I worked at an omc dealership for 20 years as an outboard mechanic an I give you an A on the work you did on this motor nice job great video as always
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I appreciate that! Stay tuned !
The old 18hp - 25hp Johnson/Evinrude hold special place for me - Growing up in the "60's & '70's had the besg oc times on variety of boats- Now have barn full of old outboards of all sizes but these will always be my favorite - Probably running close 2nd would be 3 cyl 60hp - 70's & old V4s are the torque monsters of old days- -Good to see there are still some old Cats keeping them going-
Cheers Mate!
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah my favs too!
seeing the 2 carbs together made me think, a dual carb manifold with 2 carbs! hee, hee
Heheheee! Hahaha Thanks for tuning in!
With a hard pull like that, it’d be nice to make it an electric start if possible-good video 👍
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I mentioned that in the previous video. I have the old style mount to do it. The problem is those mounts are $400 on marineengine.com, used on ebay $250 -$300 if you can find one, then another $60+ for the starter motor/solenoid/wiring. So I'd really have to jack up the price of the outboard. I am thinking about hooking it up just to save my shoulder! Hahaha, and use it when need be. Thanks again !
Got my 1993,Evinrude 25 running mint just had to open up pilot jet I need to replace all my fuel lines the primer lime was bad the fuel coming out was black! I used clear weed whacker fuel line on
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Sounds good!
Hey man, you got grease in your veins, that's what killed the mosquito. 😅 That motor should run like a scalded rabbit.
Hey. Thanks again ! I hope so!
Great job are you going to put it back on the clipper or another boat 🚤 can’t wait to see her running 👍🏻🤘🏻
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yes it will be test run on the clipper then up for sale and on to the next build. Thanks again & Stay tuned !
Hey man nice outboard! Maybe you already noticed, but the rol pin for the the butterfly is hitting the bolt on the crankcase...
Like the time you used a finishing nail for a rol pin, you couldn't get it to idle down
Greetings from The Netherlands
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I saw your comment yesterday while working on the motor and I thought, wow great observation. It did appear that way. So I mentioned you in the video, not by name, but that someone had just commented about it. And tapped the pin in just a bit. Thanks again & Stay tuned !
I always love running my issues over to you here on CZcams lol. On these 71'-72' 20 and 25 hp outboards are the bypass covers able to be swapped. I'm wanting to run my fuel pump up high and the hose on bottom.
Hey. I wouldn't go against the grain. Never tried to swap them so don't know if it matters. Try it, you can always swap them back! Thanks !
Now i know for sure those parts today i order today they will definitely fit. After seeing them on this 20 horse power motor the recoil pieces there
Hey. If you look up your year/model on marineengine.com then you can get the exact part numbers you need for your outboard. You won't have to guess! Thanks !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 yep that's what I did. Very easy to order over the phone first time I ordered from there. Good experience. Parts are a little expensive but they have what you need.
Man you should get a ultrasonic cleaner. 10 liter for close to $100. I used a smaller one for years but the 10 liter one I can do 3 carbs at a time. It heats up to 175° and only takes about an hour to clean them really good! Well worth every penny.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah I'd luv to have one. One of these days! Thanks again & Stay tuned !
I think Kodi says Garbagrator. Which is funny
Hahaha! Thanks for tuning in!
Nice work! Do you use worm drive clamps for your fuel lines? Im a big fan of cable ties myself.... keep yo the great vids! 🤙 🛥️
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah I'm a zip tie guy too. But on this log outboard I went with the old school steele clamps. They were there so I used them. Thanks again & Stay tuned !
Hey. Love the videos. Where are you located?? I got a 70hp johnson that needs work!!
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Sunny Central Florida. I've got my hands full!
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 interested in doing the motor mounts for me sometime in the future this summer? Lol id drive up to you. And pay. Im in Miami ❤️❤️
hi, i have a 1972 evinude 18 hp, near identical to this motor, can you explain adjusting the shifter? i found the screw with the square nut backer loose. i think smashing it all the way into forward and tightening it there should do it- am i right?
