    You need to check all those small tubes cast into the block to make sure their is no restrictions. I worked on the same type motor and they were restricted causing it to over heat, They are tiny and restrict easily. I thought about making them wider they seemed just to narrow. One goes across the top of motor from inside exhaust cover over to near the fuel pump then down and out bottom of engine area all those need to be open or it will overheat again. Looking at those screws on bottom of motor someone like you said has kept popping that motor off.. That red stuff maybe inside those holes for sure. Mine had small bits of sand in them.

    You can clean that crank with 2000 wet sandpaper and a little WD. I have a complete block with new rings and one new piston. They were hard to find, but EBay finally came through. The stock bore on those is 1.56 inches if you want to see if it’s out of spec. I think it might be because of how those piston’s basically fell out of the cylinders. Probably someone over-honed it and now the bore diameter is too large. I think another reason those things are hard to start is because they’re direct drive. When you pull the cord you’re turning everything, including the prop.

      Top end compression has no effect on crankcase compression.

    • @danielrobert7181
      @danielrobert7181 Před 9 dny

      As mentionned in the video, a leaking top crankcase seal would have left an oily ring in the bonnet so that problem is pretty well ruled out but the soapy water test needs pressure to be generated in the crankcase which in turn will create bubbles as air escapes around the leaking seal ... but no such pressure can be created if the intake's leaf valves do not block air going back out of the intake. Regards !

      Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I should have edited all that out but I had to goof on Captain Ron for giving me a hard time for not using soapy water. I guess nobody got it or maybe some did. Polishing the crankshaft will help

  • @robertrabhudsonhornet5869

    On that crank I would use fine Emery paper and try to get some of the groves it's not going to hurt if you do a light honing on the cylinders then I would put it back to tether I would use a then amount of seller when you put the two hafs of the motor back tether just make sure it's clean good where two services and where the gaskets are so that way you know it will seal good. I have never had to check to see on a boat motor if the motor will hold a vacuum or pressure I have dune it on smell engines you have to make something to plug off where the exhaust / muffler is and one for the carburetor what I use piece of aluminum and drill holes where the carburetor would've been then I would use a small piece of rubber from a inner tube and a pipe plug for the where the muffler goes then I made from a old compression tester I cut the one end off and huck it to a hand pump or vacuum tester and the other end you put it in the spark plug hole so everything is sealed then I'd pump about 5 to 10 psi and let it sit for round half hour if you see no change on the gage then you know that the block and seals are good

    Take some wet sandpaper and fix that crankshaft right up. It def should help brother. Use some permatex on the crankcase when putting back together. I would believe that since it barely had anything on it that it wasn't creating the pressure u needed

      Mop on a little muriatic acid before polishing the crank with the emery cloth, the acid will eat away any aluminum (watch it do it's thing ) left from the bearing & block and leave a smoother crank for the cloth.

    I think the lower seal is leaking and cleaning the piston and Ring the upper is dirty so the carbon shadow makes it look thinner 🤔 I'm typing this half through your video BTW 😅 probably got carried away with the red anaerobic sealer. Too much of that red crap will keep the lower mechanical seal from working properly I assume
