The Star Destroyer has limited forward firing arcs? Are we talking about the same ship here? The reason it has a arrow head shape is to give it has maximum forward firing arc.
@@zam023 the 8 large turbo lasers on top, 4 each side of the bridge area can only shoot the first in the line forward, so two at once unless the ship tips forward.
This was shown well in Rogue One as a SD fires the front ones while the 3 behind sit idle as they have no forward arc.
As I recall I believe this was addressed in the old canon as New Republic Star Destroyers were designed better after the Empire fell to avoid such failings.
The point being the Empire, did NOT take advantage of the arrowhead shape. This is probably deliberately done as most Empire tech has some level of design flaw in some regard.
On a serious note, I always thought the whole intimidation aspect of the GE (I think it was Lucas that mentioned it I don't remember) and their machines being huge was kind of just an exaggeration.
But then I learned about the Maus tank. And then the tanks the police drive around in the States.
It's just funny idk.
This is actually a super accurate metaphor. To an outside observer, they all look the same, but for the enthusiasts it's all the difference in the world.

@@yasininn76 yeah, real life warships are like that as well. The USS Iowa and the IJN Yamato looks pretty similar to one another despite being built by two different nations. Why? Cause the two ships have similar doctrines with similar purposes, A.K.A. big ships with big guns.

Lord Sidious, The self-declared Emperor, has always had a flair for the dramatic, and has frequently chosen style over substance. Director Krennic had noticed this early on, thus his dashing all-white attire, topped off by that magnificent cape. You'll notice Lord Vader also wears a cape. That raging drama empress Sidious can't resist a good cape.
In conclusion, Grand Admiral, athough your integrity may cause you to bristle at the thought of pandering to anybody's tastes, perhaps you should consider adding a cape to your wardrobe, in a colour that complements your distinctive blue complexion. I'm thinking of something in silver or gunmetal grey, of a metallic or shimmering fabric. You'll be irresistible.

@quineloe Thrawn was aware of the Death Star during its production, even learning about it early, surprising Palpatine. Thrawn also hated it, because he thought one big weapon was dumb compared to fixing the flying death traps that were the TIE fighters. He also notably hated resources going to waste, which destroying a planet absolutely is.

A fleet of Imperial star destroyer is a beautiful display of power and in my opinion is more efficient than a death star.

In reality, most of the star destroyers looks exactly the same (except Vader's Super star destroyer) and only differentiated when it came to addition of more ports, turbolasers/weapons, structure and Ion engine/ion drive. This was a move by the Star Wars marketing department to sell in merchandises and toys
There are 12 Super Star Destroyers plus 1 hidden on Coruscant. Vader's is not unique.

ok this is kind of bullshit. Disney doesn't sell Imperial-1, Imperial-2, and Tector-class merchandise/toys separately. In fact, I think they give less of a shit abt the differentiation than the fans... the Tector-class as far as I know has NEVER been sold as a toy or on any merch, ever! And I wish it was. We've never even gotten a canon depiction of its top side!!

Honestly though if you think about it the base star destroyer itself is an unbeatably good design for offense.
The way the ship is built nearly every single gun on it can be brought to bear on a single target at the same time, all you have to do is point your nose towards your opponent and you have completely unrivaled firepower. All your turbolasers can open up at once and destroy anything in a ship to ship fight.
No other ship in star wars has anywhere close that sort of offensive capability, until you account for superweapons.
Its only weakness is that pesky command bridge, and thats only included because otherwise theres no reasonable way to defeat one.
What I don't understand, is why not have that bridge there and have the commanders of the ship elsewhere onboard.
@@hllyenaylleth9576 better yet, why not get rid of the bridge completely, have a command room all the way on the interior of the ship and just use cameras and hologram tech to see what's going on in the battlefield.

Ironically, the Xyston is actually the most unoriginal of all Star Destroyer designs. It's the exact same model used for the Imperial I from Rogue One, only they just upscaled it to be bigger, meaning that all the windows, rooms, and chairs are double the size.

It's literally the same CG model that they enlarged for the movie. The original Xyston design couldn't be made in time, and was scrapped.

During the Galactic Republic everything looked so elegant. During the Empire years everything looks dull and devoid of artistic design. It is a great metaphor for the differences in the ages. Like Western design vs Eastern design during the Cold War.
