The thing that really ticks me off is they removed your review. It's one thing to let him screw one person over, but then to basically set the trap for the next guy by removing the warning review makes it feel like a giant crime ring.
Sounds exactly like AirBnB's tactics.
I’ve seen this happen with FCP Euro when they sold defective parts and I left a negative review. They removed it and the part still had glowing 5 star reviews. You CANNOT trust any reviews on the company’s own website because the control what is shown. Always check independent sources for everything. They’re in the business of making money, anything that goes against that isn’t in their best interest.

If Turo removed your review, that means Turo is as shady as the guy you rented from. Regardless if they eventually sided with you, that's shady removing a customer's review. So avoid Turo completely then.
Turo is weird too. Depending on the car owner's plan. Turo could collect money from a damage claim and if it's less than their deductible turo just pockets it. So strange
I've rented a few cars from Turo. What I noticed is when renting a nice car (last one was a 992 turbo) after you book, they almost always say something like "well that car isn't available any longer, but if you rent from our site, you can get a better deal", so they send you through a non-turo site, I assume, so they make more money. It worked out, and we had a blast with the car, but overall a bit weird.
With all the things I've read about Turo I decided that the $30 a day Mirage with unlimited mileage and all damage covered from Enterprise is fine with me when i need a rental.

I can tell you haven't rented a car since covid. I just looked and it's $66.08 a day for the cheapest class of car and that's before the insurance which I highly recommend getting. I rented a compact car for 5 days in Orlando last year and it was over $800.

I've personally experienced enough issues with Airbnb to stop using it for good and have heard enough bad things about Turo to stop using it as well. Big company hotels and renters are too big to care about minor things so they're my go-to for the foreseeable future.
Both Turo and airbnb suck. Hosts want you to do a partial cleaning before you leave and they charge you a cleaning fee. GTFOH

You only one experience of being run over to know you should always be careful (if you survive). It doesnt' take much brains to figure that out (or evidently it did in your case).
Never ever do business with Turo or any company like it. Same thing happened to me. The thing is ppl rent out their personal car or fleet, thus having skin in the game. Rental companies are a faceless corp and pay low wages to their employees, thus they don’t give a f…
The issue is the company has little to no say in the matter. Just that the owner of the cars are scummy. I mean I would say read reviews but one should be careful. And know what you are doing when you rent a car. Turo is better as in they let anyone rent a car or become a host but then again I'm I'm sure that causes the issues we see now. Also most people I know with a turo fleet have a manager who picks up and drives the cars to the pickup locations. There is bound to be damage in that and there is no way the owner will know if the damage is from the customer or the manager.
I had a really bad experience with Turo the one time I tried to use it. I arrived in my target city and found out that Turo had cancelled my reservation without letting me know. They said I did it but I did no such thing. Left me stranded. I'll never use them again.
Had a rental lined up in Miami, called the guy the morning of pick-up and he denied I even had a reservation. Turned out they killed mine for a longer renter. Never used them again.
You have been saved by Turo from Turo. Real headaches begin when you actually do receive the rental vehicle
Turo is garbage and now more expensive than the actual car rental companies. One time I rented from Budget rental car and backed into a curb which caused slight damage to the exhaust pipe. I didn't choose their insurance when I reserved the car so I fully expected them to file a claim with my insurance for the damage and they never did.
I always go around and take photos of every part of the car when i pick it up to protect me in case anyone or any rental company tries to pull this on me!
I do it when I take my car to the dealership as well. Inside and out. Both when I drop it off and when I pick it up.

I've learned this lesson from U-haul. Now I do it with anything I'm renting.
I have seen so many horror stories with Turo that I deleted the app and have completely purged them from the options list. Too many scumbags that overshadow the decent speculators and too much opportunity for abuse and excess fees.
The Turo scam is basically the Thailand jetski scam on 4 wheels. Don't rent a car through Turo. Don't rent a jetski in Thailand.

