    So to summarize 10mins of video:
    -Knowingly sold lemons on EBay
    -Got dinged by negative feedback from sale of lemons
    -Created fake accounts to artificially inflate his own feedback rating
    -Scammed buyers by making fake bids with fake accounts

    This guy is a great salesman but this is why I'm not in car wholesaling anymore. Car dealers see nothing wrong with almost every immoral, unethical, or illegal tactic as long as they're making money. Yep, proxy bidding on eBay or in a live auction is CORRUPT but, unfortunately like here, it happens all the time. I sold an Acura TL on eBay back in 2006 myself. In fact, I used to sell a LOT of stuff on eBay but like many here I quit after one buyer tried to screw me back in 2015 (I think) and eBay did everything they could to make it MY problem. I got PROOF from the delivery company that the item had been delivered and SIGNED for by someone at the address. The buyer claimed it was "stolen off his porch". eBay backed him but paypal verified the delivery and backed me. Never did business with eBay again after that

      He is the wrong, but it's also true there are some realities of business that a strict and outdated 'feedback' system doesn't really do to protect those just trying to sell cars.
      "I bought this used for $8,000 less than I would have at a certified pre-owned dealership, runs great, but I don't like the fact one of the brake lights was out when I drove it away...1 Star, will never do business again"
      Kinda silly when you think about it. Doesn't justify necessarily what he did, but when you don't have a bunch of employees, and no brick and mortar location, and you're trying to make a living off a platform that does nothing to protect or promote you...sometimes you might have to fudge a few things to make a profit.

My father-in-law, for example, finds items he likes, makes a list, and then has me place the order for him, which is smart, that way I can check it out and make sure its legit, and I also know the rules a bit better. I mean really, eBay is now very muchso catered in the buyer's favor so I don't think the fear is really necessary, but there's always someone pulling off some scam on these platforms (even Amazon has been getting hit with tons of scam sellers lately).

I've times where I finally scraped together enough funds to responsibly bid on a piece of equipment badly needed only to have some Jerk use an underhanded play to deny that purchase at the last minute, when I set an upper limit that is all I can spend. VINwiki can I suggest that you make playlists by the storyteller .. e.g if I am a new follower and want to watch All Ed's videos it would be easier to watch a play list rather than going through each video on the channel trying to find the ones u want to see .. so please sort the videos into play lists by the names of the story tellers. THanks

      It wasn't illegal till 2006, this was set before then. (Edit; Im an idiot, ignore this)

    • @JohnGuzik
      @JohnGuzik Před 6 lety +23

      Shill bidding is a federal offense and goes back to at least the 1950s. Ebay's TOS may have been updated in 2006, but in the eyes of the Feds, it is wire fraud and people get prison sentences for it. 18 USC 1343.

    Really great story, and a great storyteller too, but remind me to never buy a car from this guy! he would have been fine if he hadn't have gotten greedy... Fake accounts to boost feedback, shill bidding, that's illegal!

  • @SpudEater
    @SpudEater Před 6 lety +79

    So he's basically one of those people that turned me off of ever buying a car on ebay. Isn't what he did considered illegal? Kind of a sleazy tactic if I say so myself..

      Yes, illegal Federal law. Might as well hear stories about financial success made by bashing in windows with a brick and stealing merchandise, selling drugs, or pimping.

    • @elitewolverine
      @elitewolverine Před 6 lety

      Yes and No. If I see a car, bid, and it goes above what I want to pay...then I don't pay. If you keep bidding...your fault. Illegal? Yes, because you can create artificial demand.
