I think this is one of the coolest stories Rob has told.
Love this channel Mr. Bolian
The coolest one is the street legal stock car story
Have to agree Ed! Looking forward to seeing you on the next Car Trek episode! Can't wait!
I poop too much
Ed, I concur
This is the most American Dream story I have ever had told to me.
Theres a reason it's a dream. Insider knowledge or wealthy family is always how that kicks off.
Space Cadet more like abundant knowledge, he worked 40 years to have the opportunity to come across something like this. 40 YEARS!!!
@@spacecadet0 Uh, there was 40+ years of HARD WORK and one huge risk involved, as well.
Plus a family loan folks.
Space Cadet yes of 50k something he could’ve gone to the bank for but family bears no interest
This should be made into a movie and the starring role should be Rabbit as the Water Company employee
I totally second that man
i can see that happening. maybe the son could be the water company employee though?
That's a great idea.
Better than anything hollyweird is making now!
I'll pay to see it!
This guy's ability to tell a story is top notch.
Rabbit has those stories that make you want to go out and live more
That was the best way I've ever heard a story described
Yet those kinds of opportunities are long dead and gone. Now guys like good ole dad here sell e-books on how they got rich quick because they know that well is drying.
Totally agree. He is a great storyteller.
Well put
But the story has massive holes in it... MASSIVE! 401k did not exist until created by congress in 1979, the highway construction occurred in 1962..... nearly a 20 year hole in the story
That story would make a killer movie. Literally the American dream.
The end would be pretty sad with the car never making it to his dad but it would make for a good movie
I'd watch it!
You mean cheating a poor-ass family out of their land?
Oh yeah, well, it is isn't it..
I’d watch
@@tanelpolts7257 Damn so by your logic if I buy a #4 scratch off ticket and the guy in line behind me also buys a #4 scratch off ticket but I win a million dollars did i screw his "poor ass" out of all that money because i was first in line?
Does your heart good to hear something went right for someone who worked hard his whole life. One of the best stories I've ever heard Rabbit tell. Thanks, man.
It's corruption. The guy used insider knowledge to make himself rich.
@@seananderson5850that’s the only way, inside knowledge
@seananderson5850 you don't gain insider knowledge without working for it though 🤔
"I love you boys with all my heart and you're the only ones who didn't look at me like I'm crazy"
Dammit rabbit.
Got me too man, all I got from my old man were black eyes.
Cutting onions.
Most touching line was "neither of you called me crazy." Glad their faith was rewarded 😁
But their Mother got a car too and she definitely called him crazy.
@@velmawhite9830 she gave him two kids and all the poon he could ever want despite coming home dirty from digging ditches for the past 30 years.

You know Ed doesn’t have to do much editing when Rabbit comes to visit. Story structure is his game, among other things
He's a used car salesman. I haven't met many that don't know how to talk because they aren't in business. Rabbit could probably sell salt water to a sailor.
Alex Duke as one myself, I agree
Rabbit could sell your own car to you for twice what you paid the day you meet him.
Gift of Gab, A Superb Top Notch Comedian, A Masterful Hustler @ whatever He's involved it. A Spirited Natural.
@@alexduke5402 as a salesman, I agree. However there’s a difference between understanding story structure and being able to sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves
This is easily one of the greatest underdog stories ever, this has to be a movie
And you just know that this guy who was selling his car to Rob was experiencing some of the best catharsis of his life, telling the story of his dad's success and how much he meant to his family. A sympathetic audience, listening with rapt attention to such a fascinating story. I'm certain that guy went back home after selling that car and went to give his dad's old Jaguar a polish for old time's sake.
This story is one of my all time favorites. Hope you guys enjoy ! Thanks for having me down Ed! - Rabbit 😎
Always love the stories!! 🤙🏼
@Rob Pitts - it was incredible man, so glad you shared it with us.
Right up there with my late Uncle John - i could listen to his stories over and over too
Rob you are the best story teller on here.
You're the man Rabbit!
"Small block chevrolet, all good Fords will have" that made me laugh.
I had to re-watch it twice to make sure I heard it right lol
I. Love fords don't get me wrong Chevy and dodge along with Mopar make me stand up and salute as well. And have own a few.
But as young kidbi found ford starters only had one wire to then . it was in possible to hook them up wrong and did not have to deal with any shims installed a starters.
Love all the old cars of the past not like today.
Time?
