The KLF really dropped a musical bomb with 3 A.M. Eternal. Everything about the track is so unique that even to this day, there is no song like it. From the synths, the drumloop, the composition, the chorus, everything about it made it wayyy ahead of it’s time and is actually timeless. The Timelords did their job perfectly.
With 3 AM, I'm pretty sure they heard "Snap - The Power" and decided to remix their 1988 Pure Trance track to be as similar as possible - the same rhythm, same rap style and the same song structure, down to the initial strange vocal sample. This is of course straight out of their own playbook, The Manual. And they were not alone - at the same time C&C Music Factory were doing their own "the power" carbon copy.
This was a big part of my early teenage years. KLF was very popular at my school. Fond memories of Doctor who, 3 am. Eternal, Justified and Ancient, and Last Train to Trancentral.
so glad I was born when I was..to be able to enjoy groups such as the KLF. These days this world has gone and taken itself so serious. Glad I am approaching middle age...wouldnt want to be a youngster these days.
I'm old now. But I danced like a demented jackhammer when these songs were new 'cos I was too young to know better. Pretty sure I can swing things today though, just let me get my headset on...
IMHO they trod a very fine line when it came to 'taking the piss', and not particularly successfully, at that. I think that it is disappointing that much of the media's focus tends to linger on their 'Timelords' era, hence dismissing them as some sort of comedy act trying to make fools of people. It's the great dilemma of public life; do I take myself very seriously and therefore provide would be satirists with an easy target, or do I show a sense of humour and carry myself in an almost self-depreciating, but lighthearted manner, and risk losing a substantial amount of my credibility? The fact remains that The KLF made some VERY good music; the 'Stadium House Trilogy' for a start. Their antics however, unfortunately took centre stage and somewhat detracted from that fact.
@@brettonwoods9856 Isn't the idea that that they made "very good" music by following a formula that they despised, the whole point. If you delete your back catalogue for nearly 30 years, I suspect that you were not meant to be taken serious in the first place. Plus America: What Time Is Love is clearly trolling those that eat that bombastic stadium shit...
@@RogueBoyScout So are you arguing that The KLF were in fact snobs defending an artistic status quo that despised popular music [I am including the rave scene in my definition of popular music]? Cauty moved on to The Orb. You can hear the similarity between The KLF and The Orb's music. Now, continuing your logic, would you argue that The Orb are not to be taken seriously either? Taking it all back a step; consider this: did The KLF get so caught up in their own antics that they became alienated from their own mission and ended up strengthening a scene that they hated? Ironic since they contributed towards the rave scene and inspired many successor acts, whether those acts specifically pay tribute to them [N-Trance, Scooter], or not [Prodigy].
Thankyou for putting this up I find it interesting which turns to wonder about how where you found it and then you seem amazing coz your like a music detective or sumink.
the KLF are the Justified Ancients of MU. If you understand then you have a certain higher conscience that we share as brother's and sister's. If you cannot and will not begin to understand any of this then you may have already fallen victim. We are the people and the time has come, Hail Discordia!! We are a peaceful, loving and caring civilization that live among you and i only hope for you to one day step into our skins and see what we see. This following list of comments are an indicator of our number, Number of our fallen family member's and those not yet enlightened to which i say and to all "We've got to teach and everything we learn will point to the fact that time is eternal" the KLF, also known as the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, further known as the JAMMS......over and out...
KLF radical and dynamic the sort of music and musical ideology that is sadly missing in the bland corporate of modern pop culture...anyone want to do something radical...P.O.P.
The only group I can think of that comes close to KLF is perhaps Sleaford Mods these days. Their antics are absolutely hilarious! Also, why does Bill Drummond back then look a little like Paul Rudd?
Yes. There are strange parallels with other things at that time which echo even now. The trilogy of The Illuminati for instance. That's a bloody weird book and theater production but there's so much in it that makes a lot of sense in 2023. First time I heard the Ancients of Mu Mu Land, something went off in my head and I've been searching since.
You waited a year for a response... It's either some Italo Disco or a Hi NRG track, the two often intertwine. Or what we call Proto house, early electronic music from Chicago & London that led into what became recognised as House. Sorry i can't nail the tune as its only a short snippet and i can't see a label imprint from that camera angle. Heh...still all a bit vague but i thought you deserved a reply. >places right fist on open left palm & bows

KLF the best ever . Just bloody brilliant
Right on!

Chill Out is a masterpiece and the their 12'inch singles were great.
This is the most punk act in music history. They gave the industry the ultimate middle finger. And they gave us some epic tracks along with that.

KLF then, now and forever
Come on KLF you got one more #1 record in you !!!
KLF was fucking great. loved everything about it including the ancients of Mu- Mu Land shit
The greatest band of all.
Because after all the success, they knew when to stop and how to stop.
Other than Artful Dodger.
"Doctor Woohoo... Doctor Who... Doctor Woohoo..." Epic lyrics.
The fact is that Bill and Jimmy just loved taking the piss. Even accepting the job with WEA fitted in with their ethos.

Wait...WHAT! I didn't know The KLF worked with S.A.W.
KLF ushered in the second PUNK revolution

Yes, some parallels.
The Method was the way and couple that with the Illuminatus Trilogy and you have a hit or many
Would love to know where they bought thee old Ford they are driving?
Very clever, talented awake dudes.

so KLF was a parody of SAW (Stock Aitken Waterman), nice.
They owe a lot to Robert Anton Wilson.
#23YEARS!! Any clues on the acid house tune at the end?