I’ve only rented once from Turo. It was the first time driving a Tesla Model S. The owner was great. Unfortunately you don’t really know if you get a shady owner or a decent owner.
I've used Turo several times with good results. But last summer we paid > $1200 for a two-day Jeep rental, easily double what we expected. The main issue was that we got a flat tire which the seller had repaired (replaced the tire) at the most expensive place possible: the Jeep dealership. It's also where he worked, go figured. We had the extra Turo insurance, but Turo convinced us to not make a claim because of an 15% fee (IIRC). In retrospect I've learned my ins. co. covers Turo rentals so I shouldn't have spent the extra $170 on it. But anyways, I'm not renting another Turo they have offer LDW policies similar to the major rental companies. Otherwise, the risk of incurring very high costs just isn't worth it.
I have rented many luxury cars on Turo including the C8, Lexus LC500, several Supras, so on.. and have never had a bad experience thank God.
Two more sales. Hm. I'm all for thinning down the collection (I think it's a shame when they sit undriven like that) but knowing it's for a changing life situation is a bummer.

I have had similar experiences with traditional car rental outfits (especially overseas). I now take detailed photos of every rental car just to avoid the money grab of these companies/people.
You don’t need to apologize to the seller Hoovie. I find it hard to believe that they wouldn’t have noticed any of the leaks during the time they owned it even though it may have been a short amount of time. They didn’t disclose the issues plain and simple. The only reason they are willing to try to make it right is because of your platform. If it was anyone else who didn’t have your following, I’d doubt they care.

I had a rental from National that went through a hail storm when I had it and had hundreds of hail dents all over the car and when I returned the car I told them and they said "no problem" and that was the last I heard about it.
I rented a car from one of the big firms on holiday once and one day I came back to the car and someone had tried to lever the door with a screwdriver or something similar. The company never mentioned it, it must have been a regular occurrence.

I knew a guy few years back, got dinged with "under body" damage. Amounted to a scratch / gash on one of the guards under the car.
Exactly I have never had an issue with the big car rental companies.
I rented a car from Thrifty with a windshield that made a whistling noise. I tapped on the windshield and the entire thing cracked. I took it back, told them at the counter and never heard about it again.
As a Turo host, I invite you to Jacksonville, FL to rent any one of my cars and see what an experience should be. This absolutely is a host who is trying to nickel and dime people and is not about creating experiences for others. Sorry you went through that Tyler!

Yea I have looked into renting through Turo and never pulled the trigger as I have heard horror stories from last minute price increases to no shows. I've stuck to regular rental car agencies and I have been well served.
There’s no way I would want to deal with the headache of renting thru turo (or anything similar) you just can’t trust that the other person isn’t going to try and scam you

I'll never do it again after getting a "must be hand-washed before turning in the car fee" on a Tesla model 3. Never had to pay it but Turo customer support was basically no contact about the entire situation. Probably ok if you find the right host but as a renter how are you supposed to do that, this guy had great reviews, I guess all those other people just paid it.

I used to try to use it, but the fees basically double what you see as the list price. Then, there’s the coordination that must take place for pickup and dropoff and the chance that the host cancels. Much more trouble than it’s worth. I started renting through national for $42/day at most locations. About as good as you’re going to get and almost zero effort.
I have seen this happen to other people! It is a scam and they will do that to everyone who rents the car.

Wizard going from "money money money" to "oh I owe you money" was the best part of the video. Also - from a guy watching all the US shenanigans from Latvia - when you rent a car from Turo (or any other rental you don't 10 000% trust) - take your high-quality DSLR camera, high-res camera phone or whatever else you can muster - and take a literal crapton of high-quality zoomable pictures BEFORE RECEIVING THE CAR - if it's delivered in person, preferably with the owner/rentor in the pictures, with the remaining pictures having the same date/time stamps on them. Photograph the bumpers, handles, lights, edges of the car, interior, seats, etc. Then - when you hand the car back - if all is good - you'll have 500 free pictures (you're not using costly film, are you?) to remember a great car/vacation by. If however the owner/rentor starts pulling any BS - you can immediately go "F off sumpitch, I got pics" - and make him screw off with tons of evidence. If Hovie had done this - he wouldn't have to pay anything - not even 78 bucks - and could just ridicule the rentor until the end of time. Anyway. Jeaolous of the kid's first car - well earned, little Breaking Mad. Best of luck from Latvia.

