she looks grate man you did one hell of a job on her
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Check out the new episode too!
Move forward with a steering station. Would require steering cable and controls. I did that to my fish boat about the size. Worked perfectly
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! I just took all that stuff out. Hahaha. This boat is going to be just for testing smaller outboard tiller's. This motor won't be on it to long but it has to work as I have more builds coming up. It's getting there! Stay tuned !
That's why the original steering position was closer to the middle of the boat. The trim tabs should help. The transom looks good and no leaks!
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yeah Baby Hahaha!
Boat looks great ! Nice job
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
You Need that 20HP manual start 75 lb Johnson on that boat. Im sure you know that electric start motor is way too heavy at around 120 lbs,LOLL! Put cement blocks in the bow. I just gave away 18 of them free on Facebook M .You are fun too watch either way... I Enjoy your adventures....
Yes it's coming up soon! Hahaha and a couple of 70's 25's and a couple more 80's 30's. The outboard is not to heavy the boat is too lite! Only 220 lbs! the outboard, battery, tank and me is too much all piled in the back of the boat, hell that marine battery weighs more than I do! Hahaha! Stay tuned !
Yeah an old late 50S 18HP clamshell would be the real ticket maybe a 1957 model. I think you said in one of your videos you were born in 57. Im still waiting for you to get one someday,HA! Trim tabs should help and put all the weight in the front or a cement block or two if that motor stays,LOL! Good Luck!@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
Stay tuned !@@OutBoardTink62
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 👍👍👍👍
I think you finally got it going pretty good at the end. I'd put the battery up front. Didn't the boat originally have a top up front and steering/control setup too. Boat may have been built to balance like that. Those parts your adding will help for sure👍
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yeah it had the console but no cover on. DIY Trim Tabs! Stay tuned !
Nice job I always like the good old choke
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Me too!
Add a big cooler in the front with ice and a couple 30 packs 🤣…that’s what I do…good video! 👍
Hahaha! Thanks again !
Maybe fill that little porthole in that little bunk seat in the bell with some ballast
Hey. Yes! Thanks for tuning in!
Always an adventure and learning experience 👍
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Stay tuned for the next episode !
The little bonwitco 12 footers we all use do exactly the same thing. Very sensitive to weight and trim . Trim pin in the bottom hole.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! DIY Trim Tabs! Stay tuned !
When you first started demolition, wasn't the original position of the controls one seat fore? I mean, towards the bow? That would have a significant effect on the balance of the boat.
With you, the engine, and the battery astern, I can see why you are high. Set the balance of the boat by extending the throttle shaft? Bring back console with pulleys for steering?
Good Luck and love your show.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yes it's obvious. Very lite boat, no floor or anything in it! This boat will be used for test runnig different small tiller outboards, I won't be putting the console back in. I've built some Trim Tabs for it. Stay tuned for the next episode ! Thanks again !
Had the same issue long time ago. I have an old lawn mower tire filled with cement with a handle that I place in the very front when I go out by myself. That usually corrects my porpoising issue. You could try an old small cooler filled with water/sand/cement/rocks in the front. I would also suggest moving that large gas tank as far forward as possible or use a smaller gas tank to lighten up the back. 8lbs per gallon is a lot of weight.
Hey Al! Thanks for tuning in! Yes little by little I'm getting there. DIY Trim Tabs! Stay tuned !
Hate to say, "I warned you"................ (but I did). This is why I quit the Orlando Clipper tiller steer boats; they all porpoise. I solved the problem by adding a 75lb kid up front. You can tuck the motor all the way under and that will help but will kill the performance. If I just had to have another Orlando Clipper, I'd put some trim tabs on it - and keep my fingers crossed. Good luck, and thanks for a great video.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I don't remember your warning! Hahaha, yes trim tabs! But this boat is for all future testing of small tiller outboards so this motor won't be staying on it but it has to work. I have two more to 80's/90's 25/30 hp builds and others that don't weigh as much. It will work! Spoiler- it does work! Hahaha Stay tuned for the next episode !
Porpoising can occur because of a center of gravity vs center of buoyancy issue. Some boats porpoise at high speeds, some mid range. Simple fix in small bow-light boats is weight distribution and engine trim. If there was a forward seat passenger it probably would not porpoise. Move the fuel tank and battery as far forward as cables and hoses allow, plus any carry on items. Throw an anchor in the bow! Then, set cavitation plate parallel to hull bottom. Move engine down a pin at a time until it stops. If it doesn't stop, small adjustable tabs, or a cavitation plate "fin" can be added. Trim tabs that are too big can have a huge detrimental effect on handling, which could be worsened further with additional passengers. 'Glass boat builders of runabouts often mold in "wedges" at the transom to prevent porpoising. Next time at a boat show, take a look at hull bottoms at transom. some wedges will be at keel, some at chines, some midway between.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Wow you just described everything I did in the video and what's coming up in the next episode! Hahaha. Thanks for the extra tidbits of information. Stay tuned !
Nice work on the transom
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Thanks ! Stay tuned !
This is hilarious
I was lol and that doesn't happen often
Thanks for the comedy
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Hahaha! There's therapy for that you know. Hahaha! Thanks again & Stay tuned !
I absolutely hate when the bow is up in the air and I can't see where I'm going. Especially when giving er to try to bring it down and she just keeps you blind.
