Pretty cool! I have a cheap Amazon chineasium spoke guage for home use. Wonder how accurate that is, ever test one? Thinking if I could build a test stand using a digital bike scale.
I got such a tool which came from China. Exact same design which is easily copied off course which is not very difficult to do. But I have never seen a test bench like this for spokes in which you can apply the desired tension. If I had to improvise something like this I just would use weights to get the desired tension because I do not have a digital weight scale like Dan. Another option would be if you could modify a person weight scale.
What is that spoke calibrater/tensioner called??? Im technically savvy but a novice at wheels. Ever since I purchased an eBike I've been obsessed about wheel structures, truing, building and everything wheel & spoke related. Ive been going further & further down the rabbit hole. I feel like a Neanderthal
For me it didn’t do the job, after I went to park tool wta app and adjust every spoke on my wheels it still wobble, then I went doing it the old way on a true stand it went fine, so I’m not sure about this tension meter, sorry…
The tension meter won't true the wheel for you. It's only function is to ensure you are in the proper range of tension. Adjusting each spoke to get the same reading on the meter is not truing the wheel.
Hooking the spoke to a weighing scale in a rigid steel frame and then applying the appropriate amount of tension to the other end of it with a heavy screw-threaded bolt (cranked up with a spanner to give the right 'pull' reading on the scale) gives exactly the same result. If anything, it's a closer simulation of a spoke under tension in a wheel than using a hanging weight.🙂
I use this tool every day in the workshop
Kool stuff

👍😎
How far off are most TM1 meters for 1.8 spokes?

Very cool. Bikeman564
Shouldn't this be done with a hanging weight?