I feel sorry that you had to deal with that owner. I’m a Turo Power Host with over 1,000 trips here in Las Vegas also. Here’s some tips to hopefully help everyone here if you ever rent on Turo.
1. If it’s your first time renting, rent from an All Star host. One with at least a few hundred trips. They will have a system down and probably won’t try to nickel and dime you.
2. Take your own check in photos every time. I recommend this with any rental company actually. This protects you.
I believe most turo hosts are good. But just like anything else, you will run into some that are not. Its bound to happen in an open marketplace like this. Limit your risk by following the 2 tips above. And remember that the negative experiences are always louder than the good ones. Especially when social media is involved.
Glad you and WEEZerd worked out an in-store credit for the Citroen. My step-father when I was WAY younger had one and it got hauled off for scrap from my Grandmothers place.

Everytime I've rented through turo, they've tried to sting me for obvious existing damage that I ensure I heavily documented at the time of pick up.
Oddly, I had a Subaru door handle become scratched to heck over a short period of time. One morning I looked out and a bird was perching on it!
This is a problem with sparrows in my parking area. They use the rear view mirrors as perches, and also the side window mouldings playing with the image they see in the mirror, thinking it's another bird. The glass if full of pecking marks. So, the mirror casing and mouldings get scratched, and there's bird poop all over the front doors. I now turn in my mirrors when I park and tie a plastic garbage bag over the mirror as they dislike the rustling sound.

The thing I always do when renting a car is taking a picture of it as I get the keys before I leave. It’s a good habit to have and can help you not get in a bad situation.

It might not be his fault. My brother’s wife left him last year, and he was very good to her. It just fell apart.
I have rented Corvettes on Turo a couple times and I have never had an issue other than my total with fees being a couple by hundred dollars more than the original rental price. I rented a C7 Z06 for 5 days and I paid just over $1200. I think it was a fair price and I definitely enjoyed myself. I also went over on mileage lol.
I've never used Turo. I've WANTED to use it...but everytime I find a car, there seems to be some kind of issue/cost, etc that makes renting it more of a pain than going to my usual National and just getting in what I want to drive. I've heard lots of these nickel/dime stories and yeah, the fees are silly. $96 for 2 days of "standard insurance" no way. So now I'm like....what's the point if I'm going to get scammed on fees. Same thing for Airbnb, which I have used, but if the host charges outrageous fees, I don't rent it.
You can decline it and use your own personal insurance. Many hosts like myself would work directly with you. Not all of us are emotionally attached to our vehicles.

@@itsnotme07 some insurance don’t consider peer-to-peer sharing as rental coverage but many have recently changed to covering them. I’d check to be sure.

Wow. I was looking at Turo rentals in Vegas yesterday for an April trip and this car was on my list. Not now though!
In Vegas it is not just Turo doing that lots of car rental companies do that also. When I pick up I video a walk around with attendant make sure you get around the trunk and under the bumpers and the door sills. They try to get you say you parked over a curb and when you backed out scratched under the bumper where there is a ton of scratches or around the trunk on top of bumper say you dragged a suitcase over it and inside the doors saying you dragged you feet over and scratched. Oldest trick in the Vegas car rentals.
THAT ALTERNATOR PROBLEM IS EXACTLY THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED TO ME.
It’s listed as an S600 alternator on one of those Euro parts websites. But the batch is screwed up on the mounting. Local shop fixed mine by adding some washers on the bolts to align it correctly.

