Rechenka is an old Russian Folksong. This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage. She says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper. These are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying. In Russia, at weddings they sang sad songs to scare away evil and the marriage of a young couple was to be happy. Such songs were called ·weeping.· The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest.
she is an orphan being given away in marriage to the unloved. She is asking for blessings from her deceased mother for a marriage that will not be a happy one. The children in the yard are playing and laughing, but wondering why the girl is so sad; they are not celebrating. In the boat she is going to her wedding with resignation towards a sad life.

And the fact that she was taken to an orphanage at the age of three after being left by her mother at a bus stop with a broken collarbone makes it all the more poignant when she sings it.
Not true. The line where Diana whispers is translated as "Why are you sitting there [then for the whisper, she says .. ] and not smiling?" She's talking about her baby (some say it's her brother, but that is not in the song), not her mother. Only thing in the song about her mother is she says she has no parents. She doesn't mention her mother at all. Her baby is sitting there and not smiling. Why? Doesn't say.

This harkens back to an ancient, pre-Christian tradition where the river represents barrier between life and death. A young bride on her wedding day is sad because her parents are dead & can't be there for her.

Yeah, everything you said! Haha ... What's also impressive is how she stays on beat in the first and third parts of the song (the slower parts). There's no rhythm, per say, in those two sections - just basically a musical drone - yet she's flawless in her accuracy.
Recently, at concerts, Diana performs this song a cappella. Once she asked the audience not to clap to the beat, so as not to confuse her with the rhythm that is inside her.
Let me explain what happens when all 4 judges slap their buttons. Diana sings a Russian folk song, and folklore is a very conservative genre, because folklore is much about old traditions which need to be cherished. But Diana uses yodeling elements in her vocals, which are NOT a part of the Russian tradition. The classic yodel is usual in Southern Germany or Switzerland. Most likely, at first, the judges are simply shocked. Diana breaks the canonical tradition, and no one can pass by without noticing that. But Diana uses the yodel extremely accurately, in a dosed manner (and in a modified, not classic form) - to convey the drama of the situation in the song (I feel that in this place the heroine is crying, perhaps this can be called 'an internal cry'). This is so appropriate and convincing that the judges are unanimous.
This is why she is The Goddess Voice of Nature.

The chanting as you said... Here she is really using her yodeling skills. Yodeling involves repeated and rapid changes of pitch between the low-pitch chest register (or "chest voice") and the high-pitch head register or falsetto.
It has been part of traditional singing in many countries.

👉 Rechenka/ River - This is an old Russian ritual song: An orphan girl should to get married and goes to the river, the border between the living and the dead, and asks her mother for the blessing (mother's whisper) ... The horses are in the courtyard. The guests are gathered and the wedding celebration begins. In Russia, it was customary to sing sad songs at weddings to scare off evil. This should drive away evil spirits and bring good luck. Such songs were called 'crying'.
Diana's rendition of this song is spectacular, mysterious... great!... everytime. Lately she sang this song acapella, also to prove that she sings live without a synthesizer or anything like that.

Good thing you had your seats belts fastened because Diana still almost brought both of you out of your seats. You can easily see how deep in the zone she gets and emotionally involved in her performance. For Diana it’s not just about singing, it’s also about the total performance. There’s one song that actually made her cry at the end. Besides songs in her native Russian, she does them in French, Spanish, Arabic, and English. Don’t hesitate to react to her non-English songs because just the timbre of her voice is worth the price of admission. I’m a musician too and I’m enjoying your reactions very much! She like Dimash and Hua Chenyu can not be put in a box or compared to anyone else. They are all just incredibly unique. If you have not checked out Hua Chenyu... you so need to. He is another brilliant artist from China. One minute he sings ballads, one minute he is rocking out, the next minute he is rapping, the next minute it is a theatrical performance that has you crying your eyes out. Chenyu, Nunchucks is a good start because he changes several times in one song.

Please react to Dimash’s performance of “Diva Dance” from his Bastau concert (make sure to pick that particular performance). It is the song the “alien” character in the movie The Fifth Element sang. It was so difficult for a human to sing that for the movie they had used computer-generated voice to sing it but fast forward to years later where Dimash with his inhumanly human voice nails it so perfectly.
