Agreed. You can make the argument that a doctor not wanting to work with their patients obesity and lying to them is neglect. Just like it would be neglect if a doctor refused to tell a patient they have cancer or refused to do anything to treat that cancer patient. It’s straight up neglect to me

Hierarchy isn’t about knowing more in a specific field than someone else. It’s about power. I think a doctor-patient relationsship shouldn’t be based on power, but on trust. On the trust that you know that he knows his shit. So no, I think a doctor-patient relationship should nor be based on hierarchy thus power!

    Hi Papa,
I can’t agree more with your words.
I am a Veterinary Surgeon and sadly, this SJW speech has come to this field. The majority of clients don’t want to listen to me when I say their pets are overweight. Some of the clients even feel extremely offended. It is very common seeing overweight/obese owners owning overweight/obese pets.
I can’t understand the victim role and how selfish people can be. Animals don’t have the need of social attention and don’t victimise themselves, and guess what: they literally suffer because of their weight.
Painful arthritis, endocrine problems, higher risks with anaesthetic, intolerance to exercise...and pills that can cause kidney failure in a long-term, just because (most of) the clients don’t want to listen the truth and feel offended because they can see themselves in their pets.

As a groomer, I've had to tread lightly on this too. Had a few dogs and cats that were so overweight, they couldn't stand for the whole groom and several had UTI because they couldn't reach to clean themselves. Some have fat rolls covering their butts and vulva. It's sad. One dog is so heavy he torn a tendon in his back leg and his owner still says he's fine and just big boned. I hate it. People can choose to fat, animals are stuck in our care and rely on us.

I work in a medical office and if we received a letter like this we would put it right in the shredder no doctor deserves to be questioned when they present the facts, this patient would be viewed as a law suit waiting to happen, non compliant waste of time. I've had the same doctors for over a decade. One for almost 15 years, I was one of his original patients. He threatened to drop me for non compliance if I didn't lose weight...he said, I'm responsible for you, I'm going to help you fight for disability because you're going to be in a wheelchair in a few years and then I'm washing my hands of you. He said some other doctor can stand by and watch pieces of you get chopped off. Less than a year later, I dropped almost 100 pounds. I shudder to think about it still because the outside date he gave me was I'd be in that wheelchair by 2019 and dead probably 5 years after that. People need to be told the reality of their health status.

The fact that she wants her doctor to be a "collaborator" and thinks she should set "standard of her care", shows me two things:
    1. She thinks that in a medical setting (a doctors appointment), the doctor is her equal, even though she has received no medical training. Gives me very narcissistic, delusions of grandeur, type vibes...
    2. She has no interest in the advice or knowledge that a professional expert can offer her at all. Instead she desires to look down upon experts because they are not as ideology driven as she is.

I have a rare form of a genetic condition called Noonan Syndrome and It very important that I take care of myself and stay at a healthy weight because it can affect all the systems of the body. I can't even get a referral to a dietitian because she feels that it is not necessary. She won't even do the bloodwork required for my condition. One point I will add is that I acknowledge that doctors don't know everything. You definitely have to be your own advocate if things don't get better after listening to a doctor. I say this from experience with a mother with a rare cancer where several doctors made critical mistakes during her treatment, later corrected by other doctors (we lost her two years ago, and my view of doctors has changed a lot). HOWEVER, denying your own disease (mental and physical) due to your own delusions isn't the doctor's fault. It's a fine balance between being your own advocate and delusional. Many medical pros are super overworked and miss certain things, especially when what you're dealing with is rare or often misdiagnosed (I have endometriosis and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and it took 5-10 doctors to diagnose). Obesity does not fall into any of those categories, pretty obvious that you're obese and have issues associated with it, any GP can diagnose obesity.

This woman’s letter was designed to impede any realistic conversation about her actual physical condition.
She is signalling to her doctor that she is unwilling to accept medical facts that advise that obesity is a health risk.
If I was a doctor, and a patient came in with a letter like that, I would simply tell them that “I try to treat my patients based on the many years of training, experience and perpetual education that I have attained. To do otherwise would be medical malpractice. I refuse to tailor my medical advice to suit any other agenda. I frequently have to tell people news that they probably do not LIKE to hear, but NEED to hear, to face their condition, and the best course of treatment, head on. This is my ethical responsibility, and I will not abdicate that. Therefore, I cannot be your doctor. I advise you not to restrict the means, methods and terms of your medical care. This is detrimental to your health. Best of luck.”

I know it’s been a year since you posted this, but I just started watching your content. I don’t agree with you on EVERY level, but I agree with most of your content about the HAES/fat liberation community. I was obese for 10 years and yes, there are times where medical professionals were focused on my weight - like getting five diabetes blood tests in a year when none of them showed I was even pre-diabetic, I ended up having Rheumatoid Arthritis that developed after a bad bout of flu that affected my joints. However, my weight was a concern overall and I was never mad at my doctors for saying as much. It’s their job & they weren’t wrong, it was just frustrating to get tested for the same issue over and over when it kept coming up negative, as if I had no common diabetes symptoms but it still managed to pop up in a matter of months. My rheumatologist didn’t mince words, ever. She talked about my weight every appointment and shamed me for drinking a Starbucks when I came in with one. My weight and my diet were affecting my inflammation & while I can’t cure the condition with weight loss I could help it. Still, it took the shutdown to actually start losing weight. Not out of fear of the virus, but because I ate at home. I wasn’t working for 7 weeks because my job was forced to close & in that time I lost 25 pounds, I felt great and kept going to 50 lbs down. I still want to lose 25-30 lbs, but the motivation came from realizing how much better my life was without the weight. I’ve been a runner for 5 years, and I had better endurance JUST from losing weight than I had from training for races. I no longer have acid reflux that wakes me up at night. I can squat ass to grass and touch my toes again.
You may very well have good blood work and blood pressure, you may very well be active, but you don’t realize how much your body is holding you back until you lose weight. Movement is so important to me with my RA, it helps with stiffness and pain and keeps me off of steroids because my flares aren’t as bad. I’ve eliminated most lactose because I realized that it gave me inflammation and that helped my flares. I didn’t give my favorite foods up, I just learned to balance, and my life is better for it.
But the sad thing is, the rhetoric now is that former fat people are the most fatphobic when we talk about how much we’ve benefited from losing weight. Like fam I just want you to find the joy and physical comfort in my body that I have, I don’t hate you.

When I told the doctor afterwards that it hurt worse for three days then didn't feel any different he said that it didn't hurt worse. That is a situation where it's time to question their intentions and go elsewhere. Not when they tell you that you shouldn't be 300 lbs and 4 feet tall.

I'm kinda upset that she thinks that blaming culture, country or race somehow takes away from health? Like sure some cultures use food as a way to bring ppl together, to celebrate or whatever but you can't wonder why the people in your community or country are getting sick and when given the solution you're like "but my culture." That doesn't change the fact that you're unhealthy, also even if food is a big part of your culture, why not eat less or add more healthy options to that? I live across the road from a mall, so mcdonald's, wendy's, taco bell, and a five guys is literally a 5 minute walk for me, we literally choose what we eat or what we are willing to pay for in most cases. There's an Asian market about a 10 minute drive from me, where I can go to, to buy a variety of fruits and vegetables and make my own food instead. She needs to stop blaming everything else for the choices she chooses to make and then get mad when her doctors tell her that a lot of her medical issues are related to her weight. Thats literally their job