I rarely hear anyone apologize in this day and age so thank you Tyler for standing up and doing that. I think a lot of CZcamsrs might have not even mentioned it in their video. But it takes a big person to apologize like that. I had a very similar situation with a vehicle I bought several years ago, except for the fact that I didn't have a CZcams channel with millions of subs. Lol. But I blamed the guy for not disclosing a few things and it got back to him. And he immediately called me and explained that he had no idea about the issues and I completely understood it. So I did apologize.

Not the first woman of that kind I've seen marry a highly unlikely match of a white boy, then take him to the cleaners once he's successful. Squeezing out a few puppies only adds to her take, and she knows it.
She timed it absolutely perfectly. She now has an anchor baby, car and home prices are at record highs, and Hoovie is at his best career wise right now.

We used Turo once in Hawaii. Based on reviews from others we took a hundred pictures of the car before and after we brought it back. I made sure the car owner was there when we picked it up and took it back. To protect myself.

Small world. I was vacationing in Vegas around this same time and saw this listed. It looked too good to be true. I ended up trying to rent a GTR instead for "$298/day". After fees they wanted close to $1k. I got a cheap 2 series beater instead for around $200. I took about a hundred pictures before and after highlighting every single thing I could find since I've heard horror stories like this. I've used Turo about 10 times and have never had an issue, but stories like this sketch me out.

This story is a good example why it's worth taking a few minutes to go over the rental (regardless who's renting it) car before getting in. I always take a walk around video (with evidence of the time and date), providing verbal commentary on any damage, issues or imperfections; it makes it very difficult for anyone to come back and claim damage on the car with such counter evidence.
Thing is, your video likely wouldn’t have noticed that tiny scratch.
But why open yourself up for this BS? Get a rental from an established company and be done with it.

I never had issues with my turo renting experience. I really like that theres so much more to rent than the standard budget car option.
Glad to know that some hosts on there can try and run scams but now with this video, hopefully all of that is nipped in the bud. Guess I will have to take tons more photos and video of the rental next time around just to be on the safe side....

I host turo from the Uk, honestly only had one issue were the guest completely damaged the door by accident.
We went through Turo’s insurance and it got sorted, had plenty of other trips though and no issues it’s been great.
I have 5 starts reviews and don’t try scam anybody.

Same exact thing happened to me on a Z4 rental from LAX. I think the answer is to take REALLY good pictures and upload them when you pick up the car.

The idea of Turo sounds nice on paper but I've heard too many bad stories to ever want to use it. Plus the fees are always high. I've always rented cars through Enterprise and have never had a bad experience. The one in the Las Vegas airport is especially great and have given me free upgrades several times.
My son rented a pickup from Enterprise. He picked up some chippy with it and that night while he was sleeping, she wasn't and stole the damn thing. Enterprise was super about it, the insurance paid the whole thing. Police found it wrecked and beat to hell.

The trick with turo is to look at the total price (which is not what it sorts by) instead of the daily price. The fees are all within the control of the "host" and vary a lot. It can be cheaper to pay an extra $20 a day in some cases because of the fees. And always take lots of pictures and video. I'd also stay away from any high dollar vehicles - way way more likely to get scammed on something that rents for $150+ a day than something that rents for $35 a day.

That's why every car I rent I go around car and take photos from every angle, roof, doors, bumpers top and bottom, wheels, windscreen. It has saved me numerous times when returning rental.
It's not just Turo, but a lot of the smaller/local rental car outfits, particularly around the NY/NJ area.
There are bad people everywhere that get innocent people to pick up a tab that has nothing to do with then.
They all need to be shouted out.
This is why I stick to traditional car rental companies. Never had an issue in all the years or renting
Until they report the car stolen and have you arrested for literally nothing whatsoever. I'll take the nickel and diming over being cuffed and stuffed for a fantasy crime.
