    Awesome glad you brought up the problem with sudden reverse throttling and hydro locking too many people don't know about it. You can drive around for years and not notice it but have a performance drop through bent conrods. I'm sure heaps of beginners make this mistake. To emergency brake drop the gas and turn hard right so the wake doesn't roll over your Transom....

    Interesting video, I had a similar issue with my f150 (truck). Every time I would fill up (33 gallons) my truck a 2012 ecoboost would take like 5 seconds of cranking before it would start, never any issues any other time other than after a fill up. Turns out, it's kinda like the boat problem, the vent in the tank associated with the emissions was stuck shut and unless the pressure equalized, it wouldnt start. Changed that little valve, never an issue since. Thanks for all the videos, i have learned so much.

    I experienced the fuel fill issue on my new robalo, i think it's because the charcoal in the canister has never had fuel and it takes a while for it to start absorbing, like a fridge water filter, takes some getting wet for it to start absorbing.

    I remember working a in a boat that the generator would cut off at random time ( customer states ) we left it running in the water over the weekend and it didn’t cut off , then a wake hit the boat and it cut off … ended up that when the factory used a hole saw to cut the sending unit hole the cut part fell into the tank and when the stars aligned the pick up would suck that piece up and block off fuel

      Saw almost the same thing where a guys diesel would randomly shut down. He got so mad about it after chasing Everything he could think of. He was sure it was electrical. So He bought a new motor at 55 grand. Needless to say he was really really pissed when it started doing the same thing after a week or so. 🤦‍♂️. Turned out to be a couple of the foil shrink tops that are under the plastic cap of a bottle of cetane booster/fuel conditioner. Lol. They would just randomly get close enough to the pick up tube to get sucked in and lock the system. Guy was furious when it was figured out.

    Slow filling your gas tank can be attributed to a poor ventilated tank system. Check your tank vent tube for gas from overfilling, clogged from insects kinking, sometimes its not routed correctly. Check your gas tank vent valve for proper operation.

      and watch the IDIOTS not start their engine BEFORE they put it in the water to make sure it will start. Then sit there and try to tie up the launch while they try and get it started. I have a jet ski, I start it BEFORE I leave to go to launch. Then once there BEFORE I go to put it in the water I start it AGAIN. Running any engine for 10 seconds out of the water won't hurt it.

    That piston wasn’t bad, it was just “vented” to ensure the compression wasn’t too high….nothing like cheap land gas station fuel lol…regarding that broken intake valve - carbon build up is a problem causing valve stem issues. BMW and Ferrari recommend using crushed walnut blasting to clean the valves. It’s a detailed process (manually turning the engine) since the the valves have to be closed. BMW recommends to do every 80K miles….

      "nothing like cheap land gas station fuel lol…"
      You do know the fuel the off brands sell is bought from one of the big names right? It's the same fuel on land or at a dock.
      As a matter of fact, One Refinery may make fuel for a number of the big names. The only difference is the blend of additives which make the fuel brand specific. Nothing wrong with "Land gas" in a boat is what I'm getting at.

I just completed a service on both of my 2002 Yamaha 200 Hpdi ,new plugs and fuel filters and I also thoroughly cleaned the oxygen sensor. Both engines start right up and run well , however the starboard engine will run fine one day then the next day it will run for 15 seconds then shut down with progressively shorter run times when I try to restart it .Do you have any idea what could be causing this issue? Thanks

    • @PFLEONARDI0906
      @PFLEONARDI0906 Před 2 lety

      Earl: my opinion, it depends on how many hours you put on it. If you are running it often, pull them once a month to check them. Get a spark reading chart/photos so you can base them and follow their deterioration by the color of the plugs. I would change them fresh every season. proper gapping is important. Of course any performance issues like rough running or misfires would be cause for immediate concern- bad fuel is always a concern. If you use it often sometimes the gradual decline becomes unnoticed, so have a friend listen to it also. I hope this helps.

    I do have a very interesting technical story about my 2001 Honda 115. There is a known issue with the heads on this model and so knowing that I knew that number 3 cylinder was probably going to be the issue. Did she started as misfire at idle. Compression test shows 90 psi in that cylinder. Much lower than the others. Honda bulletin shows issue is typically a cracked head between three and four I believe. So I take the cylinder head off and take it to the machine shop I have inspected. No problems they said. No cracks. I concur as I don’t see any cracks or really any problems with it. I’m going to call it a head gasket put it back on and test. Put it all together and have the same exact problem and same low psi on the cylinder. I took it back off and had the cylinder head on the ground looking at it trying to figure out what the heck was the problem. I poured fresh oil over the valves to see if they were leaking. Here is the crazy part! The issue with the cylinder head from Honda was that it got hot at that spot and cracked the head. The issue is that saltwater scale builds up in that area and boils the salt water. What happened to my cylinder head was it boiled and corroded tiny little holes in the cylinder walls through to the cooling jacket area. Oil actually used into the cooling area.

    You'd think that the "smart" control system would be smart enough to stop you from throwing in reverse, while moving at planing speed. 🤨 Also, an Aluminum prop would have prevented gearcase damage. They are very light compared to a heavy stainless prop. Sure, they don't last so long in the ocean, but it's the BEST way to protect your gearcase in any given situation. Plus, aluminum is 5 to 10 times cheaper than a stainless, so you can get an extra one. 😉
