You are not alone! The man who stood up during her performance is a world-known opera singer. He was blown away by Diana, too! She is impossibly talented! You are correct that she uses larynx placement/manipulation in spectacular ways. She also sings with polyphonic overtones to achieve that hypnotic/mesmerizing effect. And she is only 18! She is still growing and getting stronger! And that vocal tone! OMG!!

This is very different competition, all the judges are contestants as well and they do marks on each others performances, all the participances must choose/sing one song from 9 different categories whether that style suits them or not.

Some details of this performance:
Yaaay Diana Ankudinova (now 18) finally got a new chance to shine in professional environment after 3 years.
The ShowMaskGoon is a new TV show on Russian NTV channel, every saturday (8 episodes left), where best/winners of 3 music shows (The Mask, You are Super, Superstar) perform,
and vote giving 2 to 9 points to each other at every episode's end. So those sitting up there are the other singers, Diana sits with them when others perform.
They got only one 9 point, one 8 point, etc.
So they are forced to give 2 points to someone, and they wont vote for themselves.
(She got 7x 9 points, 1x 8 points this round. The guest star of this episode gave 1 point to everyone equally)(72 total)
In each round, the participants will be offered nine topics: for example, one will perform a folk song, the second - a song by a Grammy award winner, the third - a rock hit , etc. "
The nine categories are: "People's Hit", "Song of the End of the 20th Century", "Soviet Song", "Hit from Every Iron", "Song of Your Choice", "New Music", "Song from a Movie or Cartoon",
"Rock Hit" and "Songs of the Grammy Award Winners and Laureates".

I dare any woman on earth to match that tone and timbre. Diana is ONE IN A BILLION. There's absolutely no doubt she's in the top 10 best voices on earth.
She sings this whole piece singing using only the first three lines of Elvis' original. She’s such a gifted arranger (edited to add: please see below, she didn’t arrange this piece), on top of all her other skills 🤯🤯🤯❤️❤️❤️🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 p.s. So I can't wait for you to react to her performance from yesterday show. This song got her voted by her peers on the jury #1 for the night. This week she got voted last.
I understand she didn't want to sing the song "Mama, I'm dancing" but singers don't get to pick their songs. She did the best she could with it. Whether her performance was deserving of last place is another matter".
There is actually a good reason for that. You can only give out each score once, so someone will always get a 9 and someone will always get a 2 (from each singer). Diana's performance last week for the Grammy category really motivated everyone by setting a bar. The result showed this weekend. I thought everyone did much better overall as there were some really solid performances. Especially from Julia (who won the day), the older lady (who Diana gave a 9 to), and the dude who sang Stay. Haven't quite learned all their names yet. I recognize the Cyrillic for their names but not yet the phonology for them. Fortunately it's a phonetic script so I'll get it eventually. Originally I was just going to watch Diana's performances but since they are uploading the full episodes to watch and some of these people are starting to show their true chops I'll be watching the full episodes. This will be good for Diana to not have a free win (people need to be challenged). Will also be good for the other singers.
There is one "your choice" category. It will be interesting what Diana picks because she really likes the road less traveled. Could be really ethnic/tribal with her yodels on full display or something else entirely. With her love of the 80s based on her previous covers (Bananarama, Scorpions, A-ha) I wouldn't be surprised if we got something involving the electric guitar. Ever since she did that Scorpions cover I've been waiting for something like that.

I love how she isn"t just another run of the mill pop garbage that these show produce, this women is 1 in a million totally captivating.
This was her first song in this competition, and she scored 72outof73. None of the other singers came even close.
Skill, training, and the same gift Cher has...except, dare I say, Cher doesn't have this young lady's vocal range. I hope she keeps herself surrounded with some people that are honest, and have integrity. Hell, we've all seen "kid" stars get fkd over by some bad people masquerading as friends, managers, and family members too. I wish her well.

You can compare Diana to many other singers, but no one of this comparison will be true. It is not only her vocal range what makes her stand out, you can add many more other qualities to it: unbelievable stage present and acting abilities, tember, emotions, polyphonic sound. Skill, probably not the right word. TALENT and hard work.

Greetings from Scotland! Diana had no choice with this song, it was allocated to her and she had to do the best she could do with it. SO, what does Diana do - she takes just the chorus and turns a love song into a love tragedy! Darken it, slow it down, inject a ton of emotion then just sing it like only Diana Ankudinova could sing it! 18yo and she pulls off a genius stroke with an oldie classic like this! Damn!