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah I remember doing one years ago. Put it in forward and tightened it up, but still having to readjust a few times until it was right.
Whats the horse power of that Evinrude motor? Thanks Kyle

Hey this old outboard, good video, always enjoy watching you, I've got a issue with my 71 Johnson 25 HP,it won't idle properly, cleaned the carburetor multiple times, Sierra rebuild kit, new fuel pump, ignition system rebuilt, new fuel lines, new OEM LS needle,it's got me confused on why it won't idle properly, removed the Welch plug 2x cleaned the drip holes, any ideas 💡?
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Sounds like you got it covered. Only thing I can think of is a possible air leak somewhere, reed valve pedal sticking or hanging open. Even though the ignition is new it is possible to get bad new parts, like a weak/bad condenser. Try runing it on one cylinder at a time like its two separate outboards, that will help with tracking things down if one runs ruffer then the other. Hang in there! Thanks again & Stay tuned !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 , I've considered maybe the read valves mighty faulty, thing is it ran good last year, change the fuel pump and put a new OEM slow speed needle in it because I dropped the other one and bent the tip, what do you think the chances of the carburetor, being bad? It's definitely firing on both cylinders, new wires, plugs ,the 1 your working on, looks just like my 25 HP , I usually don't have too much trouble getting them dialed in, but this issue has me stumped 🤔
@@jimm1975 Hey. I didn't mean it wasn't firing on both cylinders, its just a test to see if one may be missing a bit at idle. It's just another part of the process of elimination. When your stumped on something you have to elimate every possible thing until you find the culprit. Never assume anything with these things. What may seem like a fuel issue can be ignition and vice versa. They tend to mimic each other. Like some people will test their coils, and the coils can test fine but when they heat up they will start to break down and it makes you think you have a fuel issue because the coils tested fine, then you go crazy trying to figue out whats wrong with the fuel system. I know, Hahaha cause it happened to me! So I quit testing coils a long time ago. Anyway. Same with your carb, I don't think it could go bad, but its not impossible for something to loosen up and make its way to the carb and cuase problems. There's nothing worse then trying to track down whats causing a problem, just like what I'm doing with this 20 hp. Big pain in the azz. But somebody has to do it. My freind Dino has been going crazy with his 60hp Johnson surging problem. The day he brought the boat/motor over to show me he pulled the plugs to do a compression test, I noticed the middle plug looked cleaner then the other plugs and showed him. Long story short and weeks later and hours and hours he spent on the forums trying to figue it out, I told him again, When it starts surging cut the motor and pull the plugs. He finally did it and found all 3 were sparkling clean with tiny droplets of water on them. Well, he has broken off 5 cylinder head bolts tryin to put a new head gasket in. Man I feel for him...he's never had to deal with a situation like that but you live and learn! Keep at it!
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 , thanks these outboards can be quite contrary, I've done about everything I can think of to eliminate the issue, you'd think being that everything is brand new,it should be fine,1 thing I didn't do was pull the reed plate and check it,I've worked on 6-7 Johnson/Evinrudes never had a reed issue, crankcase seal is new as well,I wouldn't think the carburetor would go bad either, hate to throw parts at it to see if it fixes it, especially when outboard parts aren't cheap
@@jimm1975 yeah I'm the same way. don't buy nothing on a guess. you'll figure it out
Just curious what you think about having the idle timing at 8° instead of what the book calls for which is 4°. My motor runs a bit better at 8° which brings up the idle speed a bit also, but it definitely seems to like it while idling in neutral and idling in gear. Is it hurting anything to leave it at 8°?
Hey. No I dont think its gonna hurt anything. I've always said let her run where she likes to run! Thanks !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 10-4!
.... throw away that f....ed thermostat, you live in Florida, not in Iceland...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yes and we like it hot! Hahaha Thanks again !
