- Today I take a look at the new Space Marines: Assault Intercessors + Paints Set from Games Workshop. Apologies for the out of focus camera throughout, this was originally going to be a painting tutorial but I forgot to turn off the auto focus. Decided to salvage what I could as best I could without re-shooting.
Music used: Deep Horrors - Kevin MacLeod - Zábava
My first GW order and first mini painting. Thanks for the video.
Welcome to the hobby! I'm glad you found the video helpful
Don't buy directly from GW, find a cheaper seller.
This video's great. I've always wanted to start painting, and this kit seemed great to start, but I was unsure of the official videos -- thanks for the tips and references, as well!
Thanks for the comment and welcome to the hobby! I'm glad you found the video useful.
I'll just paint them brown as my own original chapter, the Blultramarines.
Very cool, I always appreciate an original chapter. Its a great way to show your creativity and have something uniquely yours.

Very helpful, thank you. This kit was my first.
Thank you for the comment, I'm glad you found the video useful.
This is my first 40k miniatures and I was wondering if they were all this small they look bigger in other videos and online lol
Welcome to the hobby and yes I agree it's hard to identify the true size of the figures from the website. I laughed the first time I saw a Tau Hammer Head in person, so tiny.
Get primarais marines there slightly larger
Thanks for the review. I just ordered this set on Ebay. Its got paint I need and 5 figures...29.75 usd. Not too shabby. Thank you
Sounds great, glad you found it useful

Very. And it was such a economical buy. 6 pots of paint is approximately 42/50$ and I've already bought an assault intercessor squad for 25.99$ and that had no paint.
Given that the eyes are recessed into the surrounding helmet, it might be possible to get a decent look on them even if using the kit supplied starter brush. Paint the eyes first, obviously the size of the brushes tip almost guarantees paint will overlap onto the surrounding helmets surface but that's not a big deal. Once the eyes are dry, carefully paint around the eyes on the raised up surfaces and the rest of the helmet. It should be easier to do that way as opposed to the more traditional eye lenses last with a detail brush. Just my two cents. Thanks for the video. 👍
I appreciate your feedback, it's a great comment and will likely be helpful to others starting this kit. I did consider the eyes in terms of mixing a series of light grey paints and overlapping them to create the usual lense effect, wasn't sure how that would turn out with the brush size. Your suggested method would have allowed me to make corrections which I had not considered. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing your advice.
new to the hobby great video
Welcome to the hobby, glad you found the video useful
By the way I'm your10th subscriber yay
Thanks for the sub and welcome to the channel! Excited to see we hit the first milestone, truly appreciate the support.
Very helpful thanks!
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the video
Thanks for the review! Was wondering about the value of grabbing this box vs a model kit + individual paints. In Canada, it's about $4 cheaper than a Space Wolves pack with 10 models.
Thank you for the comment, I am glad you found the video useful.
I believe the starter brushes are synthetic, whereas the normal brushes by GW's are natural hair fibres.
Correct, although only the artificer brushes are pure sable. The rest are a mix of both. Starter brushes are entirely synthetic.
@@JimsTableTopWargaming ,no kidding. I didn't know that. Thank you
Great vid it looks like you are a professional and can you please make another painting video on these guysbecauseI got this set a few days ago for my birthday
Happy birthday! I've got a painting guide video using the included paints up here: czcams.com/video/g-yeeGOSxKs/video.html I wish you the best with your painting.
Thank you
So the included shade paint shouldny be used as nurn oil?
You can use the included shade paint as a substitute if you do not have nuln oil in your collection. If you check out the tutorial I did for this kit you can see the results and decide for yourself. I hope this helps
@@JimsTableTopWargaming this will be my first paint and models I've got model cutters I'm going to get black spray primer and an exacto knife tommarow
@@JimsTableTopWargaming I was asking cause another review used them on the base plate
@@PZY.Studios To shade the base texture or to paint the rim of the base? It's good that you are getting those things as you will need them, welcome to the hobby.
@@JimsTableTopWargaming thank you I've never done any minis before but I'm very excited to start would you say these starter kit / paint kit paint pots go very far or should I order more I ordered an apothecary as well a few minuites ago
Would love to see the tutorial!
I have good news, it's been filmed and in focus this time. I've set aside Wednesday to get it edited and I aim to have it published before the weekend.
@@JimsTableTopWargaming Looking forward to it
@@JimsTableTopWargaming me to
If only it wasnt all marines
They do a Necron one too if xenos are more your thing
@@JimsTableTopWargaming Be nice if you could pick your own faction to go with them!
I agree, more variety and choice is always appreciated. I know people who would buy them if they did a Tyranid one for instance as humanoid models do not interest them.
If they had a set like this for Skitarii, I’d order it without thinking
It's too much money for too little, at least in my opinion. GW used to offer a lot more bang for your buck with these back in the nineties.
I can agree that the amount of paint included is not exactly ideal, I would have liked to see more variety or the exact paints that GW recommends for Ultramarines. But I still think that this kit has value to someone coming in to the hobby for the first time as it's less of an investment, especially if you find it discounted elsewhere.
