  • Welcome to my personal review of Rose “ Blythe spirit “ from david Austin Roses
A really rather interesting sprawling and very informal shrub with a growth habit very similar to a patio or ground cover rose, suitable for growing in a large container, pot cascading over a retaining wall or maybe covering a large bank
It has a graceful and sprawling nature and in my growing experience is much wider than it is tall
Introduced in 1999 it produces large sprays of often up to 25 flowers per spray of buttercup yellow loosely formed flowers each around 2 1/2 to 3 inches across they fade to a lovely sherbet yellow lemon yellow colour just before the petals drop
Enjoying great disease resistant and tolerant of being planted in full sun partial shade and even capable of growing well in dry shade which for a rose is very unusual
Weather tolerant and due to its open formed flowers will perform well even in a wet summer
Flowering freely from early June to the very end of August sometimes into the beginning of September
There is little or no fragrance and therefore I have awarded it
    Fragrance rating 1⭐️

Nice to see something a little different. Would be perfect in several places in my garden.

It seems like it would make a really good looking standard.

Quite possibly it would be very graceful yes I’m almost 100% certain however that because of its year of introduction that it will probably never and has never been a standard