@@nicolasrulli czcams.com/video/gGm_1HCEYJg/video.html
Sorry. When I see a SBC in a Ford hot-rod at a car show, I just keep on walking. SBC's aren't better than Ford small-blocks; just cheaper. Which makes zero sense in a $60K build.
Holy shit, I think that my wife’s family were the original owners of that land that they mentioned in the beginning with the 3 houses. I have heard stories about how they owned that plot of land or the one next to it for generations that became Haywood mall many years later... 🤯
How could they know that it was going to be worth that much they didn't get to see the plans that's why now days people at the bottom don't see plans that just for the top so the rich get richer like the story but it's shaded as hell
If we only had a crystal ball,
I'm sure in some technical way it broke some laws, similar to insider trading.
@@BobbyGeneric145 Nope. It's not illegal because he never got told where it was at.
It's just the guy knew the area well enough to know there was only one possible location and bought it.
Wow
this story was so captivating, that I didn't even read the comments while listening rabbit talk
This story and the risk involved with the payoff just brings tears.
Story is fake, check out when the 401k was created by Congress.
@@andrewkirwan517 people use the term 401k sometimes just in reference to retirement accounts. There were retirement accounts in the seventies. I'm not saying the story is true or not, but I wouldn't hang my hat on that fact.
@@andrewkirwan517 Interesting. I wonder what the explanation is on that.
It would never work today. Back then men could do whatever they wanted financially and their wives couldn’t stop them. Today...shoot
Scared money don’t make money
Rabbit has a way with words. Now imagine the stories he can't tell publicly
We need a private channel.
Rabbit after dark podcast 😎
For some reason, I feel like he has a few stories involving establishments featuring women dancing, and probably some strange powdery substance
Rabbit starts an only fans😂
Most every story can be told publicly after the statute of limitations runs out. The ones that don't have a statute of limitations you probably don't want to hear.
I'm a huge car guy myself, I also have prospects in the real estate business. I also live in Greenville SC... this is by far my favorite VinWiki episode ever. What an amazing story of the American Dream! Don't work for your money, have your money work for you. What an inspiration. Thanks once again, Rabbit!! I hope to meet you one day.
Same here! Huge car guy going into real estate myself. At first I went in for the wrong reason which was you can make a lot of money doing real estate and I realized how much you can do and I fell in love with the idea of it. Being able to build all the cars I’ve ever wanted is just a bonus
Fellow Greenville Native. Was also blown away. Edwards road is just a few minutes drive from my apartment.
The American dream. Insider dealing, land speculation and ripping off the people who lived and worked the land for generations. You’ll do well in real estate.
Hey, Ed -just found out, yesterday, that you know my son, Daniel. He didn’t know that I was a subscriber & big fan of Vinwiki & all of you guys. Small world, huh? And, as usual, another story well told by the Rabbit
That is probably the coolest story Ive heard here
What about douchey Casey putsch
Thanks. Came here to say that. It kept me riveted.
K W Please elaborate! ¿Por favor?
@@Thatguy55595 Douchey? Really?
*Anywhere!
"The very first plane he stepped on, he owned" damn that's a goal
Absolutely blown away by Rabbit's story and how he tells it, a great gift.
What a great great family man. He put it all on the line to make a better future for his family. Makes me think of my own father and the sacrifices he made so my mom and brother could have a better life. They are rare men, but a cherished treasures.
I already know it’s a banger when I see rabbit in the title
thats like the only reason i decided to listen lmfao, im from south georgia so every time i hear one of his stories i feel like hes a local and it just makes the stories better lol, rabbit and doug can damn sure tell a good story
Facts
TRUE
a hoot and a holler, if you will
I'm happy for that man
He died knowing he put his family in good hands
God bless him and his family
I love it, I love seeing a fella work hard and get ahead. I hope he enjoyed the heck out of that Jaguar. we lived in Greenville in 1972 when I was just a little kid. My mothers Bertha still lived in a dirt floor house. How times have changed.
Rabbit needs to write a book with all of his stories, then turn it into an audiobook and then read it.
I live a 2 minute walk from haywood mall. I probably live on the exact land that that mans dad sold, thats mind blowing.
This is what I was looking for, someone local in Greensville. Couldn’t figure it out myself, don’t see a 285 in South Carolina, just North Carolina.
Curious to see what the land was used for
Oh he tells what it is in this one. Last time I heard the story he didn’t say
That’s the kind of story I want made into a movie
That is such a great story.
