      Hey. Thanks again. I was hoping to call you and get it all on video but I haven't had time to do squat. It's still in the back of my van. As soon as I get the 40 done, I'm going to build the 25. Can't wait ! Don't tell nobody but the forty is running, hahaha Stay Tuned for the next episode. I'll be in touch. And Thanks again !

    Picked up another sweet 33hp Evinrude shorty the other day. had the SAME ISSUE! Took me and a buddy to breaker-bar that monster flywheel loose. Sounded like a gun went off when she finally broke loose! did the points and coils... really weak spark on the top cylinder only. then i realized the wire are shot in the same place as yours! Got new ones from an old roll of wire I had. sparks like blue thunder now! Good luck!

    I looks like the old 40 horse is coming along . love the old outboards. Good job this old outboard.👍😎 I wish you could help me with some of my old outboards. My old 1979 Johnson 9.9 needs some help in the lower unit!.. I live in Orlando buy Curry Ford and Dixie Belle in the Conway area.

      @@scottjohnson1364 Yeah. If it's jumping out of gear it just may be an adjustment. the linkage in the mid section probably needs tightened. Also, have you checked the the oil ?

      Got one up to the boat but got away. Just a small like and close to take my grandson. He had fun was the main thing. This is where I'm going later this week. About an hours drive north up by the mountains. Fish are big and health up there in the summer months. czcams.com/video/ayUOB3dtrg4/video.html I'll be posting a video when I get back

  • @fleetwin1
    @fleetwin1 Před 4 lety

    Well, your videos have provided valuable lessons for anyone dealing with one of these darn "low tension" ignition systems.... That primary harness is a major source to trouble for these engines....The primary harness should be inspected for chafing/melting/kinking during every tune up...The final check should be done with an ohm meter, checking for continuity and shorts to ground.... Just cuz the wires "look good", doesn't mean they are......Use an ohm meter set on the low ohms scale...

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  Před 4 lety

      Yeah. That's how I found the bad wire and like I said, if I didn't have a meter I'd still be there pulling my hair out. I ended up taking every wire out and checking them. Way to much video to go through ! Hahaha Thanks again !

    Burnt points are usually caused by a bad condensor. The condensors purpose is to soak up extra voltage so the points don't burn. I would swap them out !

    Great video! Why not just replace the whole points in general, and replace them with better ones and see what happens. Don't know if that will make a difference. If not, you could convert it to a CDI electronic ignition module.
