The Republic is known for their Jedi peacekeepers wo actually have nothing to do with War. However noumerous Jedi like Anakin Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka as well as Padme Amidala seem to take questionable chances sometimes in Order to take the win against the seperatist droids in the Clone Wars. For example on Mandalore or Onderon. So watch this video where I show you all the warcrimes commited by the "good guys".

For anyone wondering the battle droids check off pretty much every box for qualifying as sentient, they are shown to have opinions, to be able to learn, to have emotions like fear, sadness, and joy. They have a sense of selve preservation, they are shown to value things such as promotions and working conditions, and it’s literally explained that the droids were upgraded to be free thinkers some time after the war initially began.

I'm not sure Lucas could've done that in three films because it takes a lot of character work and time to do that, but Anakin falling to the dark side because he was literally battle-hardened, having seen the Jedi way fail his friends and costing them their lives many times over was way more belieavable. "I don't have any such weaknesses" really summarizes his character development in the series. You see him come into his own as a leader of men, which makes him more respectable and likeable overall, and you also see how casual about death and violence he gets. At the end of the Clone Wars, it would've really felt like he was ready to put on the Vader mask. The film version was too abrupt, too whiny. Mind you, the basic ingredients are all there, but it's too subtle at times.

I mean, he kinda fell because he never got trained to handle war properly, if we go by the well written (mostly legends) stuff. Every time they had mass falls to the dark side or "star pupils" fall it is because somebody messed up their training or sent clearly untrained and unsuitable people into war. Whenever they kept to sending out the properly trained jedi then even the spec ops/black ops people worked out nicely.

    • @Brelidav
      @Brelidav Před rokem +287

Anakin actively participates in 8 of these war crimes including the one the uploader counted back for some reason...idk.
Since there are 23 war crimes listed here in total, at 8 Anakin commits about 34.78% of the war crimes shown in this video. And while they're not TECHNICALLY Anakin's war crimes, I thought it'd be fun to add HALF of each of Ahsoka's crimes to Anakin's tally since...he was kinda responsible for her throughout the war.
This brings Anakin to 10.5 war crimes or 45.65% of the trouble maker.
It doesn't sound like a lot, certainly not as much as 90% (which, in order to get, Anakin would have to have committed 20.7 war crimes.)
But when you account for the fact that, according to this video the scores for the ENTIRE war are as follows:
      Yoda - 1
      Ki Adi Mundi - 1
      Anakin - 8
      Ahsoka - 5
      Obi-Wan - 2
      Bo Katan - 1
      Clones - 2
      Pong Krell - 1
      Rex - 1
      Padme - 2
      Palpatine - 1
Anakin DEFINITELY has the most. Obi-Wan and Padme are only about 8% of the problem. The clones probably SHOULD rank higher, but I based them on whether or not they were in charge of the situation when the war crime was committed.
Anyway, all of this because your 90% made me wonder what Anakin's ACTUAL percentage of ownership of these crimes were and...apparently it's 34.78% if you don't lump his in with Ahsoka.

The goal wasn't really to "corrupt" the Jedi, but to make them compromise their beliefs (okay, yeah corruption, but this is more specific) and remove them from the people, so it'd be easy to say "The Jedi are evil" and everyone would believe it. Also, wouldn't say the republic was corrupted. It's just that war does a great job of creating an Us Vs Them mob mentality that's really dangerous and easy to convince to do anything. You'll notice in U.S. history (if you are or aren't from there) that during wars is when we were the most united. Also when we were the most xenophobic and racist and printing slurs on the front page. As for Anakin, I always thought that was just a nice bonus for Palps. It seemed like he already had his plan in place and later learned Anakin was extremely powerful in the force and having trouble being a Jedi, so he took the chance.

      I'd offer 2 explanations:
In their galaxy, the political optics probably wouldn't look great. Your citizens are looking to you to destroy robotic world enslavers and if they then find out the government won the war but repurposed them to be "friendly" and assigned to military/law enforcement duties? Nah, the more likely want of a war-ridden galaxy is to BEAT your enemy, not have them walking amongst you.
In THIS galaxy, Lucas and the other writers/producers would need to create additional story arcs retroactively redefining the original trilogy's total lack of battle droids. At the end of the day, 100% of Star Wars lore boils down to the output of professional screenwriters, storyboard artists, scriptwriters, archivists, and producers. "Re-programming the droids" just wasn't the decided-upon path 25+ years ago by them :)

It honestly depends on resource allotment. If it is something that can scale to an entire army in a reasonable timeframe (around the same amount of time or less than it would take to scrap them all) and it wasn't a massive cost sink then yes that would have been the best action. There are two other issues with this. 1. Would the updated versions being released still have the same vulnerability? 2. Could the separatists use the same backdoor to regain control of the droids?

Also 3PO or R2 having personality is still following a set of programming instructions, the only difference is, it has been acquired by mashine learning where it makes itself new commands to follow. Every living thing experiences feelings and sensations. In a way you're following a set of programming instructions set by your DNA and your neurons firing in certain patterns. We can't predict them yet but one day we might be able to, or get very close. In that way our brains are like a very very advanced computer system. What makes you special?
I think if they develop distinct personalities over time and express thoughts about things, feelings, and an understanding of their own mortality, that seperates a droid on some level from a mindless machine. If they develop relationships, experience things, have desires, why should they automatically be categorized as less valuable than a human person. They would mourn, and be mourned by people. At some point, the distinction between "person" and "not a person" with these hyper advanced androids becomes blurry, but it also kind of becomes irrelevant. We think its wrong to needlessly kill animals or be cruel to them, even though they aren't fully conscious in the same way we are. If the droids seem indistinguishable from our consciousness in nearly every way, why are they less valuable than organic life?

And given that our own war crimes are rooted in logic (often because it helps one’s own soldiers being allowed to surrender or receive medical aid, for example), such an advanced society would likely come up with the same laws and even add things on.