The most incredible story I’ve ever heard in my life!
I went to Furman University in Greenville. Hearing Rob stories is always great, but this one hits the closest to home since those roads and landmarks were my stomping grounds at what feels like just yesterday.
This is the best Vinwiki story to date period!
I AGREE!!
Ah, a feel good story about insider information and crazy leveraging and risk taking.
That's the American Dream right there. Gamble big and hope somebody else is on the other side of the loss. People only remember the winners.
@Cipheiz nobody lost out here, everyone made money. Nobody got screwed. The widow got a fair price for her land so she could downsize comfortably. The commercial developer paid a fair price for the realistic value of the mall site.
"No Risk No Reward" one of my favs from Rabbit
I heard this story on his own channel. I grew up in that area going back and fourth from Asheville to Greer.
That story was absolutely epic. Full attention all the way through. Glad that mans father lived a good life, seemed like a great man.
I remember Rabbit telling this story on his channel. It was a while ago but Rabbit is one of those guys you listen too and remember his stories. You hope to God you can use his knowledge someday. Plus my dad worked for the city for close to 40 years he told me stories similar to this but he NEVER pulled the trigger. Hopefully some day I can pull one of these off. I've been a ditch digger for the city for 25 plus years. I've never had the chance to do a deal like this but you never know.
Fingers crossed.
Love the stories Rabbit ya never know I might get a deal like this someday and if I do expect to see my ass down at your shop picking up a vehicle from you because I know you only pick perfection 😉
It's called insider trading and it's a felony.
I knew I heard this before....
@@Benedocta if you're caught.
Afterall, what makes you think they still dont do it? I promise you that they do.
That guy wasn't on the inside tho. To be inside one has to know the whole story and be involved. Besides can't really charge a dead guy.
@@jonanderson4474 I'm not mainly talking about the guy in the story. But mrbobsshow here is working for some city, hoping to gain some insider info to do a deal like this at some point. That's a good way to go to prison.
I just got lost in this story. Truly the epitome of the American dream.
This is BY FAR my absolute FAVORITE story I have ever heard and this is the 4th or 5th time I've heard it but I still love hearing it. Just imagine how it felt to be in his shoes that very special Friday night, he picks up the phone probably swallowing a bit of his Cheeseburger and then finds out he is a Multi-Millionaire, he probably wen to purchase new pants after hearing because he probably s**t himself. He also was not a moron and "pissed" away all the money on stupid unnecessary material possessions, he was very wise, paying back his brother the $50,000 and giving him interest even. That is what should happen when someone receives a ton of money, TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE.
Small block Chevy, like all good ford's have.
Rabbit speaking some truth
Damn I didn't realize he said that lmaooo
Rabbit is so suave that totally went under my radar. What a gem...
No he ain't....
Sbc's are heavy, and have poor power to weight ratio in stock form, so rob is kinda wrong on this one,
This man deserves a movie. American dream.
Goosebumps. Nobody tells a story like Rabbit. This is one of my favorites!
I’ve come back to watch this story a solid 20 times. I just love it. Gives me the push I need to keep grinding so my family can be like his.
This is the first time I've ever seen my hometown of Belton, SC mentioned on CZcams. What a great story.
I think this is one of the coolest stories Rob has told. quoting ed and i agree!
It's a cool story about using his 401k that he had maxed out for years and cashing it out to buy the land in 1977. The only thing is, the 401k plans were not around until 1978, which is after the story says he had closed it. He bought the new Jag a year after closing the deal in 1978, which is the year that the first 401k plan was launched.
Story gave me chills. Excellent
Big fan rabbit wanna learn more about your success in life please do another story about your self!
If I recall correctly(iirc) his channel covered his growing up and success
The story is twice as cool when you live in upstate South Carolina.
For REAL, I can't believe I never heard this story before!
Yup, first time hearing this as well. It's a great story made even better by being so personal to our town. I've spent the last 25 years living within 10 minutes of that mall, and it's wild knowing that a few short decades ago it was all nothing but a handful of houses on 250 acres.
The single best story ever told on CZcams. Period.
What a story, smart investments might not always seem like the best Decision to Some but when you believe in yourself anything can happen and that can change your life for you and others forever
Rob Pitts tells the best stories ever. Damn, I miss my pops...
This is one of the best stories I’ve ever heard. And being told by Rabbit even better
This story needs a ton more views.
