There are so many varying opinions on which engine oil to use. I found a very informative blog (link below) by an engineer that shows extensive testing results for engine oils and tons of great information on oil properties and what to look for to make your decision. In this video I show which oil I chose for both my 2016 F150 and 2016 Mustang GT coyote engines.

There’s a guy on CZcams called Project Farm, he does a lot of really good tests on products. He did an oil shootout with all the top brand oils and had some really good results. I like the idea of OEM oil filters! 👍🏽. I personally use shell Rotella T-6 0-40 Diesel engine oil on every motor I have. Been using it for years and never let me down. It’s high in zinc and phosphorus which are the additives that reduce friction. I used to have an oil for this and an oil for that, but not anymore T-6 0W40 for everything 👌🏽👍🏽

there is two drains on that filter pan, it is a pain in the butt... always a mess... 5w-20 through 5w-50 is what ford calls for in the coyote engines depending which vehicle. that engineers blog is spot on, it is a bit lofty but good information and he is testing with proper equipment. in our truck the oil doesn't get hot at all until towing , then it get up to temp.. 5w-30 should help..

The biggest problem is that people don’t follow the maintenance schedule. Folks like us, spending time with others thinking about this, are probably not the ones that will run too long between changes. Even if you don’t go full synthetic and just use the blend, Ford is saying that is good enough. At least for my 2019 coyote… running full synthetic with low micron filtration gives a little peace of mind if you’re unable to change it exactly when the light pops. If you’re anything like me, you can’t stand letting it go past the interval.

same oil as pennzoil plstimum, and yes its a solid product. They all are, there's been 600,000++ mile vehicles using every major brand oil, some over a million miles, yes gas engines.
Motorcraft filters are made by Champion labs unless something has changed, and champion makes lots of oil filters for major name brands. Bosch filters are made by Filtech (also used to be factory honda oem filter), and mobil 1 are excellent also.
Pick the right viscosity, change it on time with an off the shelf approved filters, and that's not half the battle --- that is 100% of the battle. In 40 yrs of being around engines (gas, diesel, two stroke outboards) and some up to 11,000rpm I have yet to see a wear difference in oil brands, not even down to a mic'd .0001" measurement. Initial engine build quality and the aforementioned changing oil & filters on time is everything.

Purchased a 2022 f 150 5.0 , I added a quart of oil at 2,000 miles . This kinda worried me, did I just buy a oil burner. I used 5w20 as per the oil cap. After 6,000 miles I had ford in Alabama change my oil , this of course was its first change. After leaving the dealer I saw the paperwork that stated 5w30 . I’m thinking a dealer put 5w30 as opposed to the cap stating 5w20 . As time went on I checked the oil because I knew it used a quart at the first 2,000 miles . Well no more consumption at this time. I was in South Dakota when it was time for another change at 12,000 so I went to ford again and they did my second change. That ford dealer also installed 5w30 all I know is I haven’t had any consumption since 2,000 mile mark . Do you go by the cap or 5w30 , just in case I do my own in the future.

They needed the extra protection in a 10w30 or 10w40. 5w20, 5w30, 5w40, 5w50 all flow the same at -30 degrees so the engine will not care one bit on the upper number until it gets warm.