@@timbiffis6306 me too!
i put that fuel tank up front on most of my small boats
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yeah need a long fuel line! Thanks again !
Transom looks great by the way
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Thanks, and super solid!
Trimtabs and hydrofoil, job sorted. fun to watch .
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
I have the same issue with my 14’ alumacraft, but I’m running a 61 40hp Johnson tiller haha! I think if I added steering and throttle controls upfront it would work better!
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Trim tabs! Stay tuned !
Nice outcome!
StingRay foil would do that wonders-if you were just going to run that outboard. Beings it's a test mule for different outboards hopefully the trimtabs will help.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yes! So nice to hear from someone that knows what's going on! Stay tuned !
Should get a sack of concrete and put it in the bow overtime it will harden in sack should take care of your problem
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yes it's all about weight & balance ! Stay tuned !
Build a deck on the front you’ll get her dialed in and she will work fine great job see you in the next one 👍🏻🤘🏻
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! See ya!
Dolfin on your motor will work great , it cured that porpoiseing on my boat
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! I've got a couple of those somewhere, but this boat will be used for test running different small outboards, that motor won't be staying on it for long. Thanks again & Stay tuned !
You need a hydrofoil brother30 to 40 bucks and it will plane out so much easier
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Trim Tabs!
👍👍....
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
Sometimes they will power through the porpoise if you could get it up to 22 or 23 it might stop 🤔
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yeah didn't happen trust me I tried. Trim Tabs! Stay tuned !
Hi ya'll so I have a serious question/problem. I picked up a 1970 lund 16ft tiller. My question is will it still float and be safe without the foam in the aluminum bench seats?
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Lund makes a great boat! If by someway the boat sinks it won't float without the foam in it. If it worries you just replace the foam! There are many options to choice from. Even ping pong balls! Hahaha! Thanks & Stay Tuned!
You need dolefins for the gear box will keep the nose down and stop the nodding
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! I have some around here somewhere. But I'll be doing Trim Tabs! Stay tuned for the next episode !
Sometimes they work good in the barrel and don't run in the water they get vapor locked
Thanks for tuning in!
How about putting two cinder blocks at the bow????
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Hahaha Yes definitely needs more weight ! Stay tuned !
Didn't that boat have a steering console midship?
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! It did, guess you missed that episode. Thanks again & Stay tuned !
a couple of trim tabs
Coming up! Next episode ! Thanks for tuning in!
Where are you located? I have a 2000 Johnson 70hp that needs a carb job. Nobody wants to work on this old outboard
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Sorry not taking any extra's right now. Too backed up. Try these local mobile marine mechanics. They work on everything. Thanks again
hydrofoil for the outboard should cure the issue
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
move the battery and gas can forward
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Check out the New Episode!
dude that's a lot of a$$ for that boat 15hp plenty
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! It's rated for a 50hp max thats why it has 3 transom knees. But that was back in 1956! not too many 50's around back then. This boat will be for testing small outboard tillers of all hp's. But it has to work with this one and it does! Its all about the weight and balance. Stay tuned for the next episode!
Move your gas tank forward, it will help
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
What actually causes a boat to porpoise
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! It's all about the weight distribution. Too much weight in the back of a lightweight boat. If the boat weighed 300 pounds it wound be fine or if it weighed 500 it would be hard to get on a plane. Thanks again & Stay tuned !
Is there away to contact you I have some questions.....
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. You just did! Ask away! Thanks again !
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 I'm needing help with my 89 evenrude 25. Was running 2 years ago but ran rough trying to get it back going but can't seem to find parts or not sure if I'm missing parts
@@tumbleweed901 Hey. marineengine.com should have any parts you'll need. Look up your year/model. You may also find parts, new & used on ebay. Any outboard thats sat for 2 years is probably gonna need the carb taken apart and cleaned. That's probably your biggest problem. Check out my carb cleaning video, "the two most important things" if you need help. Also do a routine spark test, probably wouldn't hurt to throw some new plugs in it if the old ones look bad. Compression test would be good too. May have some piston rings sticking from siting. Don't forget to gap the new plugs. If your still having problems after all that, best bet would be to pick up an OMC service manual specific to your year/model. It has a great troubleshooting section. Check ebay for a good used one. Curious to know what happens! Thanks again !
Thanks for the info the motor is on a 4 person pontoon
Bro… way too big of a motor on that little aluminum Jon boat… you need a 5hp
I said the same thing I think hes just having fun....
Just needs a hydrofoil
@@BassBashin yeah, that might help… I put wale tales on my 25hp Johnson on my pontoon, she rides level from start to top speed now
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! This boat, believe it or not was/is rated for a 50 hp max according to the id plate and serial number. It had a console for steering wheel but I took it out. Keep in mind it's was built in 1956, not to many 50 hp's around back then! It's all about the weight, these Orlando Clippers are known for being very lightweight. I've seen the 16 footer's with 70's on them. Thanks again & Stay tuned!
@@bluediamondareafishing3563 I had that problem with my boat too. Same issue as the video, not enough weight in the front even trimmed all the way down she was nosing up. Hydro foil fixed all of that and made it more stable, also cuts through grass better now too.
Trim tabs
Coming up in the next episode ! Thanks again & Stay tuned !
