On February 14, 1973 Elvis Presley presented Muhammad Ali with an 'Elvis Style' robe emblazoned with the words, 'People's Choice' on the back in rhinestones and jewels. The wording was a mistake as Ali was known as the 'The Peoples Champion'. Elvis was very upset about this but it too late. Ali thanked Elvis for the robe then went directly to the Las Vegas Convention Center for his fight that night against Joe Bugner where he wore Elvis' robe for the first time. Often the story is told he did not wear it this night, but as you can see in the video clip below, he sure did, and he won the fight too! As an aside Sammy Davis Jr was ringside for the fight and bought into the ring post fight by Ali. Al wore the robe a second time, entering the ring on March 31, 1974 at the Sports Arena in San Diego California, for his first fight with Ken Norton. The television commentator can be heard to say 'That robe was given by Elvis Presley at his last fight in Las Vegas. It cost around $3000.00 and it's Ali's pride and joy. On the back it says 'The People's Choice' in rhinestones and jewels and he loves it'. Ali lost the fight (only trhe second professional fight he had ever lost) and never again wore the robe considering it bad luck. 'Elvis was my close personal friend. He came to my Deer Lake training camp about two years before he died. He told us he didn't want nobody to bother us. He wanted peace and quiet and I gave him a cabin in my camp and nobody even knew it. When the cameras started watching me train, he was up on the hill sleeping in the cabin. Elvis had a robe made for me. I don't admire nobody, but Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you'd want to know.' - Muhammad Ali Source: ElvisPresleyPhotos.com

I don't admire nobody, but Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you'd want to know.' - Muhammad Ali

If you pay attention to any Ali fight, you'll see he had a tactic of softening up his opponents left eye socket! lol He was a head hunter meaning he rarely shot for the body. But whoever he fought with had a sore left eye at the end.
Ali was a best boxer.
Cassius Clay changed his name to a false prophet who had black slaves and called them raisin heads! His parents named him after a White abolitionist who hated slavery! Someone should have educated him!
Say what u want Bugner was tough as nails. Getting cut in the first round but he keeps going like a boss

The only ones who disliked him were people in his own country.
Joe put up a stalwart performance against the greatest heavyweight that will likely ever grace this planet.
You don't know much about boxing.

Cosell: "Ali the black man, Bugner the white man. That's a more direct to say it." This is the stuff of legend.
Very good fight. They would not give him a rematch. In usa you have to knock him out for a draw, comentator so biasd. Joe was a fantastic fighter.
He never unleashed his true fury, as he had killed a man in an early boxing bout.
UK media were terrible to him, disgusting how he was treated. He finally went to Oz.
This was a none - title fight.
Joe was offered a return for the title in 1975.
He hung on at the end, for a points defeat.
Round 10. How did Bugner ever take those punches straight to the face? It was tough to watch.
I want to see what Jim McKay was doing at Daytona Beach
you never see ali being aggresive like he was here. it's cool to see

Ali was a head hunter...!
I wonder if there's a way to digitally remove and replace Howard Cosell in these fights??
It was funny at 22.29 when drew brown budini was like there u go there he is there you go 😂
Bugner had more style than I thought. The British press just laid into him more than Ali ever did, Bugner was a big mouth but this was part boxing then & now. People didn't think he was British with his accent unlike our 'Enry Cooper cor blimey. Bugner was brave & went the distance twice with Ali but his eyes got cut easy by Round 3.
The Greatest!
I'd like to think that after the fight Ali said " Joe you're a tough young kid"
Bugner's Strategy I know Ali is going to kick the shit out of me, but he's not going to knock me out.🤕✌️
Ali was miracle
This is how heavyweights, and all boxing weights, should contest a bout... with boxing and not one moment of clinching, grabbing, wrestling...etc.
❤❤❤محمد على 😍🙇♂️💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍👍

the Joes are tough guys..
YEAHHH
Except Biden
You know you are good Joe bows his head to ya
Mohammed could had put him away hardly any body shots too much looking for the head shot. Bugner took a lot of punishment and gave a massive effort great fight. Old joe would had made a good champion in 2010. But in his day it was an golden age for the big boys of boxing

Both are fighting the same style.
At :20 I just Frazier Foreman fight on you tube and saw what Cosell was describing take place.
Bugner was a tough, tough cookie to go twelve rounds and take that kinda punishment.
Fighter full of humanity
I sometimes look at these fights and wonder what scoring system was in place for fights like these. I guess in this case that Nevada didn't have a must-10 rule at the time.
يا الله يسر ولا تعسر على محمد وعلى كلاي❤

38:50 Ali gives shoutout to Sammy Davis Jr.
That long hair of bugnars.... All you see is ali constantly going upside his head making his mullet jump in pain. But atleast he made it to a decision cause that left eye got cut in the middle of the first round from a two piece with no biscuit.
Lol!!
J Boy LOL! True!
That isn’t a mullet. His hair is long at the sides. But I see your point.
😂😂
Buddy has knocked hin out in 2 seconds🤷🏻♂️ juz kiddin, great fight 🙏

Moving like a welterweight. Made Bigner look avrage. And he was a good fighter in his own right