Nice story and especially kudos for cutting back on the ads!
This is my absolute favorite story from Rabbit, I could listen to it over and over. Glad we got some more details on the story on this one!!!
The guy we bought our house from originally rented it to us. Great guy, always gave us a month of free rent in December to make sure we had money to get our kids Christmas presents (unprompted, he just did it) and anything we ever needed he was on it. His dad started an owned a gravel company that grew into a multi-million dollar business from nothing. Nicest family you’d ever meet. The only time you ever knew any of them had money is when they gave it away in one form or the other. All of them work hard to this day even though they don’t need to.
Those kinds of folk deserve every penny they get and this fella and his dad sound exactly like the folks I know.
Great story Rabbit! Nice hearing all the local name drops. We live in Asheville, NC not to far. Down in GVL all the time.
As one little peon at the phone company, this is some inspiration I needed today.
Water company
I don't think rabbit and speechless go together. Dude is a storyteller of a high caliber.
What an amazing story. Just shows how being in the right place, at the right time, adding in a little grit and risk could alter an entire family’s life for the better. Loved this one!
This story still gives me chills hearing it.
Living in Greenville SC right now this story is Amazing!! Wow!
Favorite story Ive heard ever on Vinwiki
The no risk no reward episode!! Half those listens are from me, one of the most epic stories of all time. Literally the last fabrication job I did, was a huge copper part, something out of my wheelhouse. While I was talking myself out of doing it, I remembered the no risk, no reward episode. Fast forward to last week when I dropped the finished masterpiece off at the customers house, they absolutely loved it, I’ll be damned if it didn’t pay off pretty damn well too. That job will likely transition my business into custom residential fab work.
This is why I love these stories of yours Rob, there’s always little golden nuggets in there that can be implemented in other aspects of life. 🤘🏻🇺🇸🤘🏻

“small block, Chevrolet, all good ford will have” 😂😂😂
Ah yes, nothing like an ugly, heavy boat, anchor of an engine.
I had heard the story growing up, but not any of the details, thanks for telling it. Someone the family knows did something similar - he had owned the land where the Hilton was built at Pelham & Haywood. It paid for his daughter's lavish wedding :)
That story hit me in the feels. Not quite to the extreme that was in this story but it reminds me of my grandparents going from dirt poor to taking 2 badass vacations a year with all of us and buying 10 acres of land and building a really nice house on it.
My favorite story rob tells is this one. I love old stories like this ive watched and listened to this story well over a dozen times
I have found very few people who can grab my short-ass attention span for so long, Rabbit is the best storyteller.
Nice to hear about a hardworking man becoming successful.
What an amazing story! Late grandfather in law made a similar move on a much smaller scale back in the 1960s. Little patch of dirt near a two lane road that turned into a prime retail spot next to a freeway.
This is insider trading where the commodity is land and the company is the USA. I'm sure a court would have found this illegal.
Best story teller on VinWiki hands down.
These are the type of stories that get on this channel and nowhere else. Thanks!
I'm calling it, my favorite vin wiki episode so far is this! Best story teller hands down.
I don't even care that this is mostly a non-car story. It gave me goosebumps

Wonderful story! Heard it before on Rabbits channel but great to hear it again, truly inspiring.
By far the best Rabbit story I’ve ever seen. Made my day
Rabbit is just an amazing story teller and what an incredible story
Great story. Greenville is a beautiful place, I've visited many times. Thanks for sharing this. Greenville has great people and a neat downtown area.
Great story! It was even cooler that I live in Greenville and I'm from Belton and my aunt was a fixture at the water company.. I've gotta go check out Rabbit's shop!

No lie, this shit made me tear up. Love watching this channel for these stories but this was definitely Rob’s best. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Had to share with family and friends. 😊
Thanks for all the great stories
Greenville is my back yard! I know some great stories that happened in the surrounding counties. Got a similar story from Gaffney. Local milk man overheard the family squabbling over 50 acres of wooded lot they inherited and would not come to agreement what to do with it and how to divide it. He offered to buy it all from them. They agreed to it but thought he was crazy buying this overgrown lot. The milk man hired a logging crew and sold the old growth hardwood timber right away and recovered his money. Then he sold the rest and made a killing on it. That family didn't know what hit them.
I love this story. It tells me the american dream. I can listen to Rob talk all day.
I fully believe that when the guy told Rabbit this story, it took him 16m and 37s
