  • My personal review of rose” Elizabeth” launched in 2022 by ‪@david_austin_roses‬
    A large stunning shrub rose with amazing disease, resistance, vigour, and one of the fastest repeats I have reviewed so far
    High gloss, dark green glossy leaves that are wide and broad, make the backdrop for hundreds and hundreds of flowers
    At the beginning of the season, these can be carried individually, but as the rose really finds its feet in mid to late June, it produces spray upon spray of flowers, each containing up with a 35 heads per stem
    This is a large rose reaching in excess of 5 to 5 1/2 feet due to the weight a number of flowers produced. My advice would be to give this on obelisk or a basic wigwam of Hazel sticks like I have to give it some support
    Each bloom measures some 2 1/2 to 3 inches across and open is completely flat. Giving a saucer like shape to the flower buds are deep apple blossom pink tinged with heavy cream once open the pink ripples into shades of apricot and lemon.
    The fragrance is medium to strong, floral fresh and incredibly feminine, mixing citrus notes and old Rose fragrance together
    fragrance rating 6⭐️s

    Hi Ben was looking forward to this review after you bought her last year. I ordered a bare root in March and she's doing really well but i also found her more like a mini climber so did the same a few weeks ago and tied her into a wigwam structure. A beautiful rose! And thanks for all the info 💗

    Hi Ben, I’ve been looking forward to this review of Elizabeth, I bought 2weeks ago and already sending new shoots and blooming beautifully, as I planted herbaceous perennials bed was wondering how actually it becomes big. Thanks :)

    Thank you so much for the review! 🌸 I saw her at David Austin gardens late May and was surprised by her foliage (I would have expected from the photos online that she would be “more petite”), there were no blooms yet which also appear to be larger than I would have expected. You mention the “tell tale David Austin flip” at the top of the buds - could you say more to this (in another video or comment) maybe?
    I would have loved to get Elizabeth last year but it will take another year or so(?) until they launch her for Europe... *sigh* Same goes for Dannahue who blew my mind, or nostrils 🤪, when I had the incredible luck to smell it at DA gardens. Wahnsinn...

    I've been looking forward to this review. I was fortunate to get a bare root Elizabeth and she's still a baby but showing a lot of vigor already. DA actually shipped her to me with a bonus Emily Bronte because the shipping was delayed!

    Thank you for the great review! How do you deal with thrips on roses? I don't want to spray chemicals, are there any organic ways to reduce their population?

      Being a new variety, I can assume that you only have had this rose for a very short amount of time after re-planting it can sometimes take 12 to 24 months for the plants to re-establish itself and display its true characteristics. However, please bear in mind fragrance is interpreted by everybody very differently.

    Ive just been lucky enough to be giften one for Father's Day as a memento of my duties in September, to go alongside the King Charles Coronation rose. It looks and smells amazing, but your review has made me even happier to have it!
    What size pot would you recommend for this? The baseline DA recommendation of 45x45cm or larger?

    How much shade is this rose getting in your garden? The larger size is making me rethink where I’ll put it. It would get mid morning shade and afternoon dappled shade in a very hot dry summer area.

      Hello and thank you for your comment. I have recently moved mine to somewhere where it will get. No direct sunlight until around 11 am. It will then get full of sun through the rest of the day and it seems to be doing really well in its new location.

      @@MrDanishkhaliq goodness then well I’m afraid I’m not gonna be able to narrow it down any further for you I have enlarged pots myself and both performed beautifully. I would say that Olivia is the higher performer of the two but I have had A for much more time, Elizabeth being a fairly new introduction.

    Could this rose be planted to spill over a 5 foot retaining wall?

    • @the_gardenerben
      @the_gardenerben  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, it could, but it’s by no means a trailing or ground cover rose

      @merriemerrie7378 Před 4 měsíci

      @@the_gardenerben Thank you, I'm always looking for roses for lax stems, even if not identified as trailing, because I have areas of hillside with low to medium retaining walls. Many catalogs don't refer to the stiffness of the canes (or lack thereof), so I have begun looking at youtube for more detailed descriptions.
