It's not polyphonic, but she has some weird harmonics in her voice that sometimes makes you hear a second tone in het voice.
Honestly, the question of whether she’s actually polyphonic or not still baffles me and confuses even the most experienced voice professionals 😅 her voice is just so strange and weird, in a good way.

Plus she is polyphonic which is why is sounds like 2 voices at once. Even more rare! She has a very sad but triumphant life story. Abused and abandoned by her birth mother. Couldn't speak. Broken. Her adopted mother was suggested to take voice lessons to learn to speak. God blessed her with the dramatic contralto polyphonic voice at 14 yrs.
She does some lovely covers of Wicked Games, personal Jesus, and Human but her best covers are of The Crow and Rechenka (the river) in Russian.

She sang those in Russian competition shows when she was 14 to 16 years old. Diana never fails to send chills through the listener. Read her back story...it is sad and uplifting at the same time.

However, she had her breakthrough when she was 14 in a show for underprivileged children where she sang the Russian traditional Rechenka (czcams.com/video/fEcvVINA304/video.html), which I regard as one of her best performances. Igor Krutoy, the billionaire producer/composer/pianist that you may know from your reactions to Dimash, was one of the judges on that show, and he awarded her with a personal stipend renting her an apartment in Moscow and enabling her to study music at Russia's most prestigious conservatory. This will be a solid basis for her future carreer as a musical artist.

Diana's contralto voice is so rich and full of dark chocolatey colours. Her timbre is similar to Cher's but imo, Cher didn't explore her lower ranges as much as Diana. Plus Diana's range is incredible; she's worked very hard! I love hearing her. Diana, the unique singer and songwriter from Russia was born in May, 31. 2003 in the Far East of Russia. She is 1,65m/ 5,41ft tall.
Diana didn't have a happy start in life.The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived. She did not love her child, cruelly abused him and tried to drown him.
The 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage. There she finally found love ... from Irina Ponik, a massagetherapist. Taking a young child into the family was not easy for Irina. Her son was already 20 years old, daughter Nastya 17 years. Now start all over again? Yes!!! Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared but she all sing songs from cartoons. The doctor recommended singing lessons and so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And it all started at the age of 5...
During 2008 to 2012 Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions.
Her mother, Irina Ponik, turned her whole life inside out and started all over with a new motherhood and many new professions - seamstress, manager, vblogger… admirable.
Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances, competitions, looking for sponsors is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She took extra sewing courses too. Since then, she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget.
Irina accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary. It is admirable how she promotes her daughter's career, teaching her how to fly but makes sure that she is down to earth Remains.
Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win.
In 2012, Irina's family moved to her hometown of Toglyatti, much closer to Moscow. Diana lost her fear that the woman who bore her would kidnap her.
In 2017 Diana went to Moscow, to 'The Voice Kids'. In 2018 and 2019 Diana entered a competition 'You are Super and won twice. That project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition especially for adopted and orphaned children.
The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to CZcams and soon Diana had millions of fans.
The project producers help the finalists to start their studies and promote their creativity. Diana won a scholarship and Igor Krutoy (Russian music titan, billionaire, juror and sponsor) gave her a small apartment (37m²/ 398.26 ft²) in Moscow. There she lives with her mother and grandmother and was able to start her vocal training with the best teachers such as Professor Olga Donskoy. (She died of Covid-19 in October 2020). Now Diana is taught by the great Alexandra Pismennaya, who was a student of Prof. Donskoy.
Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. She also has a perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a little girl. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range C3-D7). Her voice has natural polyphonic overtones and sometimes specifically an undertone = sub harmonic. (You hear the voice an octave lower than Diana sings. It's not that you hear a clear tone straight away, it's more that you feel like there's something in Diana's voice or the song has been edited. Not everyone can hear that.)
Undertone singing is a singing technique that belongs to the main category of overtone singing in which the vibration mode of the vocal cords is modulated to produce sounds that are below the singing tone.

The break of voice made Diana’s voice even darker and deeper. She has mastered this time very professionally and has worked hard to bring back the lost high notes and has expanded her vocal range, currently from C3 - E6. Her genres are folk rock, folk pop, but also jazz, soul, blues... and always in the unique Diana style... Tradition meets modernity.
She loves to sing in French, but also sings in English, German, Arabic and Spanish... but only phonetically so far. She plays the piano and ukulele. She composes and creates her own songs.

2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student a year earlier as “normal”, applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is normal and healthy. Now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute for Theater and Variety Arts (Juilliard similar to GITIS).
In October 2021 Diana was invited to her first adult contest on Russian television 'The ShowMaskGoOn'. She won!!!
In December 2021, Dianas released her first CD with great success. Maestro Krutoy had introduced Diana to the excellent singer, songwriter and producer Brandon Stone. With Maria Tarasenko (songwriter), the trio created the 9 songs of the album and received gold in June 2022.

We've watched about eight reactions to this performance. This is the best reaction. None of the "professional" voice coaches picked-up on the dual nature of her voice. It;s kinda like a bagpipe drone underneath the melody. And yeah, we were/are just as shocked by Diana Ankudinova.

Diana just feels like an unstoppable force of nature. So this contest is a singing contest with professional singers. They also judge each other, so what you see is a group of her peers reacting to her. I'm guessing for many of them it's the first time they've heard her sing. If you can find videos of the entire show they are worth watching as there were so many excellent performances during the show, but Diana stood out above the rest, and yes, she did win the whole thing. 😀

The first thing she does with this song is that she change the key note from major note which is the one Elvis Presley sang to a minor note. The second thing she does is she drops her laryngth to give it this dark color to the song
