It is interesting to note that Diana Ankudinova turned 18 last year when this performance took place. This cover of the Elvis Presley classic, "Can't Help Falling In Love" now belongs to her and it really demonstrates that Diana has a true contralto voice, a rare female voice type, in particular, the quality of her tone, timbre, the roundness of her sound, the resonance, and depth of her voice define her as a "dramatic contralto", the rarest of the rare type of contralto. Diana is also a real polyphonic singer which in itself is also a rare talent and is a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which makes it sound like two different voices at the same time.
Diana does this through the resonance created by the airflow through the lungs, throat, and mouth and tongue placement which is why some people mistakingly think she is using a voice synthesizer to manipulate her voice, or there's another voice singing, or she is singing over a pre-recorded track, which she is not. To really listen and appreciate her vocal progression you should listen to some of her previous songs:
1. Rechenka - A Russian folk song, sung in Russian when she was 14 years old.
2. A cover of Chris Isack's "Wicked Game"- Sung when she was 15 years old.
3. Then listen again to the now 18-year-old Diana Ankudinova sing "Can't Help Falling In Love".
Also, on average the vast majority of female singers don't reach their full vocal maturity until they are 22 to 25 years of age. In May of 2022, Diana Ankudinova will be 19. I am looking forward to what Diana will sound like when she does reach her vocal maturity. With several more years of voice training with her voice coach. When she does reach her full vocal maturity with the additional years of vocal practice plus adding several more years to hone live performance skills on stage there can be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a wonder to behold.
Also, the judges on this panel are all professional singers themselves and they compete and judge each other on this show. By the way, the judge on the top row that stands up is a famous opera singer that's well known in Russia. As an FYI, Diana won this competition.

Diana in her performances takes you to another dimension. I remember my first reaction, I was driving to work in the car when i saw the teaser of this performance for the first time. I was in shock, stopped my car and reviewed it many times. I couldn't believe that this is the Diana i know.
Diana is much more than just a singer. Her re-interpretations on covers create new songs which she then combines with a stage presence that is uniquely hers. Her original songs are just as impressive. It seems there will have to be a new language created for us to use when speaking about her. All the languages that people have used so far have been inadequate and they just mumble or say "WOW" and then struggle to say anything more because there are no words to describe what they have experienced.
Yeah, dude, it's hard to describe what Diana is doing...and most importantly, she does not strive for originality, everything turns out by itself...by the way, she sang this composition in a minor key, unlike the original.😋

At the age of about 12 she auditioned on a show for disadvantaged children and sang/yodeled. It is called 'Jodel Time'...really extraordinary...the audience absolutely loved her but the judges didn't turn their chairs around, even though they were obviously fascinated by her voice. They asked her to sing something else and she sang a French song acapella...but she was not chosen. What did she do? As the audience cheered her, she went up and gave the judges a hug! Completely captivating performer, even at the age of 12!
And also you could do 'Wicked Game' and 'Rechenka' both at the age of about 15 in singing contests... utterly spectacular voice! Also she sings a beautiful and uplifting 'Into the Sky!' Enjoyed your comments on her....the background is as extraordinary as the performer. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment.
Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on CZcams. Two months ago, at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of CZcams 'reaction' videos, and millions of viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation. Diana Ankudinova sings mostly in Russian, English and French. She has also sung in other languages including Spanish, German and Arabic. A viewer: 'At the age of 5 she couldn't speak her own language, and now she is this angelic singer that the world will soon discover! How can one watch her and still doubt past lives?'
That show was a scandal. Talk is that the judges were directed to award 1st place to another girl.
Small correction: that was not a show for disadvantaged children (like "You are Super"), but a regular "Voice Kids" contest. Diana was 13yo I believe. 🙂
Bravo for introducing this wonderful child to the public. She is peerless, one of a kind. God almighty compensated her for her childhood sufferings, he made her a worldly figure, made her a star with a unique voice that gives her persuasion power, and personality to conquer the pinnacle of the music world. Diana was born in May 2003 in the Far East of Russia. She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had 12 pregnancies, only Diana survived ... and she abused the child and tried to drown it. One day this 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage. There she finally found love ... by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist who treated the children from the children's home. Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared, but she could all sing songs from cartoons. A doctor recommended singing lessons. And so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started …
Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range C3-D6). Diana's voice also sometimes has a polyphonic undertone. You hear: Her voice sounds an octave below the singing voice. (But not everyone can hear that.) Diana also has a perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a little girl.
Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions.
In 2018 and 2019 Diana entered a unique competition and won twice. This project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition: 'You are Super', especially for adopted and orphaned children.
The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to CZcams and soon she had millions of fans.
The project producers help the finalists start their studies and encourage their creativity. Diana won a scholarship.
Igor Krutoy, here as a juror, gave her a small apartment (37m²/398,26 ft²) in Moscow. There, in the small flat she lives with her mother and grandmother and was able to begin her vocal training with the best teachers.
2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student a year earlier than it is 'normal'. That alone shows how smart and hardworking she is.
She applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is totally normal and healthy. Now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute for Theater and Variety Arts. finally got a new chance to shine in professional environment after 3 years!
The ShowMaskGoon is a new TV show on Russian NTV channel where the best/winners of 3 earlier music shows (The Mask, You are Super, Superstar), 9 singers perform 9 songs of 9 categories
over the 9 shows/episodes, and vote/judge each other at every episode's end. So 8 of them (+ the guest) are watching while one of them perfoms on the stage (which not only got interactive background, dancers, etc. etc. but also 2 performance in every show is supported with VR technology, giving full virtual surrounding to the performer), singing live.
So at every show's end they are forced to rank the others, where 1st one gets 9 points and the 8th gets 2 points, they won't rank themselves. Also the guest has 9 points to distribute any way he/she wishes.
In each round, the participants will be offered nine topics: for example, one will perform a folk song, the second - a song by a Grammy award winner, the third - a rock hit , etc. "
The nine categories are: "People's Hit", "Song of the End of the 20th Century", "Soviet Song", "Hit from Every Iron", "Song of Your Choice", "New Music", "Song from a Movie or Cartoon",
"Rock Hit" and "Songs of the Grammy Award Winners and Laureates".

Diana sang this song by Elvis Presley in the first episode of the competition 'Шоумаскгоон' (ShowMASKgoon). This was Diana's first adult competition in November 2021. She was the youngest competitor (aged 18) and wowed contestants and spectators with her first song.

I need to listen to this a few times…it’s initially weird. The contralto part of her voice is deep and very dark..almost satanic. Dramatic is about the best summary I can come up with. Wow, great post.
If that was your first Diana experience, then we need to go back in time. She is 18 in this video. Go back to when she was 14 and listen to Rechenka. Then when she was 15 with Wicked Game. Then when she was 16 with Derniere Danse. Then when she was 17 with As Your Voice. That will give you a deeper understanding of Diana's musical artistry.
