- It's THIS OLD OUTBOARD. The Boat was Porpoising with the 93 30 Hp Evinrude. Heavy Outboard on a Lite Boat! I need the Boat to work, not the Outboard, as I will be test running different size/hp outboards. So I decided to Build some Trim Tabs! Old School Style! Follow the Real Life Saga & SUBSCRIBE TODAY! Can't wait for the next installment.Love these R&D runs..
Thanks !
Very good build. I love it when stuff get re-purposed. A little tweaking and you're there.
Thanks 👍
Just saying ..... you could add a dolefin or whaletail onto the outboard cavitation plate to make the boat obey the whaletail and
make adjustments with the tilt pin setting(s)! But trim tabs also work fine, and then you don't need to make drill holes in the
cavitation plate to mount the whaletails!!!! Love the videos!!! Keep 'em comin!!!!!!!
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah I need the boat to work as I'll be test running all different sizes of small outboards. This motor won't be staying on the boat and I have other builds coming up of the same weight/horse power. I've got some dolefins and a big ass whaletail around here somewhere, I would have used them if I were keeping the boat/motor together. I wished I had never sold my 15' Dura Craft but oh well. I didn't realize this clipper was such a tin can! Hahaha Thanks again & Stay tuned !
Bad ass man!!!! I’m impressed
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
good positive test.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Stay tuned !
Hell yeah! Good build. I wouldn't move the brackets on the transom, I'd elongate the bolt holes in the brackets on the boat so one side could be moved upwards or lowered, and you'd still have your swivel joint too.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Yes I came up with a different idea! Stay tuned !
Man. nice I put a couple of dumbbells in from of my Gregor, helps a lot, make sure you get the one's wrapped in plastic so they don't rattle !
Ever check for hull hook? A lot of boats, especially glass, that sit on trailers constantly get a hooked hull. 1/16th of an inch hook can cause porpoising.
Hahaha I won't be using dumbbells but your close! Stay tuned !
Looks good! I still think a couple 30 packs in the front would be of better use..🤣🤣
Good video! 👍
Hahaha! Stay Tuned!
Have you ever set up a Jon boat with a 15” shaft that had a 20” transom ?
Curious about the way a setback plate may work.
Hey. Yes! I had to test run a couple of small outboards and had no choice but to use my 16 ft Starcraft. That was fun, Not! Now I don't have to worry about it anymore since I got the 14 ft. Clipper. You'd have to go way back and 5 inches down, it will never work if it's a tiller handle. Best to just cut the transom down. Hope it's an aluminum boat! If you cut it, you'll have to consider the transom tilts back a little and the motor hangs straight. So the transon needs to be more than 15". The cavitation plate on the motor should be even with the bottom of the boat. Thanks for tuning in!
Luke "Chinewalker" lol - felt like I was going for a ride in the starfighter for minute there, somehow? !
Hahaha! Stay tuned!
Had a twelve foot semi vee years ago and I put a couple kegs of drywall screws up front, perfect👍. The seams of the boat were caulked with Franklin construction adhesive too!!
Cool! Thanks for tuning in!
Take a straight edge and line up the tabs to the underside of the hull.
I did! Thanks for tuning in!
You still have your 16’ red center console Starcraft? Gary in Michigan
Hell yeah! Thanks for tuning in!
Off the subject but anyone have any ideas on how to mount a bilge pump in a 1970 aluminum boat (tiller style) ?
Clean the boat bottom good. Then just glue the pump base to your hull with ‘Weld-wood’ water proof glue or a construction glue like ‘liquid nails’ Gary in Michigan
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
I actually came up with a idea I'm going to glue a small plastic cutting board down then mount the bilge pump to it!
@@danielscrapper8207 hey. don't glue it down. Just put it where the water gets the deepest, then strap down the hose to hold in place using some zip ties, some how, some way. If you glue it in you'll never be able to take it out and clean it.
Your a genius man it flies
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Stay tuned !
I knew you would get it dialed in great job 👍🏻🤘🏻
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Stay tuned !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 will do 👍🏻🤘🏻
Hey this old outboard,I have a question,I have a 1984 Evinrude 15 HP,the pinion bearing is bad ,I removed it with a threaded rod and some washers, pulled thru the top, what I'm wondering is,do I install the new bearing from the top of the gear case housing,or press it in from the bottom of the gear case, and how far does it go in? Is there a flange inside so stop how far the bearing goes in?
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Wow! Beats me, I've never had to go that deep into a gearcase before. From looking at the schematic of an 84 15, I see two bearings, #28 BEARING ASSY., PINION TO GEARCASE and #19 THRUST BEARING, PINION, with the two washers. I'm gonna guess you took out #28 since you were able to pull it out through the top but I dont see any washers with it. Anyway I would think you should be able to install it the same way it came out but how deep I don't know. I was going to suggest leeroysramblings.com, he might have something there, but the website is down at the moment for updating. Hate to say but you may have to tear the whole thing apart. Sorry I wasn't able to help. I'm curious to know what happens. Good luck!
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 yes number 28 the driveshaft bearing appears to be in good shape, figured you'd know what I should do,know you've worked on lot's of outboards ,yes I was going to consult Leroy's but the site is down, just not sure if I should tap in down the housing from where it came,or press it in from the bottom, thanks for your input, keep the vids rolling 👍
That's great 👍 I was thinking you could have put one of those hydrofoils on the motor to get the same effect 🤔 If you get those tabs up a little set just right it solves the boats issues then any motor should work Nice Job
Yes! Stay tuned for the next episode !
All you needed to do is relocate the battery in the bow and move the gas tank forward,. Oh well.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Stay tuned !
Gotta agree there! Put the battery and fuel under the front bench
@@christianfletcher2672 Wow did you even watch the video?
I think once you get those things tweaked out a little bit. You'll be able to put a even bigger motor on the back of that thing for testing
Hahaha! Thanks for tuning in!
Tabs are a win. Maybe reduce the size a bit so it doesn't affect steering as much? The outboard gods gave you one and then they screwed up the motor.
Hahaha! if you only saw the video before it was edited. You must be psychic! Thanks again & Stay tuned!
to me I think they don't need to that big
Yes. That's the prototype! Stay tuned for the rest of the story! Thanks !
If it is blowing the ashes off your cigarette your going to fast
Hahaha! Thanks again !
