When using the Sirui Anamorphic Lens, or any 1.33x anamorphic lens, do NOT shoot in 'anamorphic mode' within the GH5. This 4:3 open gate mode is only intended for lenses with a 2x squeeze - For lenses with 1.33x (Such as the Sirui Anamorphic), the footage must be captured at 16:9 to produce the proper anamorphic result.
I just spent 48 hours banging my head against a wall over this. Hope it saves someone else the stress!

So what u are saying is that we shouldn't shoot anarmophic AT ALL!? Or shoot anarmophic using 16:9 mode instead of 4:3? I really want to get the Siriu lens for that anarmophic look and I own a gh5. Thanks 🙏🏾
THANK YOUUUUU! Just got the sirui this morning and did a test shoot at the gym , nothing serious but was banging my head too !! I found out that using a 3830x2160 and changing the X axis to 133% actually make a 16:9 footage but with the anamorphic distortion and it's pretty good looking and interesting ! Thank you so much for your comment I was going nuts tho !! haha

how did recorded at 3830x2160 4k how many mm will the lens be 100mm?
Thanks. I couldn't get the look right back when I got the Surui in March. I didn't get back to it until this week and, fortunately for me, I saw this note. It'll save me hours of trying to figure it out. Just shot a short clip and it works beautifully.

Alex, this really got me thinking and shows me (as a novice shooter) how little I understand about all this. I own a gh5 and bought a Sirius 35mm anamorphic lens. Its 1.7 really is brilliant. I also own an Olympus m5 iii which has intrinsic gimbal like stability, puts all others to shame. Could you provide a step by step to help me? I have an atamos monitor. Thanks in advance, Mark
Amazing love and knowledge. I’m using a gh6 with the atomos ninja v plus open gate. Gh6 doesn’t need a gimbal so far.

is it possible to get anamorphic effect without anamorphic lenses? i have Canon L series lenses and want to get Anamorphic effect with my GH5 6K mode A 200Mbit. if it is possible to do in GH5 menu, then please tell me how to do that. i have tried to select 6K 200 Mbit, but it was shot 4:3 and when i desqueeze it, the image distorted, there was not any anamorphic effect.

So what is the lens? Is it a rectangular lens?
It's an anamorphic lens, which are lenses specifically shaped to photograph the scene in true widescreen to create that "cinematic look" of the bokeh elements & lens distortion
@@AlexMonto why don't they just make wide sensors?
Chas X Because squeezing it gives the image a more “cinematic look” by shaping the image differently. Plus using the full sensor then squeezing it puts more information in the final product as opposed to a widescreen sensor, so GH5 can put 6k pixels into a 3k image
For me you breezed past the only info ( and why), i came here to find out . The actual settings to set up the 6k shooting including explanation of desqueeze. If you can shoot with a non anamorphic lens? n
Setting it to 6k anamorphic is pretty straightforward, it’s a menu setting. The setup to shoot true anamorphic is where it gets tricky - specific gear and preparing for the shoot. This tutorial only covers true anamorphic lenses - not non-anamorphic or adapters.
Ok, stretched faces become normal. But why stretched ovals became ovals and not circles? Distortion must apply to everything in the frame. Everything that is vertically streched after desqueezing should be normal. Explain this.
