      Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Don't know if you saw the 1st Fire episode, anyway it fired on the first/second thump but only after I poured some fuel in the cylinders. So it's pretty much "tuned in". It just couldn't pull fuel through the carb with that big crack on the intake, was just sucking air. It should fire now. Thanks again & Stay tuned!

      Kinda related, once fixed a Holley carb base plate to body bolt hole that stripped with JB. Coated the bolt with some grease n wiped most it off. Then dobbed the JB all over it in excess n shoved it in the hole. Had already douched the hole with brake cleaner... Lots of it lol. Made sure the tip of the bolt was clean of JB. Set it up to keep pressure on the bolt head as the JB cured. Next day i broke the bolt free, removed it, wiped it clean and reinstalled it. Snugged it up and it's still there today!
      On another note- i watched a vid of yours(TOO) from years ago when you did another 20? I think hp Johnson and it was a bitch to turn as well. Must just be that model?? Look forward to the next installment of this gripping drama! He, he, he, heeeeEEEE!!!

  • @t.j.h2810

    That engine has been run very hot and your cylinders aren't round anymore, and as the rings rotate it slacks up causing the pulls to be hard then easy ( COME & GO )....... if you're lucky the wrist pins are your problem and can be replaced easily, hopefully not a bore or hone job in your future but if it comes to that a complete rebuild is best.

    I've 40 hp evinrude 1975 fuel not reaching cylinders specially the top cylinder
    I found out that starter lower bracket (two bolds mount starter into front of intake) was stripped and i think they leaking air (crabkcase compression)
    I fix that issue but still have fuel problem
    What do u think it's something similar to this 20 hp u working on
    I forgot to mention if i pour alot of fuel it will reach the cylinders but i think lower cylinder have fuel more than the top one
    Carb is cleaned and adjusted twise

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  Před měsícem +1

      Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Plug them up with some sealant. When you cleaned the carb did you "poke" out the tiny holes in the top of the throat just behind the butterfly. If they're clogged you'll have starting/idling issues. Usually no amount of carb spray will work, they really need to be poked out. A bread tie or guitar string will work. Turn the slow speed/idle screw 1.5 turns out from seated, that should get it started. That idle screw has a lot of packing, is all the packing good and compressed with the packing nut. If there is an air leak there you'll have problems. Have you done a compression test and a spark test. What may seem like a fuel issue can be an ignition problem and vice versa. A weak spark will just drown out. Points may be dirty or bad/weak capacitors/coils. Check if its firing on both cylinders and a strong spark. Chasing a no start situation is no fun! You'll just have to go through everything and rule it out as you go. Could be just a simple air leak or it may be time for a good tune up. Hope some of this helps. Curious to know what you find out. Thanks again !

    I would suspect that crank is junk did you see how hard it turned when he first tryed spinning it by the journal.even though bearings feel fine without the crank in the case there is some tolerance that isnt kosher.junk the crank but try a differant one.if spins better than ur on to issue.someone rebuilt it with parts that may not match tolerances ill bet.no sense beating a dead horse like that itll never run proper.melt it down n start over.my two cents!!
