has gotten higher with Hispanic people which is not true there's been a growth of about 18% of the Anglo community and a lot of the Hispanic community is leaving, I don't know who is Palm Pressing in the back room with the census bureau but moving from Austin to San Antonio there is been a huge difference just within the last 4 years. Another thing I noticed is it's strange how when I read the things that are written between Austin and San Antonio only negative stuff shows up about San Antonio and Austin gets to praise they just mentioned the great things Austin has but not the great things beyond the Alamo that San Antonio has. Within the last 4 years I've seen car license plates from all over United States it is crazy since I moved here from Austin. I've seen U-Hauls and plates from California New York North Dakota South Dakota Iowa Montana Illinois Michigan Idaho Navada Georgia Maryland Ohio and Lord so many Florida plates it honestly seems there is a huge convention for Floridians.

No. I grew up in SA. In all of Texas, if you need a medically advised abortion, you can’t get one unless your life is in danger, and maybe not even then, as providers are few and far between, and they risk prosecution of a felony. You are putting your life in jeopardy, in addition to your autonomy over all your reproductive decisions. Leave the entire state to the male right wing politicians and southern white Christians.

Pretty much nailed it as far as the comparison of both of these great cities goes. Being a local Austinite, I would say the Mexican food scene up here can definitely compete with San Antonio's. In my opinion, the authenticity of the Mexican dish (plato) is better up here in Austin. I guarantee it! To be clear, when I say Mexican dish, I am not talking about the typical Tex-Mex dish.
Neither San Diego is way better the problem is America has horrible housing programs

I'm sorry as I mentioned before moving from Chicago I heard these good things about Austin and the Austin low crime is another myth like I mentioned before I do not know how they get away with manipulating these false narratives because that is another reason I left Austin. Okay well let's look at it from a different perspective, will just start with that one point. Statistics will show that anywhere there is a larger homeless population then that leads to more drug use to get a feel good mentality to make up for their circumstances because of the lack of funds to resupply their feening this leads to theft and crime not by choice but for need do you understand how clear this picture is but now what I did enjoy in Austin was the nightlife The nightlife is much better in Austin no doubt about it but I quickly learned this gets old and it gets very costly and luckily it didn't get me into trouble but lots of people I knew got in trouble living in a city just for its nightlife and by no means am I trying to convince anyone to live my life but if you want to live a sensible life I very reluctantly considered San Antonio because they are very collected on advertising itself as a city with all its options well at least when I was looking for another city then which at the time was Austin I was trying to leave but now I am very happy for my move oh and I feel to mention in Austin's defense Austin was a much higher paying City but San Antonio just now the past 4 or 5 years has started being considered a text city right under Austin. People don't get me wrong Austin is very beautiful and it's nightlife is bar none very fun but that's all it really has and morning comes around and reality hits and now having a family I by far I'm glad I'm in San Antonio rather than Austin raising my family and coming from Chicago I'm very glad I don't have a state tax.
