The KLF spent 1M of THEIR OWN MONEY on a spectacle to get people talking, THAT was the point. All this talk of “what a waste!” and “shouldn't that have gone to charity?” should be directed at the government, who spend countless billions of YOUR money ALL THE TIME. (How much have you given them that's been spent on war?) Always remember who the wasteful spenders of money actually are.
Have you read the book - "KLF Chaos Magic and the band who burned a Million Pounds" - by John Higgs - gives some insight into what they were about and attempts to explain what and why they did it?
It's the best way to get a tax write off I've ever seen. "Where is the million quid?" 'We burnt it on camera' "Sure you did....Nice new Porsche you have there and that holiday home in Italy. Who owns those two?" 'They are on loan from a guy who has an offshore trust'
The KLF- the unspoken heroes of electronic and alternative music. An absolute inspiration to me under my name ‘Headsmoke’ with the satirical lyrics and outrageous elements.
The book tell you as some example to buy your own records to increase your odds of being the most sold album of the week, how the hell this wouldnt work?
Yeah and it's now even easier. These days you can forego the studio hire and do it all from the comfort of your own home on your iMac. Which is along the lines of how things progressed from The KLF, through House, then Garage, grime, dubstep, etc.
Why do people get so upset with the KLF for burning that money....how many other artists spend the sniff the same amount of money up their noses or spend that much on a couple of parties? But nobody thinks there is anything wrong with that. It is insane
The KLF predicted DAWs and home recording. "It's obvious that in a very short space of time the Japanese will have delivered the technology and then brought the price of it down so that you can do the whole thing at home"
In fact the Americans (Atari) and the Germans (Steinberg) made the DAW and the hardware to run it on, but the Japanese (together with Americans) made the infrastructure which was the base: MIDI. The best affordable synthesizers and drum machines at the time were all Japanese: Korg M1, Yamaha DX7/TX81z, Roland D50/TR909/TR808/TB303/JV-series, ... and so were the samplers: AKAI. Without the Japanese electronic dance music would have been completely different. They were topnotch!
Burning the money is the most punk rock act I can think of that has ever actually happened. The Sex Pistols were still trying to shift albums after they split, even if it was down to Malcolm Mclaren or other record industry money men. Practically everybody, in the West anyway, has the vast majority of their adult lives being dictated to by money or the pursuit of it. K Foundation gave a big fuck you to the concept of money. Mad bastards.
"We did a record with this band called Brilliant, the reviews were phenomenal and it got to 58 in the charts. I remember saying to the guys, fuck that for critically acclaimed music, you can't pay the fucking rent with that." - Pete Waterman Bill Drummond was the A&R man whom signed Brilliant. Maybe, "The Manual" was a result of Drummond working with Waterman and seeing his assembly line, superficial, monetary, pandering view of music, Kylie Minogue and the KLF are not the same.
Truth is, as the Manual says...all pop music is copying itself, there is a formula. But today the pop music is less varied than in previous generations of pop wonder!
the KLF are the Justified Ancients of MU. If you understand then you have a certain higher conscience that we share as brother's and sister's. If you cannot and will not begin to understand any of this then you may have already fallen victim. We are the people and the time has come, Hail Discordia!! We are a peaceful, loving and caring civilization that live among you and i only hope for you to one day step into our skins and see what we see. This following list of comments are an indicator of our number, Number of our fallen family member's and those not yet enlightened to which i say and to all "We've got to teach and everything we learn will point to the fact that time is eternal" the KLF, also known as the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, further known as the JAMMS......over and out...
Taking the piss is an english term meaning: taking the mickey, having a laugh at, fooling somebody. It probably comes from when urine was used in our lives.. there literally was a jug for collecting... Anyway hope that helps .
they need to make some new stuff making fun of the Illuminati artist like Kesha, Lady Gaga, Jay Z, Madonna, and all the other mindless music out there.

***** Thank you for saying so. Cheers!

Thank yo so much for a sensible, logical, and fucken smart comment. Cheers, mate.
Absolutely. It's just that people do not perceive it because it is not presented to them in a visual way. Cue Marshall McLuhan.
It's the best way to get a tax write off I've ever seen.

I liked there house style but there true masterpiece will always be Chill Out
Agreed 100% and the guys pigeonholing the KLF in this video probably don't even know it exists.
Agreed lad!
I love the KLF.
Have "The Manual" on my Kindle. Outside of a few adjustments required for technological advancements and availabilities, it holds up.

good point, it was theirs earnt and the did so
I wish more people would do it to be honest with you. Break the spell that anything good could ever come from money.
Most people, unfortunately, worship money. That’s all they see as success in life.
Dada, pure and simple.

K pop in Korea?

Bring me Edelweiss, baby!
KLF is better than Kyle minougue, in my opinion.
MADNESS!

I was part of the underground free dance party network, and all this was generated in South London, along with carter USM senser back to the planet
Why did I think the KLF was from detroit?
Is that Martika giving them Brit award??
🙂
Does that new plastic money burn? (I know £50s are still paper...I think?)
Make the Black Album already!
I'd like to see the entire program.
i think this was a segment from a TV show about the 80s. Or 90s? lol.
So luv this.....what is "taking the piss"?

DRAKULA DOLPHIN
A small bit if difference pete
Don't bore us, get to the chorus. Salient how-to-make-a-number-1 advice.
Today
If you don't understand the numerology behind the KLF, you don't _really_ get what they're about.
care to elaborate?
David dat elaboration tho...😐

Doesn't take much to work out the KLF have now left the building 4 ever! ;)
2:51 - "Wouldn't it be a great idea to spray the audience with pig's blood?" WAIT! DON'T DO IT! Carrie might be watching!
Mumustyle!
Yeh well that track does have all the cliches - don't know whether he read the Manual though!
Actually it was only about 40,000 pounds that got burned.
Wrong. They nailed that to a wooden board (Turner Art Prize spoof) 6 months before burning a million on the Island of Jura.
No difference between KLF and Kylie Minogue? They were great and she was sh**e, for one thing.
they need to make some new stuff making fun of the Illuminati artist like Kesha, Lady Gaga, Jay Z, Madonna, and all the other mindless music out there.
I think it's been burnt!
