  • Another good outcome for a $100 Marketplace motor. Items found to be broken/ defective were the Magneto cam and flywheel, the points and condensers, spark plug wires, and the carburetor needed to be rebuilt. The last guy to work on it had over-torqued the flywheel so tight that it snapped the Magneto cam and destroyed the points. The flywheel is junk because the keyway was whopped out. I installed a new top crank seal, new plug wires, points and condensers, rebuilt the carburetor, drained and refilled the lower unit. Impeller is original in the test but I've got a new one and hope to change that this week too. Thanks for tunin' in!

    Nice little engine! I have a 15 hp. I love some of the older ones. Dad raced Mercurys, and I had a few but love the way Evinrude and johnson's run

    Get some Sta- Bil Fogging Oil and give the low cylinder a liberal blast. Rotate the crankshaft a few times and then let it sit for 24 hours. Repeat as needed while checking for any gains. If you can get it to run at all the heat helps too. Hopefully you just have a stuck ring

    Where have you been buying your fuel line?

    • @ALVintageOutboards
      @ALVintageOutboards  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hey 👋 I just saw this! I get this semi- transparent fuel line at Ace Hardware! I'm not sure if you guys have Ace in Ontario but it's Oregon brand! I love being able to see the health of the fuel pump and if you leave a 'sag' in it, it works like a sink trap and the impurities will gather at the bottom of that 'sag'! It's not the cheapest but we aren't talking about yards and yards of it (meters😊)

    Nice work on that beauty. Hey I aquired a well taken care of 61 18 evinrude last summer. Top cylinder @ 100psi. The bottom@ 65psi. When I pull it over its not making any unusual noise. Is there anything you would recommend me trying to bring up the compression short of pulling it all apart? Thanks
