I love McCoy's crisps and all the flavours but love Thai sweet chicken the most. The brand was launched in 1985. Harry Ramsden's also come in cheese and onion which i buy regularly.

Hi Keza, I know we've had Thai sweet chili as a crisp flavor, but I don't recall the chicken. Though we've tried a lot and some blur together! Cheese and onion - always a great flavor.

McCoys are lovely, i just love thick ridge crisps. They are made under the English company KP snacks in 85. They used to have Mexican chilli flavour which was one of my favourites. They have also had some great limited edition flavours such as chicken jalfrezi and lamb vindaloo

      @FinnLovesFood  Před 2 měsíci +2

The limited edition flavors sound very interesting. You definitely wouldn't see crisp flavors like that here.

Really good crisps especially the cheddar and onion, because they're thicker than normal crisps they are good for dipping, you can try diced onions mixed with tomato puree or ketchup like they have in the Indian restaurants instead of poppadoms and now you have quite a few relishes you can try with them, those crisps are also good for making crisp butties, enjoy your weekend and hope to see you on Sunday

Hi Michael, I immediately thought of dipping these crisps. Our ridged chips are called Ruffles and I usually get them if I want chips and dip. It has been quite a while since we've been to an Indian restaurant. I'm not sure we have the same type of sauce here. Hope to see you Sunday too!

Harry Ramsden's was a famous fish and chip restaurant (of the sit down and eat in variety) in Guiseley, a small country town between Leeds and Bradford, dating from before WW2. I think that I ate there once. It's location combined with it's supposed quality meant that it became a venue for coach trips from the nearby industrial towns and cities (clean air, a drive through the countryside, a meal, a wander around a county town the a drive back though the countryside). As time went by tastes became more exotic and more people had cars and more disposable income and it's main customer base became progressively older and possibly inevitably it eventually closed, but the brand name still seems to have had value and has been sold on, more than once I believe. As far as I know the name is the only link to the original - a homage, perhaps, to simpler times.

Murgatroyds in Yeadon used be favourite of mine near to Ramsdens in Guiseley. Maybe was location of Ramsdens led to its downfall, probably reason Murgatroyds been on cross roads by lights draws more in. I've not been Bradford way for 6 years or so is Murgatroyds still busy ever?

Sound like it would have been a nice day out back in the day. After a quick Google search, it looks like they have some franchises and offer a lot more than fish and chips.

Thats only issue when u got more than one fish shop chains will eye up how much money making. Rather just being a single site like Billy Murgatroyds more chance staying afloat and keeping quality up.

@@rthoc71I haven't really been that way for a long time beyond Leeds. I don't know Murgatroyds I'm afraid, I'm in South Yorkshire but went to university in Bradford in the 80's and later went to Baildon quite regularly in the 00's as I had a friend there, although we are no longer in touch unless she's trying for the world record for the longest strop 🙂. When I last went Bradford seemed to be recovering a bit with the Sunbridge Wells tunnels, although it might be too little, too late, but at least the 'hole in the ground' has gone - that was always a go to for 'Look North' on a slow news day 🙂. Apologies if getting a little parochial.

@@FinnLovesFood Yes, but I'm not sure what they are like, I read some comment about them being very expensive, although they may be comparing restaurant prices with take away prices, and I think that the original wasn't cheap. As you say, if you worked in a dusty, noisy mill all week, and lived in a '2 up 2 down' 'back to back' house, in a maze of streets clustered around the mill, just to get out into the countryside must have seemed like paradise ....and then a good meal all, no doubt, included in the cost (group discount)!!
Afterthought - for traditional dialect song (mining district but very similar) on the above life search in CZcams for Dun't Pu' Thi Muck In Aah Dus'bin Tony Casey.

Good to see you both on this sunny/cloudy Friday afternoon here in Lincolnshire, UK. Hope you're getting good weather there too.
I like all McCoy's crisps. The spicy varieties are great. Love chicken tikka masala too. Go on, dip the crisp in. Why not?! Indian food is a 'chef's kiss'. The UK's now favourite take-away/eat-out food, I believe. Harry Ramsden started his fish and chip shop in 1928 and later opened a world-famous restaurant, both in Guiseley, West Yorkshire (I used to live in W. Yorks and have eaten at this original restaurant..yum).
Have a great weekend guys. Hope to see Finn too soon!! 😊

Try this (pro tip) make a sandwich, 2 slices of bread with butter/margarine add some cheese, slice of ham, (slice of tomato and/or cucumber) and a dash of mayonnaise.. and then add a few crisps/chips .. and then add the top slice of bread.. press down firm;y, slice in 2 halves and sprinkle a few crisps/chips as a small side with it.
Yeah, i know, you are most welcome.. now you have a uk sandwich..
Can swop in as you wish coleslaw, mustard, tuna, sweetcorn, pickles etc etc etc.. white or brown bread etc etc..
Just remember to add a few crisps/crisps inside the sandwich for that bit of crunch… and something moist like mayonnaise to make it a little less dry.. takes it to the next level.

Mc😂Coy's is a brand of crinkle-cut crisps made in the United Kingdom by KP Snacks. It was first produced in 1985, 39 years old...(Same year I was born) and is marketed under the slogan "The Real McCoy's - Accept No Imitations" ("Don't Deny The Beast" in current advertising), exploiting the Scottish idiom "the real McCoy". McCoy's is the third biggest brand in the bagged crisps market, with 5 million packets consumed each week and nearly a third of all UK households consuming the product. It was once promoted by United Biscuits "as the only overtly male-targeted crisp brand".
