    Great Video of these Lenses, thank you.
    One question, with these being Anamorphic on the GH5 specifically, is the crop factor still doubled? So that 35mm would have been a 70mm and the 70mm would have been a 140mm?

    • @NiceladyproductionsCanada
      @NiceladyproductionsCanada  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey, I think it's a bit misleading to simply double it. These lenses are basically shooting the full 4:3 aspect ratio of the sensor instead of 16:9, so it collects all the vertical information of the sensor then stretches it so it's an extra wide shot. The lenses are 1.33 anamorphic lenses providing a native 2.35 aspect ratio. I'd have to compare then side by side to determine the actual crop (when comparing to still lenses).

    is the Focal length convergence from these lenses double? or are they true for m 4/3?

    • @BoxerMuscleMilk
      @BoxerMuscleMilk Před 4 lety

      No, Because in Anamorphic mode, you are using the full 4:3 sensor so you are getting the 35mm or 70mm of height and half of that is the width for the stretch. So for the 70mm, it would be the 70mm height and 35mm width.

  • @ah-ray
    @ah-ray Před 6 lety +26

    On a side note, slrmagic admitted that they just used their adapter optics for the lens, just a different coating, that's why the focus ring is in the front. The coating is a bit better but still not worth the amount of money they ask for the rehoused optics. Also, please use a lens support for these, that poor mft mount of your camera is getting a lot of stress.

    • @RhettThompsonFilm
      @RhettThompsonFilm Před 6 lety +4

      Really? An adapter that's close to 1000 dollars integrated into a cinema lens thats about 1500 dollars more for the whole professional package is considered outrageous? By far the cheapest anamophic cine lens ever made.

    • @ah-ray
      @ah-ray Před 6 lety +1

      I personally prefer atlas lens co's lenses, way more usable for gimbals and rigs than this due to the focus closer to the sensor. I'm personally also working on a cine prime (50mm 1.4, 2x) btw, I have purchased a Hi-Fi 2 and a contax zeiss 50 1.4 for around €230 and the housing will cost me around 200 or something. It's going to be made out of magnesium. I may be using an element of a cinelux I just purchased, but that's not yet tested. That would bump up the price with €140. Also, 20 aperture blades! Got a cheap aperture from an old enlarger lens (industar 51). I'm not planning on selling these but I may hire them out, I'll see. I rambling so I'll stop hahaha

    • @RhettThompsonFilm
      @RhettThompsonFilm Před 6 lety

      I would definitely be open to the atlas lens's but Im not totally sure they are widely available. And those aren't anamorphic are they?

    • @ah-ray
      @ah-ray Před 6 lety +2

      yes they will be very available, now in preorder btw, they are anamorphic, with way better image quality than these, a bit more expensive but they cover super 35mm (!). These lenses (slrmagic) are not geared towards pro users (excuse me for the pun). These are more for the professional hobbyists that want anamorphic primes for their dslr (mft sensor) and can't afford the big guns. If you want to shoot a cinema camera (most of the time super 35mm) with these they are 'worthless' due to the large vignette. If you want a cheap setup like this try to find an anamorphic lens like a b&h, cinelux, 16d, ... and use it with a rectilux hardcore dna with a good prime, contax zeiss for example. You'll get way better results with the same kind of setup that is cheaper than/as 'cheap as the slrmagics.

    • @trevorpinnocky
      @trevorpinnocky Před 6 lety +3

      In no way, shape or form are these expensive for a singular integrated anamorphic solution. I challenge you to go out and do better. There's *nothing* close in price. Even a good quality anamorphic adapter is $1000-$1200. Add a single focus solution for another $1000. Add a taking lens $200. Add an adapter $30. There you go. Now get all the stuff working together. (I know. I have the hodge podge solution. :) )
      These things are a steal.

    @avecco Před 5 lety

    Hi, i am a little confuse. So a 70 mm normal lense in a full frame camera looks like a 70 mm anamorphic lens 2x in a mft camera? And what about anamorphic lenses that doesn't have 2x like this www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1178253-REG thanks

    • @NiceladyproductionsCanada
      @NiceladyproductionsCanada  Před 5 lety

      A MFT camera like the Panasonic GH5 has a native 2x crop because the sensor is so small. Lenses are referenced in comparison to a full frame sensor for people who started shooting on DSLRs. The link you share is a 50mm lens with a 100mm equivalent on a MFT camera with a 2x crop (50 x 2 = 100). Search "focal lengths" on CZcams and find a video showing what each focal length looks like. A 50mm lens on a MFT camera will look like the 100mm equivalent, so it becomes a telephoto lens. If you want the look of the focal length of a 50mm on a MFT camera you have to get a 25mm.

    • @RhettThompsonFilm
      @RhettThompsonFilm Před 5 lety

      Charles Cowper it’s Times 2 vertically but normal horizontally. So it’s still times 2 for MFT, but the 35mm is like a 17.5 horizontally and a 35mm vertically and both those values are doubled for the full frame equivalent.

  • @bufftheowl
    @bufftheowl Před 2 lety

    I wouldn't say cropping in post is fake, well maybe it is fake anamorphic but not fake cinemascope. Take cinemascope super35, it's image is technically a crop in the larger 4:3 film frame. I think the main reasons why to shoot with anamorphic is twofold, one to use more of the image frame and two to fit more image into that frame i.e. making the lens wider laterally.
