This is a small compact well-behaved variety only reaching around 3 1/2 feet tall and around 3 1/2 feet wide making it perfect for growing in a large container or close to the front of a border or path where you can enjoy this roses beautiful fragrance
It enjoys great health and disease resistance and starts flowering in mid June continuing its show of flowers until the end of August and even into the beginning of September
Hardy zones 5-11 each flower is made up of 55 petals they open from tightly packed deep pink buds tinged with apricot and yellow to fairly large flower for the size of shrub measuring 3 1/2 almost4 inches across, they are Flat in their profile and deepy rosetted, with plenty of texture at the very centre a lovely light yellow apricot eye
The foliage is mid Green in colour course to the touch, broad and deeply serrated on the outer edges there is a small amount of barbing to the leaf axis which is not mirrored anywhere else within the plant as it’s virtually thornless the stems have a lovely silver grey colour to them paired with the flowers and foliage brings together a nice all-round package
The flower reminds me of “Hyde hall” which although very pretty and ranks highly with myself lacks the fragrance of this particular rose
The fragrance is Rich full bodied and seated with the old roses it’s warm citrusy with notes of clean linen and as the flower ages backed with notes of sandalwood and cloves

Unfortunately this is not mine it’s in my wish list -this is actually at a split I maintain and is planted in direct and full sunshine

Yes, at the general the more stems that you bring into as close to a horizontal position as possible the more growth your plant will produce and so many more flowers
I am so excited to see the first bloom of the Lady of Shallot in my yard this weekend. It is absolutely stunning. I did not expect much of a scent but turns out to be stronger than my expectation.

Wow Ben , finally . I always wondered why you never talked about this gorgeous rose with high petal count , beautiful color and shape It was very hard for me to find this in US have been looking for it pasr 2 years . Finally planted one last fall even as a your Bareroot it flowered a lot and had gorgeous blooms this spring . I have it growing on the Arch as you mentioned .
Hi @chametake7713 pls do not five up on SL. One year mine only had 3 flowers. Since then been feeding it with home made compost and any bananas going to waste, banana especially doing it loads of good. I have tess rose too but SL is doing better on its banana diet. Feed it well and hopefully it will reward you, beautiful scent and gorgeous flowers.

It’s one I tried to answer my collection several years ago but lost. I’m really glad. Glad to have it back. I’m very impressed with it.
I had no idea this rose was so beautiful!! I love the pinks and reds with more blue than orange in them.
The colour is so difficult to describe it goes this beautiful violet pink as ages. I just so many petals

I’m afraid I don’t spray any products in my garden whatsoever. My garden is a delicate natural balance all things are welcome if sawfly calls you a huge issue. My suggestion is to remove the section of plants which the caterpillars have hatched onto and relocate it to something less important hedge row, ragwort and dock plants make good hosts

Hi Ben this rose is a stunner. However for me, it's definitely more neon pink coloured than faded mauve for most of the life of the blooms. Had to rethink where to plant it so it didn't clash. The other thing is that I can find very little fragrance which is so disappointing on such a beauty. Along with everyone else I do wonder when DA will replace Darcey Bussell & Munstead Wood?🌹🌹🌹
I've been trying to get my hands on this Rose for a year now in the US. thanks for this review, I won't give up hope. Someday I'm going to have her!

I live in Florida and Spirit of Freedom does great here. Over 200+ petals and doesnt ball in our humidity. It gets over 15ft here. I have 5 of them. It grows well in difficult spots. One is against a south facing block wall.

Could you alternative Envii and tomato feed. So Envii one week and then tomato the next. This way you get each every 2 weeks?
No I only use the seafeed extra they also have a all purpose sea weed based product
Absolutely stunning rose. I find it very hardy rose hold its ground well in 45 degrees Celsius temperature here in India. Pleasant old rose and fruity fragrance. Great review as always.
Thanks to you I have finally found THE rose for climbing over a home made pergola covering a garden swing. I'm no expert so it has been very hard, but reducing my list to ten, watching your videos have made up my mind. Thanks very much!

It’s available from DA.com as far as I’m aware
Black spot is the worst here that i have ever seen. Even Queen of Sweden has it, and she has always been disease free. Good advise.
