    very nice, just bought this set so it's nice to see a proper tutorial that just uses the stuff included in the set and noting else. Great tips on how to mix paints to get more nuance to the figure.
    As for favorite army in 40k, it got to be the Blood Ravens. Bought a THQ bundle from Humble Bundle back in 2011 or 2012 that included Dawn of War 2 and all the expansions, that game is still one of my all time favorite games. After that I've always been enjoying the 40k universe, but never bought any figures. And red has always been "my" color (we are three brothers so the color designated to me was red) and Blood Raven red combined with the black and white-ish parts looks really good. And how can you not love how they act more like magpies, hoarding relics and knowledge.
    Wonder if I would have been a smurf lover if I started with Space Marine that was also included in the bundle.

      Welcome to the hobby, glad I could help you out. I still play DoW: Dark Crusade from time to time as it's my favourite RTS, I really want to know more about the shady origins of the Blood Ravens and their rampant kleptomania. Red is absolutely the best colour, my leather jacket is red and as such strangers get my attention by saying "hey red guy". As for Ultramarines, I guess the issue is they never feel like the underdogs, even when they take losses it still feels like they are the best at what they do. Space Marine was the only time I really liked them just down to how insurmountable the odds felt. Thanks for the kind comment, I really appreciate it.

      Depending on the paint but normally not more than 10 to 15 minutes, washes/shades can take longer sometimes. You can visibly see the difference between wet and dry quite easily with these paints so don't worry about it too much. Welcome to the hobby and I hope you have fun with your first model.

    I am really sorry , I know this video is 2 years old but if I got that kit but I did get a Black and Grey primer.
    I am assuming I can skip the first part with painting it all black, simply use the black primer and then move on to painting the the base blue ?( minus the weapons)
    However since it's just a primer, I am assuming I might need to add a bit of black afterwards to certain parts like where the joints meet and so on.

    • @JimsTableTopWargaming
      @JimsTableTopWargaming  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello there and welcome to the hobby. Yes I would recommend using a black or grey primer (grey works better for the blue) instead of the Abaddon black painting phase.
      If you do use a black primer and if you get any blue paint on the black parts between the armour: I would recommend using the Abaddon black to touch up those areas, keep in mind the primers will look slightly different to the potted paints so you may need to touch up any black areas with a thin coat for them all to match.
      It is always a good idea to prime with spray paint if you have it available as it makes the rest of the paint stick better.

      Perfect. I actually just got some rust primer paint. Got a Flat White. Grey, Black and Navy blue.
      Since I figured maybe I could use black primer if I am painting them blue? It's a primer + paint. And then use the blue that came with it to add layers afterwards ?

    • @JimsTableTopWargaming
      @JimsTableTopWargaming  Před 2 lety +1

      @@sergeys80 Yeah absolutely, the black primer would work perfectly fine and you just layer the paints from the kit on top of it. You can substitute the black primer for the grey or white primers if you prefer, you may find this makes the other colours slightly lighter depending on how thin your layer coats are. That's really down to preference, if you are not sure just stick with the black. Hope this helps

It's just a quick way of adding that edge weathering with low effort and makes the model more visibly striking, a way of breaking up flat solid colours. Some like it, some don't and that's why it's an optional step. Edge highlighting is pretty common in 40k so it's good for people to know, although I recommend something better than the starter brush as it's not exactly precise or fine with the lines.
